The Workhop Quantitative Biomedicine for Health and Disease has concluded successfully

BCAM held this scientific activity on February 24-25, 2016
This workshop, organized by the first time on 2015, is expected to becoming a regular event in the next years.
The second workshop on Quantitative Biomedicine for Health and Disease has gathered experts currently working in
biomedicine to cross ideas between potential compatibilities, advantages and disadvantages of approaching human health and
its pathologies through the mathematics and engineering given their potential to address important biomedical questions.
The most recent findings, developments and challenges in the field of quantitative biomedicine: heart dynamics modeling and
electrophysiology, excitability of individual cells, neuroimaging of brain and its pathologies, image processing in cancer research,
etc., has been discussed by high profile speakers across world leading institutions that whose interacted with young talented
researchers, emphasizing on current approaches and outstanding questions that should be addressed in future research.
The workshop has provided a platform for researchers whom to come together and discuss on:
a) the scope and nature of information provided by Biomedical data
b) the assumptions and constraints imposed by mathematical and engineering approaches and
c) the capacity and limitations that arise when particular methods (i.e. modeling and simulation, network theory or image
processing) are employed to different human pathologies.
The scientific program consisted of twelve invited talks delivered by:

BCAM ha acogido esta actividad científica en Febrero 24-25, 2016
Este taller, organizado la primera vez en 2015, y espera convertirse en una actividad recurrente en los próximos años.
El segundo taller Quantitative Biomedicine for Health and Disease ha reunido expertos que trabajan actualmente en la
biomedicina, para compartir información y compatibilidades potenciales sobre ventajas y desventajas de acercarse a la salud
humana y sus patologías desde las matemáticas y la ingeniería para abordar importantes cuestiones biomédicas.
Los hallazgos más recientes, novedades y retos en el campo de la biomedicina cuantitativa: modelamiento dinámico del
corazón y la electrofisiología, la excitabilidad de las células individuales, neuroimágenes de cerebro y sus patologías, el
procesamiento de imágenes en la investigación del cáncer, etc., han sido discutidos por conferenciantes de alto perfil de las
principales instituciones de todo el mundo que interactuaron con los jóvenes investigadores, enfatizando en los enfoques
actuales y las cuestiones pendientes que se deben abordar en futuras investigaciones.
El taller ha proporcionado una plataforma para los investigadores para reunirse y discutir sobre:
a) el alcance y la naturaleza de la información proporcionada por los datos Biomédicos
b) los supuestos y las limitaciones impuestas por la matemática y los enfoques de ingeniería y
c) la capacidad y limitaciones que se presentan cuando se emplean métodos particulares (es decir, de modelado y
simulación, teoría de red o de procesamiento de imágenes) a diferentes patologías humanas.
