What Is RtI?
Response to Intervention (RtI) is a
process designed to help schools focus
on high-quality interventions that are
matched to student needs and
monitored on a frequent basis. The
information gained from an RtI process
is used by school personnel and parents
to adapt instruction and to make
decisions regarding the studentʼs
educational program.

Teachers use assessment data to
monitor studentsʼ progress and make
important decisions about what and how
to teach children who are not making
sufficient progress.
Our RtI system is divided into a four-tier
intervention model:

Self-contained curriculum
An intervention exists as an opportunity
for a student to receive the extra time
and support he or she needs in order to
demonstrate content, concept, and skill
acquisition relative to the District 96
Curriculum Framework. Interventions exist
within District 96 as part of students’
regular school day. Interventions in District
96 also meet the United States
Department of Education provisions of
“Response to Intervention” (RtI).
Students are provided access to
academic intervention on an individual
basis, demonstrated through
performance and assessment. The
frequency and intensity of the support is
determined by the individual needs of
learners. As student need increases, so,
too, does the frequency and/or intensity
of support. Student progress is monitored
regularly. As a student demonstrates
proficiency regarding the targeted area
of intervention, he or she will be cycled
out of the specific intervention. As a
general rule, each intervention cycle will
last approximately 6-8 weeks.
