Early Release Friday Thi - Algonquin Lakes Elementary School
Dear Algonquin Lakes Elementary Family, Thank you for a great turnout this week at our Fall Open House! Early Release Friday This Friday will mark the first of our early releases. All students will be released at 12:00, lunch will be provided to all prior to dismissal. After students are released, our professional learning teams will work on teaching and learning initiatives to continue to provide our students with the very best in their education! Fire Drill Notification We want to notify you that today, September 2nd, our school conducted a “Fire/Evacuation Drill”. This drill is a practice to simulate taking actions to protect students and staff during an evacuation event that may occur on the school campus. The drill is part of the District 300 School Emergency and Crisis Response Plan. The school district works closely with local police and fire departments in their response to our schools during times of crisis. Local first responders participate in these practice drills throughout the school year. We want to bring this to your attention to keep you aware of our commitment to protect your child and to alert you to this safety drill. As a parent, your student may want to share their experience with you. That experience is an opportunity for you to reassure your child that the drill was a practice to keep them safe and to reinforce with them that the teacher is trained how to protect them and the importance for your child to always follow the safety directions of the teacher. September is National Library Card Month!! Your Public Library is a great place to go to find a huge selection of books, movies, games and other fun activities and programs. Mrs. Allmandinger and Mrs. Masching would like to invite all of our students and staff to bring in their public library cards to SHOW them in honor of National Public Library card month. Everyone can bring in their card any day in September for a free special National Library card month pencil. The class that brings in the most library cards before September 30th will earn a recognition party. If you have any questions, please stop by or call the office at 847 532-7500 or contact me by e-mail at christopher.columbaro@d300.org Sincerely, Chris Columbaro INSTRUMENTAL ENROLLMENT All fifth grade students interested in joining band or orchestra must register at the time listed below in order to be part of the Instrumental Program for the 2015-2016 School Year. AT ALGONQUIN LAKES ELEMENTARY FOR 5TH GRADE STUDENTS FROM ALGONQUIN LAKES and EASTVIEW Map on back to Algonquin Lakes Elementary School The Fall Box Top Contest is Here!! Hello Kids and Parents and welcome back!! For those new to the school: One of our easy ways to earn money for our school is to submit our clipped box tops to Box Tops For Education. They in turn send us two checks per year. Last year we earned almost $1500 for our school this way. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents, so that is a lot of box tops! Last year’s fall contest was a big one, earning us around $1200. Help us beat last year’s earnings!! Hopefully You’ve Been Clipping Away those Box Tops and building a nice collection over the summer! Keep on Clipping!! Now’s the time to turn them in and earn money for our school! Each class will compete to see who can submit the most box tops. The classroom who submits the most will get and will keep Mr. Top Box in their classroom until the Spring contest! We’ll keep kids and teachers updated with the progress ! Watch for Box tops on many popular products you are already buying. Then, just clip them and submit them to your teacher. Remember to put them in and envelope or Ziploc bag with your teacher’s name clearly written. Submit box tops until October 23rd. You can make multiple submissions. ***Remember to label the envelopes or bag with your teacher’s name clearly written ALES Lion Pride Family FUNdraiser Thank you to all those that supported the ALES Family Fundraiser!! Even though death, divorce/separation, moving often, or loss appears to be grown-up problems, they have profound effect on the children touched by these experiences. If a parent dies or a divorce occurs, not only do the parents grieve, the children do also. Because of their age and short life experiences, children may find it extremely difficult to verbalize their feelings of grief. If your child is struggling with the issues of being part of a single-parent family, a stepfamily, or coping with the death of a significant family member or friend, or has moved frequently, this can be an opportunity for him/her to share feelings with others of similar loss experiences. Rainbows trained staff at Algonquin Lake Elementary will assist your child in the healing process. What? A peer support program for children who are struggling with a significant loss in their lives by death, divorce, or another painful transition. Why? To provide children with an opportunity to meet new friends who have shared similar experiences; to have trained, caring staff to be present for the children while they sort through and understand their grief; and to help them come to a healthy acceptance of what has happened in their family. When & where? During the day, at school, 12 sessions for 30 minutes each session, for children in 1st through 5th grade. How? If your child would benefit from such a program, please fill out the form below and return to Patricia Sage, Rainbows Coordinator at Algonquin Lakes on or before Friday, September 11, 2015.
