Main beneficiary of this project are the families and newborn infants in the South-Eastern area of Romania, for which the intensive care unit in Constanta is the only medical unit to provide healthcare. October 1, 2015 Recently, the hospitals in Tulcea and Medgidia have announced closing their pediatric and neonatology department, and transferring all children having medical conditions to the hospital in Constanta. Tulcea and Constanta counties are entirely serviced by the Neonatology Intensive Care Unit in Constanta. In addition, severe cases from Braila, Ialomita and Calarasi are referred to Constanta Hospital. From the total case of 3.300 child births recorded in Constanta in 2014, 25% are represented by infants requiring intensive medical care. A second category of beneficiary is the MDs and medical personnel that will be trained in neonatal intensive medical care. 3. Make it your Gift! 2014 in figures: FOCUS on health In February 2014, “Daruieste Aripi” finalized a project entirely realized with the support of business community in Constanta –FOCUS Day-Care Medical Center, the only medical center focused on the diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and support of children with oncologichematologic and rheumatologic conditions in south-eastern Romania. Over 300 children with oncologic-hematologic and rheumatologic conditions on the records of FOCUS Medical Centre 14 new cases of children with cancer were diagnosed in 2014 15 children are evaluated, treated, monitored don a daily basis within FOCUS Medical Centre 1 MD supra-specialization in – pediatric oncology, 2 medical assistants, 1 phycologist 3 resident MDs 30 active volunteers 10 events dedicated to children with cancer, that are on the records of FOCUS Medical Centre 250 children participating in Creative Workshops 150 children that took part in celebrating Children’s Day on 1st of June 270 families supported within FOCUS Medical Centre The “Daruieste Aripi” association has created a project called “10 eroi la Disneyland” (10 Heroes in Disneyland), in order to help sick children and offer them trips to Disneyland Paris. Everything free for the children Every year, groups of 10 child-heroes who are fighting cancer will go to a magical land, away from all the suffering, and enjoy 4 days of play together with other heroes: the characters of the Disney movies. For the children who have been diagnosed with cancer, participating in such a project means: o Mental comfort. When fighting cancer, mental support can sometimes be even more important than the treatment itself. o Equality. Sick children have the right to equal chances and treatment, without any discrimination. o Reintegration. After being hospitalized and isolated for long periods of time, the kids need to feel accepted and know that they can enjoy being children again. October 1, 2015 The first trip of this project has taken place between September 14-17th, 2015 and the 10 children-heros enjoyed a wonderfull experience at Disneyland, for most of them this being their biggest dream. The children are registered with Institutul Oncologic Bucuresti and have been accompanied by 4 volunteers, one of them being their current onco-pediatric doctor.
