On the move?
At the start of each year, we know many
Australian Defence Force members are posted
to new locations around the country. And if that
means it’s now time for a new home, Defcredit
has a great range of really competitive Defence
Home Ownership Assistance Scheme (DHOAS)
loan products to suit your needs.
Ranging from DHOAS loans with an extra low
rate in the first year, like the DHOAS Advantage
through to the new fully featured DHOAS Saver,
which offers a low rate for the life of the loan.
Check out the DHOAS article on page 5 for
more information about the Defcredit DHOAS
loan range.

Over the course of the new year, you’ll start
noticing changes like our new name Defence
Bank appearing at branches. Otherwise it will
be ‘business as usual’ apart from the new
products and extra services we’re developing
specifically to meet our members’ needs.
WV
Becoming a bank also gives us the ability to
provide even more products and enhanced
services to our members and we will continue
to provide competitive fees for our members.
RX
Being a bank lets us increase our competitiveness
and will enable us to take advantage of growth
opportunities and become better at what we do.
At the same time, because we remain a memberowned bank, we will continue to operate to
benefit our members.
Providing even more award winning products for
our members, Defcredit’s True Blue Credit Card,
Car Loans and Personal Loans carry a CANSTAR
CANNEX 5 Star Rating. Which means you get
value, competitive rates and more.

Choose a DHOAS Loan to suit your needs
Make the most of the DHOAS scheme through
one of Defcredit’s DHOAS home loan options.
We offer a suite of different DHOAS home
loan products to suit all ADF members needs
and that will help you walk through the door
of a new home sooner.
Start with the DHOAS Saver. It’s a fully featured
loan with a super low interest rate for the life of
the loan. With its low rate and no monthly fees,
the DHOAS Saver is still feature packed, offering
you both savings and flexibility. There’s unlimited
free redraw in branch and online, so you can
access extra funds should you need them. Take
advantage of repayment options that suit you and
make unlimited additional payments. If you’re
ahead on your loan, you can even take a repayment
holiday for up to six months. We’ve even included
a Mortgage offset facility on variable loans so you
can save even more. Don’t forget the DHOAS Saver
is only available for a limited time so you’ll need to
hurry to get the benefits of this great product.
If you’re after a loan that gives you a super low
rate to start with, you might want to consider
our DHOAS Low Start Loan. This provides
members with a low fixed rate, locked in
for the first 12 months. So you can enjoy the
peace of mind that your interest rate won’t increase
during the introductory period. The DHOAS Low
Start Loan is ideal for those entering the property
market together with no application, monthly or
annual fees, so you can get your first home sooner.
Or, you may want to consider our DHOAS
Advantage Loan. Suitable for purchasing or
refinancing both new and existing homes, it
provides more flexibility by giving you the choice
of variable or fixed rates plus no annual or monthly
fees. And it comes with unlimited redraw so you
can secure extra money if something unexpected
comes your way.
Building your dream home? The DHOAS Construction
Advantage Loan might be helpful because of its
interest only period during your home’s construction
phase. Save while your new home is being built and
own your new home sooner.

We’ve got your back
Trucking along with the Sallyman
Sallyman trucks have a long and proud
history of supporting Defence. It’s been
going since the Boer War. The Salvation
Army Red Shield Defence Services staff
operate the trucks that provide food and
drink to Australian Defence Force members.
The Sallyman trucks accompany ADF members on
training exercises within Australia and on overseas
deployments. They’re a welcome sight for ADF
personnel, who often need to refuel during
challenging exercises or mission conditions.
Defcredit understands the importance of this
service and as part of our ongoing
commitment to the ADF
community, we’re proud to
support the Sallyman trucks
so this vital part of history can
carry on into the future.

Walk to HMAS Stirling
National treasure at HMAS Cerberus Open Day
Kicking off the Defcredit K-Series
Annual Walk to Work Day was recently held at
HMAS Stirling. Defcredit was a proud supporter
of the event which attracted over 1,500 people
who left their cars at home and strode their way
into their workplaces. It was held in conjunction
with The Causeway Classic running event at
Garden Island. A Family Day followed the event
as a way of saying thanks to the Navy families
for their ongoing support and dedication.
HMAS Cerberus, the Navy’s premier training
base recently held its Annual Open Day.
The original Defcredit K-Series has been held in
March every year, but due to its growing popularity,
a second series has been added, and a November
series was launched. With over 300 competitors
from the Army, Navy and Air Force competing
in Rugby League, Golf and a new Multi Sport
Endurance Event, the day was a huge success.
The Multi Sport Endurance Event saw both
individuals and teams complete a gruelling run,
swim and mountain bike course. With Defcredit
proudly supporting the K-Series, Kapooka is fast
becoming the home of ADF sport, with competitors
already gearing up for the next series on the 10th
and 17th March 2012.
Over 6,500 people flocked from Victoria and
neighbouring states to visit the multi-hectare
facility in Western Port Bay. Defcredit was there
amongst the thousands of community members
and ran its popular ‘treasure chest’. There were
loads of fantastic prizes on offer for those who
were lucky enough to have the winning keys.
Staying with the community, Defcredit were
also proud sponsors of the Open Day Netball
Carnival and proudly presented cheques to
the winning teams.

It’s a small world
Name: Wendy, Branch Manager
Defcredit Branch: East Sale, VIC
Defcredit believe that it’s important to give back to the Defence community who have supported us and
this is a belief that is shared by our staff, many of whom volunteer for Defence causes outside of their
job. Wendy from our East Sale branch is one of them.
“I have worked for Defcredit for just over two years and in that time have got to know the members on base
and enjoy being a confidant to them. This enables them to be able to have a joke when they feel like it but
also know they will get friendly, efficient financial advice when they visit the branch.
I volunteer at the Roulette Cinema on base and am an honorary member of the Sergeant’s Mess. I have a lot
of respect for the members and know that they are in a position where they may be required to defend the
country at anytime. As they are willing to make this sacrifice, I try to help them to the best of my ability with
what I do.
Everyday sees new challenges, but the experiences I’ve had with all the members have been positive and
I enjoy being able to serve our members here at East Sale.”
WIN! Call of Duty: Modern
Warfare 3 could be yours
Email us the craziest thing you would do to score

our readers to take pictures of their Camo Pigs in interesting locations.

From the board
Mark Richards,
Chairman
Welcome to this Summer issue of Dispatch.
Many members will be in the middle of the
festive season and perhaps enjoying a long
break. Others will be hard at work. Defcredit
members, and their ADF colleagues, currently
on active service are particularly in our
thoughts at this time of year.
We’re here to help
If you have any questions about anything covered in this
brochure please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

Recently, Callum Brown and Craig Madden stepped
down from their roles as Chairman and Deputy
Chairman respectively due to service commitments.
I am pleased to take over as Chairman and welcome
Paul Mulraney to his new role as Deputy Chairman.
Paul and I thank Callum and Craig for their stewardship
of Defcredit over the past year. We look forward to
building on that good work and serving members
and the Defence Community in the period ahead.
The year ended on a high note with the overwhelming
support from you, the members, for a change in
name from Defcredit to Defence Bank. I thank you
for that support, which I am confident will provide
the basis for continued growth of the organisation
and enhance our value to members.
The New Year is of course a traditional time to
reflect on achievements and to map out your
goals for the future. In terms of your financial
goals, the article on page 4 provides some ideas
to help crystallise your thinking.
If you’re in the market for a new home loan this
year, consider our range of DHOAS home loans. It’s
a great way for ADF members to buy or build a new
home with competitive interest rates, in addition to
the broader benefits of the DHOAS scheme. If you’re
not eligible for DHOAS, consider our wider range of
home loans at competitive rates.
As always, we’re proud to be part of the Defence
Community. This month’s Dispatch describes a few
of the events we have recently supported as well
as our support of The Salvation Army Red Shield
Defence Services. As one who has appreciated the
Sallyman in field, I am particularly glad to be able
to support their great work.
Best Wishes,
Mark Richards
