Ulster Rugby has teamed up with two
awarding winning local agri-food
companies for the 2014/15 season.
Linden Foods and White’s Oats part of
the Fane Valley Group of Companies
will both be ‘Official Suppliers’ to the
Ulster Rugby squad.
said: “As we look to explore new initiatives it
is important we do so with the best partners.
Linden Foods and White’s Oats are valued
suppliers to the team and add to the already
successful supplier companies working with
the professional team to achieve the highest
levels of performance.” Linden Foods and White’s are market leaders in
their respective industries, both are UK award
winning companies who have forged strong
relationships with their local farmers over the
years through direct supply chains. These
two companies are very much invested in the
community and Ulster Rugby is proud to be
able to announce Linden Foods and White’s as
our Official Suppliers for the new season.
William Waugh Procurement Director at Linden
Foods was proud to be at the launch and
commented: “On a professional level it is great
for Linden Foods to be associated in a supplier
capacity with Ulster Rugby. We are delighted
our products have been chosen to power the
performance of the team. On a personal level
it’s brilliant; I am a huge Ulster supporter and
feel very proud and privileged to be here on
the pitch to launch our new supplier deal.
Coming here every Friday night will feel that

and raised £3,000 for Breast Cancer

Wear It Pink day is firmly fixed in the

Fane Valley Stores Recommend Fasinex®240,
24% Oral Suspension For Your Dairy Cattle.
In the dairy sector a recent study by a
veterinary pharmaceutical company
alarmingly found that 85% of dairy
herds in Northern Ireland had liver
fluke infections.
In the dairy cow liver fluke infections reduce
productivity and can reduce milk yields by 10
to 15%. Milk quality and conception rates also
suffer dramatically as a result of infection.
All cattle are susceptible to infection regardless
of age and therefore treatment of all bovines is
to be recommended. It is vitally important to
be aware that cattle never develop immunity
to liver fluke irrespective of age. Therefore,
this necessitates timely ongoing treatment for
this parasite.
Making the correct choice for effective liver
fluke control has become more and more
important in recent years. The cost of an
effective treatment is minimal in comparison to
the loss of production of milk yield or DLWG.

Enterprise, Trade and Investment
Minister Arlene Foster has announced
White’s Speedicook Ltd is creating
29 new jobs as part of significant
expansion plans.
that involves process improvements, skills
development and new marketing initiatives to
raise its profile in its existing markets as well
as the rest of Europe, US, Asia and the Middle
East.
The company, based in Tandragee, part of the
Fane Valley Group of Armagh since 1994, is
Northern Ireland’s only oat miller and a leading
producer of porridge oats and other snack and
breakfast products.
“The company has a solid base for growth
in terms of an impressive range of quality
products. I know that opportunities for further
growth are now being implemented to convert
these into additional export business which will
benefit employees, the 25 local farmers who
provide oats to the business, other suppliers
and the wider community.”
Speaking during a visit to the company’s
oat milling and processing operation Arlene
Foster said: “White’s Speedicook Ltd is to be
commended for what is a major initiative to
increase the competitiveness of its portfolio
of products particularly in markets outside
Northern Ireland. The expansion plans
represent a £1.5million capital investment in
buildings, plant and machinery over the next
three years. I am pleased that Invest NI are
supporting this through providing assistance
of £217,500. It is important that we continue
to support companies and business that are
looking to develop and expand especially
in rural areas. Companies such as White’s
Speedicook Ltd are an important source of
local employment and helping to sustain the
local economy and community.
“To achieve its objective of doubling sales and
profits over the next three years, the company
has developed a new business growth strategy
Trevor Lockhart, Fane Valley Chief Executive,
said: “This is a very significant expansion for
White’s and is an integral part of our wider
Fane Valley Group strategy to grow our
business operations profitably by sharpening
our focus on sales outside Northern Ireland.
advanced photo scanning technology to more
recently the installation of two new packing
lines. The business now has the capability to
produce multiple pack formats from traditional
block bottom, vertical form fill & seal, sachet
portioning, caddy and ‘eat on the go’ pots.”
“Health & convenience represent two key
consumer trends which White’s is ideally
placed to service. The benefits of regularly
eating porridge oats has been well recognised
by consumers and health professionals. Our
focus is on producing healthy, convenient and
natural products and making them available
to time pressed consumers. The opportunities
looking forward are very exciting.”
“White’s is operating in the immensely
competitive and fast moving breakfast
cereal marketplace. We benefit particularly
from our sustainable supply chain and close
relationship with local farmers, which ensure
the provenance, traceability and safety being
increasingly demanded by consumers in many
international markets.
General Manager James Mathers commented:

Fane Valley Feeds Install Fleetmatics Monitoring
& Tracking GPS Systems For Better Fleet Efficiency!
Fane Valley Feeds is one of the largest
feed manufacturers in Northern
Ireland and has recently introduced
new Fleetmatics GPS Systems to its
transport fleet, providing a highly
efficient monitoring and tracking
service that will increase performance
and add significant benefits to
customer service.
As part of their ongoing commitment to
continuous improvement and innovation and
with a strong focus on Corporate Responsibility
and the environment, Fane Valley Feeds has
raised the bar again and installed the latest
technology that can give them real time screen
based tracking of its vehicles. The software
identifier can show which vehicle is where, so
to increase efficiency and mill programming.
The Feeds division of the farming Co-operative
is delivering the highest quality dairy, beef,
sheep, pig and poultry feeds across the
province from both sites in Omagh and
Newry.
David Garrett – Managing Director, Fane Valley
Feeds commented:
Mael Wins George
Dawson Award!
“We are very excited to install this new
technology on our modern delivery fleet, we
are now very well equipped and strategically
positioned to service the Province and the
border counties of Louth, Monaghan, Cavan,
Leitrim, Sligo and Donegal. The technology will mean that loads that will
be made to order can be manufactured, just in
time, for the next lorry returning to the mill.”
He continued… “The mapping and tracking
of our fleet will ensure efficient routing for
our customers. This will also help to identify
areas which we don’t service or where field
staff overlap. The bespoke nature of the GPS
system allows our team to monitor M.P.G. and
driving style. An important benefit to the system is the
synchronising of our fuel cards, which can give
accurate fuel consumption figures for each
vehicle. Fleetmatics claim at least 10% saving
in fuel.”

Linden Foods & Linergy Lead The Way With
Global First Prosperity Agreement With NIEA
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan
and Dungannon based agri-food
companies, Linden Foods Ltd and
Linergy have signed the world’s first
Prosperity Agreement.
The agreement will turn environment issues
from barriers to business into economic
growth opportunities.
The deal is that the Northern Ireland
Environment Agency (NIEA), while firmly
regulating, will work to reduce red tape.
In turn the companies invest heavily in the
environment. Linden Foods and Linergy
are committing significant investment
in the environment. In addition to many
environmental benefits it will mean them
reducing their carbon emissions by a
staggering 25%.
The Environment Minister, speaking at
Linden Food Headquarters in Dungannon
said: “Last year, I outlined my vision for the
environment agenda in Northern Ireland: ‘A
Better Environment – A Stronger Economy’.
My message was clear, long-term economic
prosperity and well-being is only possible
through the responsible management of the
environment.
“I believe the biggest impact will come from
the main users of our natural resources,
Maurice Kettyle - Managing Director
collected the award on the night and was
pleased to receive a Highly Commended
second place.
the business community. We need to help
businesses to identify opportunities for growth
that reduces reliance on finite resources, reuse
and reduce waste and to rethink products.
“I told my Northern Ireland Environment
Agency (NIEA) to regulate firmly but also to
be more supportive of progressive businesses
which have a good compliance record. This
first Prosperity Agreement is a great example,
helping these progressive and compliant
companies in our critical agri-food sector to
reduce environmental impact in ways that
boost their competitiveness in their markets.
“There is no shortage of talk about
sustainability. There is, however, a shortage of
real action. This Prosperity Agreement shows
Northern Ireland is different. My environment
agency has sat down with two companies
and the parties have agreed real actions to
bring environment and economic objectives
together.
“Under this agreement, NIEA will redirect
resources from bureaucratic processes that
create no value to actions that support
Linden Foods and Linergy improve their
environmental performance in their own
operations and throughout their supply-chain.
I applaud both Linden and Linergy for their
vision and real desire to be at the forefront of
progressive sustainable business here”.

Linergy the innovative renewable
energy company has been awarded
‘GREEN’ Company Of The Year at
the recent UTV Business Eye Awards
beating off stiff competition in Graham
Construction, Charles Hurst Group,
Tayto and the Henderson Group.
Operating from Granville Industrial Estate
in Dungannon, Linergy has been producing
renewable fuels from organic waste and animal
by-products since 2005. Several million pounds
has been spent to establish the state of the
art rendering plant in Co. Tyrone. The result
of which is the production of two-renewable
biomass fuels: Tallow oil and Meat & Bone
meal.
The award winning company is leading the
way with biosecurity and provides a hugely
successful service for farmers to dispose of dead
animals very quickly by bringing the carcasses
to a dedicated area of the plant.
“Linergy was the clear choice of the judges in
what was a very competitive category. What
set them apart from the others shortlisted was
both the innovative nature of the company, its
recent global first Prosperity Agreement and
the fact it ticked all the boxes when it came to
environmental credentials.”
Said; Richard Buckley – Business Eye Editor
In August this year Environment Minister Mark
H Durkan signed the world’s first Prosperity
Agreement with LINERGY and the Northern
Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA).
It’s an unusual partnership when competing
companies collaborate to start a new business;
but when faced with a radically changing
operating environment rivalries quickly
disappear. That was the situation for Linden
Foods, Fane Valley and Dunbia; three significant
players in the Northern Ireland agri-food
industry, who joined forces to created Linergy.
Richard Moore, Managing Director – Linergy,
commented: “It has been an exciting few
months for Linergy, first with the signing of the
Prosperity Agreement and now the winning of
this prestigious award. We have a great team
back at Linergy and great relationships with
the rural community so it is especially pleasing
when recognised at this level for GREEN
Company of The Year and given the caliber of
the others shortlisted, we feel very proud.”
