Dear Valued Business Partner,
As we enter the fourth quarter of 2008, I am
proud to say we have the BEST business
partners in the transportation industry. So
far this year we have added 70 new Alliance
business partners to our Elite Fleet. As many
companies have slowed in growth, Alliance
continues to hit target goals of concentrated
controlled growth by selecting and qualifying only the best candidates who have the drive and determination to succeed. We are in
the process of adding additional business classes and other value
added services in the coming months. Over 300 new trucks are on
order for Alliance for 2009 as we replace older equipment and plan
for growth. By close of 2009 we plan to have approximately 700
business owners in our division.
Fuel Management without a doubt has been the single largest factor
in managing the profits of our daily business ventures on the Stevens
fleet and the Alliance Contractor side. Through many long hours
and strategic partnerships with Engine makers such as Caterpillar,
Eaton, Thermo king Tri-Pac APU’s, and others we put together the
most successful Fuel Management Education and Training program
in the industry. Many of you now understand the magnitude of efficient MPG, slowing down and operating your equipment in order
to maximize your profits. The “I BELIEVE” campaign, coupled with
fuel efficiency classes and Fuel Tips CD are getting rave reviews and
creating legions of BELIEVERS. We are always looking for ways to
protect your interest during challenging times and will continue this
track record of delivering excellence to our valued business partners.
Again, I am very proud of each and every one of our Alliance
partners and appreciate the hard work, drive and determination you
leaders provide daily that makes us the BEST in the industry. My

Solo Superstar
Hamed Amin Rad started
his driving career with
Stevens Transport in late
August 2007. He joined
Alliance in February
2008 and has been
persistent in his quest
to be #1. Since joining
Alliance, Hamed has
followed the Alliance
business plan to the letter and has netted an average of
.50 cents per mile consistently. He has taken home well
over a thousand dollars a week for every week he has
been in his Alliance truck.
Truck 7711 is one of the “slowest” trucks on the road but
still averages the same miles as our faster drivers. Loads
are still delivered on time. Drivers who say this can’t be
done should tell Hamed because he missed the “It Can’t
Be Done” class. Hamed does not let anything prevent
him from being one of the best and most successful solo
drivers with Alliance.
We are proud of his accomplishments and he proves that
success does not depend on how long you have been
driving a truck. Success is achieved by believing it can
be done and then making it happen!
I Believe

I remember when I was a company driver and met Alliance drivers
talking about their success. I could see the confidence in their eyes
but I made the mistake of thinking that I wasn’t ready and went in a
different direction.
As a counselor, I saw rookie and seasoned drivers of all ages and
walks of life busting out $1300 to $2000 or more a week. Yes, a
week! Same job...more money. What a dream come true! They heard
the positives and the negatives of being a lease operator and decided
for themselves to take the steps to financial freedom.
I discovered the owner of Stevens Transport designed Alliance for

When you compare leases, it’s sort of like jumping out of an
airplane. You worry about the risk jumping from 40,000 feet and I

Alliance Welcomes Jim Morris
A strong new member of the Alliance team is Jim Morris whose
knowledge and work ethic have promoted him to Alliance Service
Writer. Jim is a retired firefighter and paramedic who has served
Dallas County for 19 years.
Jim is a big hearted gentleman, an outstanding mechanic, and will
jump through hoops to help his drivers with their service needs.
We welcome Jim to the shop as our new Service Writer and newest
member of the “A-Team.”

“MPG Masters” Set New Standards
Many drivers, old and new, do not believe that 7.0 MPG is possible. Therefore, they do not make the effort to improve their fuel economy to that level. However, Alliance has living proof that not only 7.0 but
7.5 and higher MPG’s are possible every day! The entire Alliance fleet averages close to 7.0 MPG on a
regular basis because of a group of drivers who have mastered the higher MPG’s. These drivers achieved
their financial success by believing and mastering fuel economy techniques.
Emblazoned below are just a few of our many MPG Masters on the Alliance fleet:
You’ll see these drivers with their “I Believe” t-shirts and MPG rating pins on their
Alliance caps. When you see one of these MPG Masters on the yard or on the road
congratulate them and ask them how they do it! They will tell you,

Zapata Takes Over!
New Alliance Maintenance/Shop Liason Moves Into New Digs
Alliance is proud to have the exceptional knowledge and personal touch of Edward Zapata as your
maintenance and shop liason. He is now working
out of his new office in Shop Bay 1.
Edward has been with Stevens Transport for eight
years and is enjoying every minute of it. Edward’s
professional and friendly approach to finding solutions to maintenance and service related work has
been greatly appreciated by all Alliance drivers.
Edward says his goal is to “Be a leader in expediting our Alliance drivers in order to give them a
better experience while on the yard. Compared to
other industry lease programs I
have researched, Alliance provides the absolute best service
and cost effective maintenance
possible.”

Driver Faces Terrorist Attacks, Killer Hurricanes, and
Historical Floods To Drive With Stevens and Alliance
After recently completing his lease with Alliance, Luis Iribarren has
become our latest success story to make the transition to Owner Operator. But this story is about more than just making a natural move
to independence. It’s about survival and persistence; qualities that
contributed to the fulfillment of his dreams of financial freedom.
Before he became a successful business owner
with Stevens Transport, Luis Iribarren (#1963)
was working as a Passenger Manager in the
airlines industry in New Orleans, Louisiana. It
was a good job and he was reasonably content,
but things were about to take an unusual turn in
his life.
On September 11, 2001, as we all remember, our
lives were changed through the actions of a few
individuals. As a result of those events and the
turmoil that followed, Luis lost his management
position with the airlines and started working in
the air freight sector.
Things were pretty good in New Orleans for Luis
until another infamous event occurred that, once
again, changed his life forever. Hurricane Katrina and the devastating after-effects took away not only his job, but his home and all his
possessions. Luis says the building where he worked was completely destroyed and washed away in the storm. The only reminder
that a business had ever been there was a giant empty lot resembling
a soggy football field.
In addition to the loss of employment, Luis lost his home and all
his possessions. The three story building he lived in collapsed and
everything in it was completely lost.
Luis made his way to Dallas to take refuge and to work out his
future plans. Not certain where to go or where to turn, he decided to
put the CDL he had to use. Calling several trucking companies, he
finally decided on Stevens Transport because, among other influencing factors, the name of the recruiter he spoke with was Katrina
Spencer. When he heard that name, Luis said
it seemed like a sign this was the place to start
rebuilding.
He came to Stevens, entered the driver training program and was excited to begin this new
chapter in his life. When he saw the posters about
the Alliance program, he got inspired and decided
to investigate. He sat down with the Alliance
Recruiter and really liked what he heard.
Now just a little over two years later he has
completed his lease and has purchased his own
truck through Stevens Transport’s in-house driver
finance program.
The characteristics that helped him get through
the hardships he endured have positioned Luis for
success. When you think about little things we complain about daily,
consider all that Luis and others have faced and how they have risen
above the circumstances to achieve what others would not dare to
believe.
Congratulations to Luis Iribarren for becoming our latest Alliance driver to become his
own boss as an Owner Operator Contractor for
Stevens Transport Alliance Division.

With the growing number of fuel thefts
occurring over the road many Alliance
drivers have requested that we stock antitheft devices. The request has been met
and these anti-theft tubes are now available
on the yard.

I ask a lot of drivers why they run fast and they
say, “To get more miles per week.” But you have
to ask yourself….more miles than who? More
miles than a safer driver? More miles than a compliant driver? Most will say, “More miles than a
slower driver!” Then you must ask yourself the
logical question…”How do I honestly know I am
getting more miles than a slower driver?” What
statistics is this perception based on?
Reality shows that drivers who operate between
55-60 mph are achieving the same average miles
or higher than drivers who chase miles by puttin’
the pedal to the metal! Our industry is changing
and it’s not just about miles anymore. It’s about
how much profit you make per mile.
Stevens’ loads are designed to be safely delivered
at the average speed of 50 mph. Work a trip plan
based on this speed and you will still get your
loads delivered on time. You will be safer. You

Let me start out by giving a BIG “Congratulations” to all of you
who have completed your lease this year (or will by year end).
Never in the history of Alliance have we had so many lease
completions in a short period of time. As of August 31, we had
64 drivers complete their leases with another 36 to go before year
end. I take great personal pride in knowing that the majority of
you got started the same year that I joined the Alliance division
and now I am taking a picture with you as you hold your completion check!
Looking back, it seems like time has passed by quickly, and as
you come to realize, business ownership takes a lot more than
getting into the truck and driving. The dream is to make a good
living doing what you love most and it takes determination, persistence, and desire to seek ways to maximize your opportunities
and your profits at all times – even when you have to sit!
The lease completion is more than just fulfilling your obligation
to a contract. You are now recognized as having a level of mastery of transportation and the determination to succeed at everything you do. You belong to a very special group of individuals
who have managed to make the necessary changes to become true
business owners!
Your success is what makes all of us proud to be a part of this
program and one of the reasons that I look forward to coming to

surcharge is adjusted when the National Average price changes.
Combine the Fuel Surcharge protection with your great MPGs and
you’ve got the recipe for success!
The Alliance fuel surcharge is designed that with a minimum 6.0
MPG you never have to pay more than $1.25 per gallon regardless
of the National fuel prices! When you run more efficiently you are
able to pay even less! Operating up to a 7.0 MPG from a 6.0 MPG
can basically double your profit in Alliance!

High Tech Fuel Tools
Continued outstanding performance from our Independent Contractors has allowed many to improve their fuel economy through excellent driving techniques.
New technology has also contributed to these improvements in
performance. Some of these technological advances includes APU’s
and coming soon, SensorTRACS.
In our ongoing quest to provide the best tools for our contractors,
several new assets have been researched and tested. Recently
completed was extensive testing of SensorTRACS; a program
manufactured by Qualcomm. SensorTRACS connects directly to
the truck’s ECM and relays driving
patterns and habits. This is designed
to track, monitor, and transmit live
data that relays a truck’s speed, idle
time, RPM’s, and MPG’s.
These tools are provided to help
you reach your goals through increased profits.
