As students begin the new academic term, eager to return to the classroom and reunite with school friends they have not seen during the break, they remember September's theme of Thankfulness. To be thankful is to express gratitude for the things in our life that we often take for granted. So let us show thanks for the education that we receive from MCCS and the teachers who impact our lives. Some of the events that MCCS hosted last month were certainly worthy of thanks. For example, a grand Teacher's Day celebration, the cultural event ATHITI 2015 that was co-hosted by the ROTARY club of Chennai, and a weekend visit to the US Mela that encouraged higher secondary students to learn more about completing their higher studies abroad. You can read about all of these events, and more, in this issue. “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom.” As we begin the new term, October’s theme of honesty should guide us toward a semester of wisdom, good marks, and sincerity. -Cambuzz Editorial Team Teachers' Day “A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instill a love of learning.” With this month's virtue of thankfulness in mind, the MCCS Teachers’ Day celebration on September 4 gave students the opportunity to show gratitude for all of their hard-working and dedicated teachers. It was a joyous occasion filled with cake, cards, and confetti. The day began with a special school assembly that reminded students of the important role that teachers play in their lives. Jason Sir and Malathy Ma'am were interviewed by students and shared some wisdom and advice for the campus community. Then students walked to their classrooms to begin the celebrations. They decorated the classrooms, brought special cakes and treats, and showered their teachers with affection, praise, and gifts. Although the celebration was made sweet by cakes and chocolates, love and gratitude were the sweetest treats of the day. The celebrations came to a close with games for teachers such as dumb charades and volleyball coordinated by XII Standard students. This day reminded students that teachers should not just be thanked and respected on holidays, but every day of the year. -Sanathoi Irom, XII-D ATHITI 2015 ATHITI, a spectacular inter school talent competition hosted by the ROTARY Club of Chennai and the MCCS Interact Club, was held on campus on August 29, 2015. This program brought more than 800 students from 36 schools together to participate in events such as Quiz, Essay Writing in French, Oratorical in Tamil, Hindi, and English, Western dance, traditional dance, and more. AHM Mr. Parthiban Prasad gave the introductory prayer, which was followed by the welcome address given by Athiti 2015 Coordinator Mrs. Sheela Moses. Mr. C. Muthusamy, District Interact Chairman for RI District 3230, was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural function in the morning, while Mr. K.R.S.R Krishna, Vice President and Director of Petrotac Engineering Services, was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function in the afternoon. At the conclusion of the event, winners were awarded prizes and honored at the valedictory function in the evening. -Kumaran Prabu, IX-S IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO BE A WINNER Sometimes, when we find ourselves amidst life’s toughest moments, we tend to sit back and brood over our failures and defeats. But I say it's never too late to begin anew with God by your side. I quote what D. L. Moody, the great American evangelist and publisher wrote: Moses spent 40 years in the King’s palace thinking he was somebody great. Then he lived forty years in the wilderness finding out that without God he was nobody. Finally, he spent the next forty years discovering how a nobody with God can become somebody. When you are with Christ and close to Jesus, your perspective determines your attitude. You should take a moment to ask yourself: what am I focusing on? My problems or the promise of God? Your answer to this question will set the course for your life. That is why it is important to adhere to God's word despite any troubles you are facing. Beginning again with Jesus is a disciplined, faithful, step by step process. In order to get to the finish line, you have to leave the starting line. DON'T GIVE UP. AND DON'T LET THE FEAR OF DOING THE WRONG THING KEEP YOU FROM DOING SOMETHING THAT IS RIGHT. The formula for defeating the enemy and be a VICTOR and not a VICTIM is in your hands. 1.David ignored the criticism and the discouragement of others when he went to kill Goliath. You can also ignore the discouragement of others and march ahead with faith in GOD Almighty. 2.David remembered the victories that God gave him in the past. You can also remind yourself of all the victories that God has given you to reach where you are now. 3.David spoke positive words of victory and not defeat. You can also speak positive words of victory with God by your side. 4.David used the unique gifts and abilities that God had given him. You can also use the gifts and talents that God has given you at the right and appropriate time. 5.David was totally dependent on God for his victory, and did not ask anyone else to help him Likewise, you can also ask God to help you in all situations and not look to any human. So students, as we look ahead to the new term, look up to God to start a new beginning, and don't give up on anything. For, HE is the one who can change your destiny for the better. “I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me.” (Phil. 4.13). Keep saying this verse for you to succeed in all that you do. -Malathy Benjamin (Faculty) nrd;id fpwp];jtf; fy;Y}up koiyau; kw;Wk; njhlf;fg;gs;sp vq;fsJ gs;spapy; czTj;jpUtpohthdJ ed;ik jUk; etjhdpaq;fs; vd;wj; jiyg;gpy; 03.09.15 md;W kpfr; rpwg;ghff; nfhz;lhlg;gl;lJ. md;iwa jpdj;jpy; L.K.G, U.K.G kw;Wk; Kjyhk; tFg;G khztu;fsJ ngw;Nwhu;fs; etjhdpaq;fs;> rpWjhdpaq;fs; kw;Wk; fPiu tiffs; itj;J> fPiu mil> Nfo;tuFf; nfhOf;fl;il> etjhdpa Rz;ly;> etjhdpag;nghq;fy;> fk;G my;th> gpuz;ilj; Jitay; Nghd;w gy;NtW tifahd czTg; gz;lq;fs; nra;J te;J rpwg;gpj;jhu;fs;. khztu;fs; jtpu;f;f Ntz;ba czTfs;> rj;jhd czTfs; gw;wpj; njupe;J nfhz;lhu;fs;. ngw;Nwhu;fSf;Fk; czTg; gof;f tof;fj;jpy; tpopg;Gzu;T Vw;gLj;Jk; tpjkhf tpoh rpwg;ghf eilngw;wJ vd;gjpy; kpFe;j kfpo;r;rp nfhs;fpd;Nwhk;. TEACHERS' DAY at MCC Nursery and Primary school “Those who educate children well are more to be honoured than they who produce them; for these only gave them life, those the art of living well.” - Aristotle USA Admission Mela The virtue for the month October - Honesty Over twenty-five 12 standard students visited the USA Admission Mela, held at The Park hotels, with staff advisor Mr. Moses Peter on Sunday, September 15 to learn about opportunities to study at American Universities. Over 20 Universities, such as the University of Findlay in Ohio, Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma, and Grand Valley State University in Michigan, were present and available to offer advice and guidance about their educational opportunities. During this two-hour session, students received information about faculty-to-student ratio, fees and tuition, scholarships, campus life, and accommodations. Students were also told the requirements for gaining admission to some of these prestigious Universities. The MCCS students who visited the Mela returned to campus around noon with a greater understanding of the American University system and potential opportunities to further their studies. Students interested in assistance for applying to a foreign University can contact Mr.Chendhilvel or Ms. Samantha Mendoza for more information. -Haniel, XII-S “I think that's the most important thing you can do to be a real person-is to be honest with yourself.” - Mike Dirnt Be yourself and everyone around you will like you. Isn't that what most people say? Well that statement is entirely true. When you are honest and loyal with your friends and family, you will have their respect and admiration. Keeping in mind that the virtue for the month of October is honesty, apply the principle of being truthful in your daily activities. As a result, you can live delightedly. Great people were truthful in their works; therefore they are remembered as great individuals. A wise man once said that the quality of a human being can be measured by his or her sincerity and honesty. These characteristics are the key in developing one's potential and contributing to personal growth. Be authentic and truthful in everything you do, not just for yourself, but for the benefit of others. Can you try being honest? Think about it... -Haniel, XII-S Article on September Theme: Thankfulness “Thank you” is undoubtedly the most frequently used formal phrase. It is free: it costs nothing to give, but brings so many rewards, such as friendship, harmony and a stronger relationship with the person who received your thanks. Often the phrase is mechanical and we use it without much thought. But showing true thankfulness is more than just saying a couple of words at the conclusion of a speech or when someone accepts your friend request on Facebook. What matters more than the words themselves is the sincerity and gratitude with which the words are spoken. Thankfulness is a consequence of selflessness and a measure to promote human charity, bringing us closer together a few words at a time. So the next time you are about to mutter “thank you” to someone, do it with your whole heart, and remember these helpful tips. 1. Being thankful is always accompanied with a smile. 2. A simple “thank you” can create the beginning of a new relationship. 3. God is thankful when we give thanks to Him. 4. “Thank you” can bridge the gap between friends and enemies, creating a platform for mutual understanding and reconciliation. 5. The state of being thankful is a symbol of eternal selflessness. So thank you, dear friends, for taking the time to read this article. And remember to practice the art of thankfulness not just for this month, but throughout your daily lives. -Sanathoi Irom, XII-D M. Giridharan and R. Sarath Kumar of standard 11 C were selected to participate in the game show ‘Oru Varthai Oru Latcham’ on Vijay TV. They are also qualified for the next round. The management, teachers and students wish them all success. Our school Rock band won the first place in GENESIS 2015, a cultural event organised by Asan Memorial Sr. Sec. School. Career counsellig sessions in MCC School Success stories In its 180 years of existence, MCCS has a continued legacy of tradition, perseverance, and success. It is impossible for students to leave this school upon completion of 12th Standard without having been transformed by the education that they have received. MCCS alumni are committed to serving others, striving for excellence, and leaving a positive and lasting impact on the world. We will be sharing some of the success stories of MCCS Alumni each month, starting with our very own Headmaster Mr. G.J. Manohar. On August 10, 2015 Ms. Sowmmiya Somanathon and Ms. Arthi form Ruitsumeikan Asia Pacific University Regional Head Office, South India visited our school and gave a deliberate insight to the interested students about the Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan and the admission procedure. Dr. Mythili Jog with a student of Tel Aviv University Mr. Shivprasad explained the scope and opportunities of studying Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Electronics Engineering in Tel Aviv University, Israel on August 21, 2015. Students eagerly noted down all the information regarding admission. Merchant Navy is one of the lucrative jobs which the students are supposed to be well informed. We arranged a counselling session for our students about Merchant Navy on September 14, 2015. Commodore Nathan from Anglo-Eastern Maritime Academy gave a clear picture of the current scenario to the students. -N.Chendhilvel (Faculty) G.J. Manohar: Mr. Manohar studied in MCCS from 6th standard to 12th standard from 1974-1981. Although the school was not coeducational at the time and the school system was “more relaxed,” it was during these formative years that Mr. Manohar made lifelong friends and realized the value of education. He decided to pursue a career in education, first working as a Vice Principal at St. John's Senior Secondary School in Besant Nagr before returning to MCCS as a teacher in 1995. In 2006, he received the prestigious honour of being selected as the school's Headmaster, and since then his life has been filled with the pleasure of impacting the lives of numerous students each day. In his time as HM, Mr. Manohar helped to change MCCS into a coeducational institution in 2010, giving everybody an equal opportunity to become a part of the MCCS family. He has also introduced many other revolutionary concepts to the school, such as Smart Board classes, Nursery & Primary sections, and the revival of the Old Boys Association (OBA). But even aside from these accomplishments, he says that his most memorable moments as HM are the moments in which he is spending time with students and enjoying their company. His words of advice to MCCS students are “Don't forget school life. Keep in touch with friends with whom you first met.” Mr. Manohar continues to inspire others, and serves as a shining example of the success that MCCS brings to its students and the continued relationship that alumni have with the school. Be on the lookout for another alumni profile in next month's “Success stories”. -Haniel and Alan Jones, XII-S
