Maureen Linnebur - Happy Retirement! After 35 years of working at St. Linus, she wanted to
take her leave as quietly as she came in but we could
not let her go without a HUGE THANK YOU! This
coming Tuesday, May 27th, will be Maureen's last day
of work. She is retiring and will be on a permanent

DID YOU KNOW?
A healthy scrutiny of programs for kids helps create a healthy environment
It is not a best practice for a parent, guardian, employer, or manager to blindly trust everyone who works
with children. Yet, paranoia of those who work with children is also not a best practice. There is a healthy
balance. By regularly and frequently questioning the actions and motives of those who work with children,
parents and other adults can audit the programs their children participate in and help keep caregivers accountable for their work. In this process, parents and other adults can create a constant fear of being caught
in the mind of a perpetrator. By channeling this kind of healthy scrutiny and suspicion into accountability,
adults can create an environment where children are protected, quality care is emulated, and abuse is not
tolerated. For a copy of the VIRTUS® article, “An ounce of healthy suspicion is worth a pound of prevention,” email: jvienna@la-archdiocese.org.
prevención” (An ounce of healthy suspicion is worth a pound of prevention), escriba a

Youth Ministry/LIFE TEEN
LIFE Nights are meetings that immediately follow the Youth Mass on Sunday evening from 7:00 - 8:45 PM
and take place in the parish hall and are an integral part of a comprehensive youth ministry experience. Teens
in preparation for confirmation are expected to attend all nights. Focus for Life Nights include: Prayer & Worship, Community Building (Social), and Pastoral Care/Issue Nights. Our Confirmation preparation sessions
are more weighted on the catechetical component of youth ministry, but many components overlap the various
meetings.
Semester Schedule
The Nights for the remainder of the year all follow a theme. The theme of this semester was: Vocation. Often
when teenagers and adults hear “vocations,” they think, “All they are going to talk about is becoming a priest.”
Yes, priesthood is one particular vocation, but we are taking an approach to the semester in a much broader
sense. The dates, titles and topics for the remainder of the semester are:
Tonight: “Bound Together” – Discernment and Community
May 25: “Linus Got Talent” – Annual Talent Show (see below)
Stay tuned for summer social schedules and “fun”raisers.
Talent Show
The past 5 years LIFE TEEN has hosted a Youth Ministry Talent show. Over that time it has grown to an extraordinary success highlighting the talents of young people in the entire parish. Start rehearsing, audition
forms are available now! This annual event will be the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, May 26 and will be
from 7:30 PM – 9 PM. Admission is $2 and Refreshments will available for purchase. Proceeds will go to
offset expenses for our summer programming, Steubenville and Music Ministry Alive Conference.
Sacramental Preparation for High School Teens (Confirmation & First Communion)
Registration is Available NOW! Teens interested in getting involved in confirmation MUST first register for
youth ministry. Young ladies needing to register for youth ministry in order to schedule their Quinceañera are
also asked to register for youth ministry. Please send and email to dean@stlinus.org to request a copy of the
registration packet. A limited number of hard copies are available in the parish office or in the church. A $25
discount will be available when ALL registration materials are received on or before June 8, (Pentecost Sunday). For your convenience we will have a table set up outside of church after the LIFE TEEN Mass that
evening.
Phase 1 – Last meeting of this school year is June 2. This is a pot-luck Gathering. Phase 2 applications are
due. An interview is required in order to be invited to be a confirmation candidate. An interview will NOT be
scheduled unless you have turned in ALL materials required with the application.
Phase 2 – Attend the final small group meetings the week of June 2nd. Certificates and Photos will be available
to those who have zero outstanding balances.
Stay Connected
We in youth ministry are on a mission to stay more connected to our teens and their families than ever before.
If you have a Facebook profile please “like” our page at “Linus LIFE TEEN.” For those of you looking for
more frequent reminders that pertain to teens in youth ministry, phase one and phase 2, you can do so by sending a text to 562-741-8966 with the message “@linu” or send an email to linu@mail.remind.101.com and get
reminders right to your phone or e-mail in box.
The Mustard Seed mission trip to Jamaica has ten spaces open for volunteers. We would like more volunteers to join us in working with the children of Mustard Seed, and on their service projects. We need confirmation
by next week, June 1. If you are interested, please bring a $100 deposit and
meet with us on June 1 after the 9am mass at 10:15am at the benches.
"Lord, teach us to recognize our talents and use them for your greater glory. Increase our faith and confidence,
as collectively we try to attain our mission of service to your people, with gratitude and time spent with you.
Amen."

SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
Who can forgive sins?
God alone can forgive sins. Jesus could say "Your sins are forgiven" (Mk 2:5) only because he is the
Son of God. And priests can forgive sins in Jesus' place only because Jesus has given them that authority.
Many people say, "I can go directly to God; why do I need a priest?" God, though, wants it otherwise.
We rationalize our sins away and like to sweep things under the rug. That is why God wants us to tell
our sins and to acknowledge them in a personal encounter. Therefore, the following words from the
Gospel are true of priests: "If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of
any, they are retained." (YOUCAT question 228)
