Quick Times is the official publication of the Lone Star
Performance Buick Club (Chapter of the GS Club of America).

Well here we are 2013 and I’m back at the helm!
Did you miss me? LoL It is good to be back and I
hope we can have a good year.
There are already some things in the works, some
are already listed in this newsletter and some we
are still working on so stay tuned. We would love
to have your input at the club meeting coming up
on March 9th at Bodacious BBQ.
My apologies to our members for not getting a NL
out to you the 2nd half of last year, these were out
of my control.
Hello fellow Buick nuts! Another season is
upon us so hopefully all of the winter projects
on vehicles are getting wrapped up and the cars
are all ready for another season. We have our
first meeting scheduled for early March so be
sure to make it out to that to get the lowdown
on all of the club events planned for this year as
well as getting to hang out with the great people
in our club. Our Redline points race will continue and hopefully we’ll see more and more of
you there each month as well. There was some
great racing last year and I’m sure we’ll keep
that going this season as well. Also Hot Rod
Power Tour starts in Arlington this June! It
sounds like we’ve already got a nice little crew
(myself included) who are long hauling, but we
should try to have a nice showing as a club at
the first event and welcome Hot Rod to Texas!
We will have more in store for the future so be
sure to make the first club meeting in March to
find out more! See you all soon! Mike M.

2013 Redline Race Series Rules
$10.00 (paid to LSPBC) to bracket race, you must be a current LSPBC member to enter and your vehicle must be
Buick or Buick powered in order to be eligible for Buick points. Vehicles that are Non Buick or Non Buick powered
will be eligible for Non Buick points (see Points below) Memberships and renewals are available on location.
1. Street cars only*, No delay boxes, and No throttle stops are allowed.
2. Any tire is ok. DO NOT burnout past the starting line. This will result in an automatic disqualification.
3. You may race any brand/model of car you want and win money at the monthly races and be eligible for the point
series.
4. You must be a paid club member to run brackets. Club dues are $25 annually.
5. The monthly payouts are pending car count. Therefore, more cars = a higher payout. Payouts are for 1st, 2nd &
3rd places.
All time trials will be run out of lane 4 with one exception. If you are running street tires and get in line early,
6:30pm, please line up in lane 3 for your first pass. Redline officials like to run cars with slicks for the first 10-15
pairings from lane 4. We do not want to block lane 4 with street tire cars early. All time trials will be out of lane 4 after 7pm for LSPBC racers.
2013 Rule Additions:
1. All LSPBC racers are required to meet in the pits with the race director at 8:30pm to pay their entry fee and
draw for positions. Drawing order will determine your position on the standard "Sportsman Ladder" rather than
your qualifying time. Do not be late or you will be left out!*
2. The ladder will be set up prior to 9:00pm to determine the pairings or bye run if applicable.
3. The higher seeded racer for each pairing will have lane choice.
4. All eliminations will be out of lanes 5 and 6 and start at 9pm sharp.
5. Breaking or not showing will result in an automatic loss and a win for your opponent. You must stage and break
the starting line beams under your vehicle's own power to receive credit.
6. Redline has requested that the racers to be ready to run in 5 minutes from when they call us to the lanes.
Therefore, know who your opponent for the next round is as soon as possible.
Buick or Buick Powered Points:
10 points are earned for each round in which you make a qualified run.
5 bonus points will awarded to the event winner.
Non-Buick or Non-Buick Powered Points:
9 points are earned for each round in which you will make a qualified run.
4 bonus points will be awarded to the event winner.
All points are assigned to the driver:
This will allow a driver to cumulatively earn either Buick or Non Buick points at each event based on the vehicle registered. A driver will not be eligible for both Buick and Non-Buick points at the same race event.
The top three season points leaders will be awarded at the year end LSPBC Christmas party. ($$$ TBD)

“Welcome to the Texas Muscle Car Club Challenge. The TMCCC is the largest club against club racing
series in the country and possibly the world. It was founded by a group of muscle car owners that liked to
race their cars but didn't want to race in a weekly bracket series. Soon after the first few events, more
clubs in the area started showing interest and before you knew it, the series had grown into 9 events covering most of north Texas and Oklahoma. With car counts exceeding 200 at many of the races, we have
proven that muscle cars are here to stay.”
“Every club races for points to see who are the true champions in the muscle car world and a driver reward program tracks individual drivers points to see who is the best in each class. Each year there is a
rewards banquet where the top clubs and drivers are honored and presented with very nice trophies and
prizes. The overall points champion also receives free entry to all of the next years races.“

Import Face Off Deep Six Class
Another great time was had by all at the Import Face off in Ennis back in the Fall of 2012, but Mother nature had
other ideas. After a lengthy wait early in the morning the rain finally stopped and the track personnel got the track
dry and we finally got some time trials in. I think everyone in our group got their two time trials before the rains
came again. It was on and off for awhile, the IFO people did there best to get the event in but it just wasn’t to be
and the race was cancelled due to the weather.
We are reset for Sunday April 10th 2013 and later in the year on Nov. 10th 2013. Keep in mind this event is open
to all LSPBC members with any type of vehicle. It is also open to non LSPBC members with any type of V6
powered vehicle. This 100% payout of our race fees so the more cars we have the bigger the payout!

This was in conjunction with the N TX chapter of the BCA, our club had been invited to bring
our Buick's out for display at the dealership. The dealership was having some type of Buick promotion that weekend and wanted some older Buick's to display for everyone to see. We had several LSPBC members showing their cars. We had everything from a ‘29 Buick roadster to a ‘90’s
Reatta. A couple of very nice convertibles and a few TR’s sprinkled in. I was waiting for someone
to ask why all of the Monte Carlo’s at a Buick dealership? lol
We had 15-20 cars from both clubs.

Hot Rod Power Tour 2012

Hello club members,
This year’s Hot Rod Power Tour started out in Detroit Mi and ended up in Arlington TX. Some of the LSPBC members were fortunate enough to join in on the fun for this year and man was it fun! We joined up with the tour in Miami OK and traveled the rest of the route with them. In attendance were David and Debbie Ellis, David Newton,
Phillip Madden, Ralph Haber, Rob and Tammy Downey, and myself and son Samson Segovia. Along the way, we
met up with Buick friends from Houston, Austin, and Missouri who caravanned with us at different points of the tour.
The fun started when we met up at Darryl Starbird’s National Rod& Custom Car Hall of Fame Museum close to our
hotel in Grove OK. We enjoyed seeing over 50 exotic custom built vehicles designed and built by this man. He has
some very cool and amazing rides in his collection. Darryl also entertained us, which I thought was awesome, by
answering our questions and taking some pics with some of us. He is truly a talented genius sent down from the car
gods. We all really appreciated the time he spent with us.

The next adventure was getting into the Buffalo Run Casino parking facility where everyone was arriving from
Madison IL. The streets and roads were congested with so much traffic which caused delays as expected. Once there
you could see the parking lot was packed with Hot Rod gear heads with their beautiful rides and the area off to the
side with the wonderful display of vender’s row with nothing but the best vendors and their welcoming displays.
Truly awesome! It was hot but the unbelievable site compensated for that. We were in awe with pure joy of Hot Rod
fumes around us. The crowds were big and enthused about being there. We checked in with Hot Rod and proceeded
to join the fun while mingling for a while. Later that afternoon we ended our night in the Miami Ok stop by getting
all of the Club cars together for pics at an old vintage gas station on a section of the historic route 66, very nostalgic.
It was really nice to see the old gas station renovated to look like it did years ago but it was even nicer having our
Turbo cars there to make the picture that much nicer.

The next morning at 6:15am the hotel guests received an
unexpected wakeup call courtesy of one Fast 86 Grand National leaving about an 80ft burnout. A group of us were
all ready to go to breakfast and as we were leaving all you
could see was a cloud of white smoke with the guests in
the background opening up their curtains and seeing the
mayhem outside in the parking lot. The designated breakfast spot was Clanton’s Café which has been featured on
the TV hit show “Diners Drive-ins and Dives. We took
route 66 into Vinita, OK. early that morning and enjoyed
the scenery while cruising with our windows down taking
in that fresh cool air and smelling the morning dusk. After
breakfast we went and met up with rest of gang and proceeded to our next destination. Along the way we pulled
over for about 45minutes and pulled out our lawn chairs and watched the Hot Rod Mania take the same route into
Stillwater. A convoy of nothing but exotic and cool vehicles making their way to the next party or car show.

This particular leg of the tour was the most beautiful stretch of the whole HRPT for 2012. At times we would be
cruising down winding roads with lots of green trees along the path. A river flowed on one side of us and at one
point we were cruising through some canyons that at times looked like they were above you or over your heads. It
definitely was a breath taking site and made for great pics. We stopped for awhile at a park and took more Grand National pics while admiring the scenery and breathing in the fresh clean air.

We continued on towards Stillwater on our three or four hour cruise while checking out all the Hot Rods in front,
behind, at restaurants, gas stations, stores, and anywhere they were stopping along the route. The LSPBC group decided to pull over and eat lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings and again lots of nice rides in the parking lot. We caught ourselves gawking at a couple of clean Super Birds and checking out how big those wings really are on the back of
those cars.
We finally made it into Stillwater and were routed to the OSU campgrounds where once again. Hot Rod mayhem
everywhere! It was hard to get around but we managed to park and walk and check out more classic and cool cars
before heading up to our hotel for the night. The third day and our final day we were on our last stretch of the HRPT
heading Arlington TX bound. We took the scenic route into Paul’s Valley were Covercraft had a hospitality stop.
They fed us and let us tour their facility giving us a break from the road. We really enjoyed the setup they welcomed
us with. It was a class act of Covercraft to go to the extreme for us hot rodder gearheads…….well appreciated.

Later on that day we made it into our last stop which was located at Quick Trip Park (Lone Star Park). It was jam
packed and everyone was having a good time. One of our members, Phillip Madden was pulled over as he was driving in and asked if he would like to join in on a burnout contest sponsored by Royal Purple. He was thrilled at the
event and was honored to represent with a turbo Buick. He did well and Royal Purple threw in $100 gift certificate
and a case of the Royal Purple for his hard work. In Arlington I overheard some of the tour staff stating that this year
the tour had over 5000 hot rods in attendance and somewhere in the area of 15 to 20 thousand people. They said it
was getting bigger and better every year.
Our time on the tour was great, however we did have a few hic ups along the way which started with David Ellis
breaking down first in Miami with a busted up idler pulley on his WE4, fixed it within an hour once we found the
part. On the second day we had to pull over because Phillip Madden’s gray T(Old Gray) was smoking. His powermaster system was malfunctioning. We drained some of the oil out of the reservoir and he was ready to go. We came
up with the conclusion that his brake system was about to fail but he never had any issues out of it after that. Fixed
within an hour.........held up for the burnout contest On the third day, I (Vic) lost a chunk out of my front left tire on
my D84 while taking a turn faster than I should have. My tires have lots of thread on them and still looked new but
are somewhat old and believe dry rot along with speed caused the chunk to fly off. I limped to the nearest tire store
and bought a used one to get me home where I had new ones waiting on me. It took about an hour and half to get me
on the road again. Thanks to Ralph and Rob for hanging out with me during my turmoil. All in all, the cruise from
Miami Ok to Arlington TX was a memorable and awesome experience and I would recommend it to the ones who
have never done it. It was a blast and we had tons of fun and laughter along the way. Going Fast with Class is what
the LSBPC is about and this road trip just makes for good times. I know my son Samson and I are ready to do it
