A Gospel reflection from Fr. Alphonse:
ALL SAINTS DAY
Saints are people who grew in God’s love and
attained perfection. They prove that Jesus’
suffering and death has a meaning. They took the
Sermon on the Mount to heart and followed the
footsteps of Christ and joined the company of the
blessed ones in the glory of God.
Today they are our benefactors. They pray for us,
intercede for us and bring upon us God’s
blessings. Through them our life becomes more
meaningful, richer and worth living. They are the
signs of the Kingdom of God, the signs of God’s
goodness and love. Through them the world
becomes better, more human and more
livable. They were people like any one of us but
they fought against the power of darkness (Eph.
6:12) and led people to God. They are our
examples, helpers, patrons and path makers on
our pilgrimage to eternity.
Today as we celebrate the Feast of all Saints, let
us imbibe the spirit of these ‘friends of God’ and
follow their examples in our effort to join the
company of the blessed.

We give back to the Lord only what He has first given us
– we come into this world with nothing; we shall leave
with nothing. Freely we have received of the Lord’s
blessings; let us graciously return to him the first and the
best that we have.

SECOND COLLECTION THIS WEEK FOR THE POOR
Purgatory is the state of those who die in God’s friendship,
assured of their eternal salvation, but who still have need of
purification to enter into the happiness of heaven. Because
of the communion of saints, the faithful who are still pilgrims
on earth are able to help the souls in purgatory by offering
prayers in suffrage for them, especially the Eucharistic
sacrifice. They also help them by almsgiving, indulgences,
and works of penance.
We pray for and we remember our loved ones that
have gone before us…. Fr. Alphonse will offer a
novena of masses for those enrolled in the All
Souls Day Remembrance:
We have loved them during life, let us not abandon
them, until we have conducted them by our
prayers into the house of the Lord.” - St. Ambrose
WELCOME NEWCOMERS OR VISITORS: Newcomers or
visitors wishing to become members of St. Charles or Our Lady of
the Lake, please fill out a membership form located in the back of
church and give the form to one of the greeters/ushers.
Send bulletin announcements by 5:00 PM on MONDAY to
stcharles@nctv.com. You must put in the subject line of email
“bulletin announcement”. This will help us and it will ensure your
important information is not overlooked.
Please drop any notes to Fr. Alphonse or reimbursement
forms, mass intentions, flower requests, etc. in the secure
locking mailbox that has been placed on the wall by the
rectory office door.

CATHOLIC CORNER: (a gentle reminder of facts we’ve learned but perhaps have forgotten or not thought about in a long
time)
The Holy Souls in purgatory are incapable of helping themselves. They depend on the works of mercy
by the living and the mercy of Jesus and Mary to shorten their time in purgatory. Their souls are very dear
to God’s Heart. He is most generous to those who offer every good act, suffering, prayers, or Holy Mass for
these souls. In gratitude they intercede for us.

…..and we pray for the souls of those forgotten or those who have no one to offer prayers for them.
The annual diocesan Catholic Services Appeal will be conducted next weekend. Each year, our
bishop asks every one of us to make a commitment to support the work of our diocesan
programs and ministries. By sharing the gifts God has granted us, we can work together to care
for the Church. Please experience the joy of giving and join us as we work to continue Christ’s
work of spirituality, charity and education.
Let us all rejoice in the Lord, as we celebrate the feast
day in honor of all the Saints, at whose festival the
Angels rejoice and praise the Son of God.
We will not have Coffee & Donuts on
Thanksgiving weekend
