With the new Florida standards in place to
help Florida students succeed, the Florida
Standards Assessments (FSA) in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, and end-ofcourse (EOC) subjects (Algebra 1, Algebra 2,
and Geometry) will serve Florida students by
measuring education gains and progress. Students, parents/guardians, and educators are
encouraged to stay connected to the FSA Portal to receive important announcements and
access information and resources as they are
available. The web site address is: http://
www.fsassessments.org/ .
Parents can promote student success by staying involved in their child’s education, offering positive support and feedback and encouraging them to relax and do their very best. By
staying connected with their student’s school
and teachers and taking advantage of online
resources, such as school websites and portals,
parents can stay informed and be best
equipped to meet the needs of their students at
home. You may also visit the Okaloosa District web site at http://
www.okaloosaschools.com/content/
curriculum-florida-standards, to stay
abreast of the latest training materials for students.

FCA
FBLA
On Friday, February 13, 40 students
attended the Okaloosa Walton Buck
Smith FCA All Sports breakfast at the
Emerald Coast Convention Center.
They joined approximately 1000 middle and high school students for a delicious free breakfast buffet which
was followed by awards and inspirational Christian messages. Students
heard from national sport figures and
local students who have excelled in
the areas of academics, sports, community service and faith. Besides
hearing how Christ is playing the
central role in the lives of the speakers, the students also enjoyed plates
heaped with bacon, eggs and biscuits! Bruner’s FCA was one of the
largest middle school FCA groups
and meets in Ms. Anderson’s room
every Thursday morning before
school. There is no fee or application
for this Christ centered club.

MEDIA CENTER NEWS
The media center would like to
recognize Taylor Farnsworth,
8th grade, for recently breaking the Bruner record for most
RC points. RC stands for
Reading Counts, a reading
program similar to AR in elementary school.
Students
read books and take a computer test and earn points for
passing the test. The previous
Bruner record was 1,016
points for the school year, and Taylor has already broken that
record with 1,345 points and is on his way to even more with
several weeks of reading-time left in the school year.
Congratulations to Taylor! Keep on reading and succeeding!
Reminder...all
6th graders
need their 7th
grade shots
before the
beginning of
school next
year.
