KRAEMER MIDDLE SCHOOL
Kraemer Middle School KRAEMER MIDDLE SCHOOL PLACENTIA YORBA LINDA SCHOOL DISTRICT September 4, 2012 PERSEVERANCE ALWAYS WINS Dear Students, Parents & Guardians: Welcome to seventh grade at Kraemer! This will be a year of a lot of growth and changes, so be prepared: students will need a lot of help and guidance. To help your student be successful at Kraemer and in my social studies class, there are a few things you should know. In social studies this year we will study world civilizations of the middle ages. This will build on last year’s study of ancient world civilizations. If you would like to know more about the content standards for 7th grade Social Science, you can find them on the California Department of Education’s website at http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/documents/histsocscistnd.pdf I assign minimal homework. Students have a weekly geography test to study for each Friday, and occasionally they will have classwork to complete at home. Assignments must be turned in the day they are due. Late work will be accepted at half credit for one week only. Expect a high level of performance from your child in social studies. Map quizzes are the only memorization tests I give, and students get a practice quiz with all the answers every Monday to use for study throughout the week. Students use notes on all of their quizzes, and I guide them through making a Cheat Sheet for big unit tests. I highly recommend that you monitor your child’s attendance and grades using PYLUSD’s Aeries program. You will soon receive your password in the mail, along with instructions if you have not used Aeries before. This is a terrific tool to help you stay informed! To access my website, please begin at the school website: www.kraemerms.org. Look to the left side where it says “Teachers and Administration” and click on that link. You will see a list of teacher names and their websites. Mine is listed as Watson, Jacqueline. Once at my website, you can find the documents or information you need by looking in the “Web Files” folder, where information is organized by the units of study. All worksheets, maps, lecture notes, and handouts are there. Also, I post to this website daily so that you can monitor what we are doing in class and what the homework is, if any. I am available to meet with and assist students and parents during my conference period (first period), and after school on Mondays through Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:00. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at extension 20306 or by email at: jwatson@pylusd.org. I look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night on Tuesday, October 2!
