Dear Hoffman Family,
Once again it is incredibly hard for me to believe that the 2014-2015 school year
is coming to a rapid close. How much we have all learned and grown in so many
positively rewarding ways! The success and achievements of your child are largely
the result of a tremendous teaching staff and wonderful parent community working
TOGETHER.
It is also together that we strive to create a community of learners which model
and value personalization, flexibility, self-discipline, academic achievement, individual
dignity, democratic procedures, and an open outlook to change and the future. Your
CAN-DO attitudes have greatly helped to create this climate, which makes Hoffman
School such a special place for kids………..and their parents.
A special thank you must be extended to our entire PTA under the fine leadership
of Mary Frese. This group’s exemplary efforts really make a difference for your
children. We couldn’t do it without you.
I’m looking forward to seeing all of you on Thursday, August 13 from 9:30-11:30am
or 5:00-6:30pm. At this time, you will be receiving your child’s class placement, bus
route, and lunch card information. Please put this date on your calendar now, as well
as the first day of the 2015-2016 school year which is Tuesday, August 25 from
7:55am – 2:30pm.
Again, my sincere thanks to our students, teachers, parents, and staff for a
wonderfully productive school year and for helping to make Hoffman the best school
that it can be!
Best wishes for a happy, healthy and safe summer!
Sincerely,
Mark Walther
Principal

HELPFUL HINTS ABOUT CLOTHING
WORN BY OUR STUDENTS
As the weather continues to be warmer, students will want to wear shorts and cooler clothes.
The following guidelines have been shared with your child and serves as a standard so that
Hoffman School continues to be a place where learning can occur with the least amount of
distractions. We politely ask you to support these guidelines in your conversations at home:
1. Shorts – no cutoffs or torn or ripped clothing. When
students are standing up with their arms down at their
side, shorts should be longer than their fingertips.
2. Tank tops – really should not be worn. If they are worn,
there should be a shirt worn under or over it.
3. No clothing which exposes your midriff.
4. No hats may be worn inside school.
5. Your clothing must not distract you or others from the
learning process. Clothing with alcoholic, smoking, drugrelated, vulgar, or violent expressions/messages/pictures will
not be tolerated. Students wearing clothes of this nature will
contact their parent with Mr. Walther to bring an alternative
article of clothing to school.
6. Given the age group of our children, wearing make-up in
school is not appropriate. A child wearing make-up will
be asked to wash his/her face. (This also includes
temporary hair colorings).
7. No toys may be brought to school.
8. No flip-flops may be worn at school.
Thank you for your continued adherence to these standards.

RECORDERS! RECORDERS! RECORDERS!
Third and fourth grade students at Hoffman School played recorder this year as a tool to help them learn to
read and perform music. The recorder helps our students learn note names and pitches kinesthetically (with
movement), and allows all of our students the opportunity to learn to play an instrument as they prepare to
pick band and orchestra instruments in future years.
Your child will play recorder next year as well. At the end of this school year, your child will bring their
recorder and recorder book home. Please be aware that the recorder and recorder book need to be
brought back to school at the beginning of next school year. If the recorder is lost or broken, a new
recorder will need to be purchased.
Students can use their recorder book over the summer to practice or learn new songs. In addition, here are
two great websites if students are interested in learning some recorder songs on their own:
http://www.musick8.com/rkdojo/rkchart.php
http://www.joytunes.com/express.php?mode=reg
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I hope many of you hear some wonderful
recorder playing over the summer!
