International Formalwear Association Formal Times Newsletter EXPO 32 Location and City Set! Tentative plans were made at the board meeting for this summer’s EXPO 32. The Chicago Hyatt Regency McCormick Place July 31, Aug 1 & 2!!! Save the date and watch for details!!! Look out Chicago!!! What do you think of a roaring 20’s mobster theme for the Black tie???? IFA Winter Board Meeting The IFA winter board meeting was held last week in Tampa FL with the EXPO, Tuxedofit, Education, social media, and newsletter all being discussed. Details coming soon! We will also be looking for interested individuals who may be willing to serve on the board of directors. Would you be willing or do you have someone to nominate???? Please contact Tom Deitte or Ken Pendley! The Year in Review 2012 brought many advances to The International Formalwear Association began its 5th year as a self managed organization and things just keep getting better!!! January found the entire board of directors in Phoenix for the annual Winter meeting. Did you know the boards of directors are all volunteers??? They all pay their own travel expenses and people to cover their stores while attending this event to make the organization better than ever!!! This meeting brought about the decision on having Expo 31 in New Orleans. We had been in Las Vegas for years prior and through great research and consideration New Orleans was chosen! February is a time of great planning for the EXPO. W.T. Glasgow does much of the planning yet, to get location, costs and arrangements made requires the constant attention of the convention committee as well. Dates for the convention were actually changed from what was first decided to move the event to Astor Crowne Plaza right on Bourbon from the big convention center where originally chosen. A trip by Ken Pendley and Brian Glasgow initiated the change much for the better of our organization and all the people who would attend. March finds all of the retailers busy in their stores with the beginning of prom and wedding season throughout the country. March is also the month 3 years ago when Tuxedofit was first fully launched. Tuxedofit has grown to be a great tool especially for small operators throughout the country. The system helps stores to compete against corporate giants by being part of a National fitting Network of our own that your membership with the association makes you part of!!! When a bride and groom tells you they have people all over the country your response can now be: “We are part of a national fitting network that helps your groomsmen not only find a place to be measured where they live, but also gives them the ability to submit measurements back here to our store 24 hours a day!! Let me tell you about Tuxedofit!” April/May/June/July go by in a blur of prom activity and busier wedding season in the stores and continued planning for the Expo…..Seminar speakers were arranged and details began to emerge about events and activities for everyone while at the show including nightly meeting places while out on Bourbon Street to meet up with other specialists. During these months agreements were worked out with Savvi and Tuxedo Junction to also attend expo and conduct their own event in correlation with many of the IFA sponsored activities. August EXPO 31 New Orleans Astor Crowne Plaza in beautiful New Orleans LA August 22, 23, & 24th! Expo began for all Wednesday afternoon with an educational opportunity with Chris Evans. A dynamite “boot camp” speaker presented: Attraction Marketing. The show floor then opened to all attending for the very busy First day. Wednesday nite was the Black Tie Masquerade and GREAT TIME!! And after the black tie off to Bourbon Street to the Cat’s Meow Karaoke Bar! DAY 2 of Expo started off with Nancy Haboush’s seminar ALWAYS a very popular event! Her topic was: Now What. A Then off to the BUSY show floor! Chris Evans offered another WELL attended seminar at the close of the show floor Then off to another meet and greet at Razoo’s on Bourbon Tammy Elliott offered our Friday morning seminar entitled: Position Your Business with Passion and Power The show floor with all the fantastic vendors new and established was again open 10-4 for the final day! And thankfully the hurricane headed that way did not cause serious damage and did not hit until a few days AFTER we left town….. September/October/Novemeber/December Brought regional shows GLITS Midwest regional was held in Chicago October 2/3, the west coast show in Anaheim on October 7/8. The East coast Secaucus show was scheduled for the weekend the hurricane devastated the area and was postponed until January due to the severity of the damage… A great year for the association overall with a well received show and plans to make the next one bigger and better!!!
