Parent Notification & Collaboration
• Parents are notified when
students are identified as
needing Tier 2 interventions.
• Parents will be invited to
collaborate regarding their
studentʼs intervention plan
when considering the need for
Tier 3 interventions.

What Is RtI?
Response to Intervention (RtI) is a
process designed to help schools focus
on evidence-based interventions that
are matched to student needs and
monitored on a frequent basis. The
information gained from an RtI process
is used by school personnel and parents
to adapt instruction and to make
decisions regarding the studentʼs
educational program. Perhaps the
greatest benefit of an RtI approach is
that it eliminates a “wait to fail” situation
because students get help promptly
within the general education setting.
The middle school teachers use
assessment data to monitor studentsʼ
progress and make important decisions
about what and how to teach children
who are not making sufficient progress.
Our RtI system is divided into a four-tier
intervention model:
Tier 4:
Special
Education
Tier 3:
Few Students
Tier 2:
Some Students
Tier 1:
All Students
Tier 1: All Students
What Is an Intervention?
• Evidence-based curriculum and
instructional strategies delivered to all
students.
An intervention exists as an opportunity for a
student to receive the extra time and support
he or she needs in order to demonstrate
content, concept, and skill acquisition relative
to the District 96 Curriculum Framework.
Interventions exist within District 96 as part of
studentsʼ regular school day. Interventions in
District 96 also meet the United States
Department of Education provisions of
“Response to Intervention” (RtI).”
• All students are assessed through universal
screening measures.
Tier 2: Some Students
• Targeted interventions provided based on
student assessment data.
• Progress is monitored regularly.
Tier 3: Few Students
• Intensive individualized interventions of
increased time and intensity provided
based on student assessment data and
response to prior intervention.
• Progress is monitored weekly.
Tier 4: Special Education
• Students who require ongoing intensive
specialized instruction may be identified for
special education services based on an
individualized evaluation following parental
consent.
• If students qualify for special education
services and parents give consent for
services, an Individualized Educational
Plan is developed and implemented based
on identified needs.
Our students are provided access to
academic intervention on an individual basis,
demonstrated through performance and
assessment. The frequency and intensity of
the support is determined by the individual
needs of learners as identified by student
assessment data. As student need increases,
so, too, does the frequency and/or intensity
of support. Student progress is monitored
regularly. As a student demonstrates
proficiency regarding the targeted area of
intervention, he or she will be cycled out of
the specific intervention.
