Abashiri "champon" noodles are the fusion of Nagasaki/Unzen history and Hokkaido/Abashiri food culture. It is arranged in
the Obama "champon" style from Obama, Unzen City and served up deliciously. It is a dish that combines the strengths of
two vastly separated towns in northern and southern Japan. Abashiri "champon" is made with the passion of people who
love their community and warms both body and soul.

Okhotsk AbashiriZangi-don
This local delicacy was created so that more people could experience the deliciousness of Abashiri Okhotsk salmon.
Abashiri "zangi" is Abashiri Okhotsk salmon pickled in fish soy sauce and deep fried. It is then served on top of Hokkaido
rice. This dish is popular even with the children who do not like fish because of its meaty taste.

Roadside station "RyuhyoKaidoAbashiri"
Located at the mouth of the Abashiri River, it's a tourism and exchange center that doubles as a functional rest stop where
you can get a view of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Shiretoko Peninsula. You can find tourism information and various other
information on the area here, and they sell local agricultural and processed marine products. The center further serves as a
base in winter for drift ice sightseeing as the launching port of the Aurora icebreaker and sightseeing ship.

Okhotsk Ryuhyo Museum
This science museum is themed with the drift ice and creatures of the Sea of Okhotsk. There is a drift ice laboratory where
you can touch actual drift ice even in summer. Inside this -15°C room you can also enjoy swinging a wet towel around and
watching it freeze in a twisted shape. You can also closely see clione, the angels of the sea. Newly opened in August 2015.

Abashiri Prison Museum
The actual buildings of Abashiri Prison, which was used since the Meiji Period, were dismantled, restored, preserved, and
opened to the public as an outdoor museum. The radial five-winged one-story prison, built in 1896, is currently Japan's
oldest prison facility and the oldest wooden prison of this type in the world. There are plenty of displays on the history of the
prison as it developed as an administrative unit together with Hokkaido.

Abashiri Phlox Park
Some 150,000 phloxes bloom riotously in the 10ha of this hilly park in the Yobito region. In addition to the many blooming
phloxes in the park, visitors can get a view of Abashiri Lake and the plains towards Memanbetsu. The park trails are paved
with scallop shells. The reds, pinks, and purples of the phloxes paint a beautiful picture together with the white of the trails
and the blue of the Okhotsk sky.

Hokkaido Museum of Northern Peoples
The Hokkaido Museum of Northern Peoples is Japan's only museum dedicated to the northern regions, and one of the rarest
ethnology museums in the world. Permanent exhibits introduce the culture of various peoples in this northern region and
deep prehistoric culture related to their formation.

Moyoro Shell Mound Museum
These remains of middens were excavated from within the flat area of the left bank at the mouth of the Abashiri River in 1913. Distinct
from the people of the Ainu culture as well as others that existed at the time, these people were called the Moyoro people, and this
region was named MoyoroKaiduka (midden). Later it turned out that these were the remains of the Okhotsk culture that flourished
around the Sea of Okhotsk, and this museum, containing the typical remains of this culture, has become famous around the world.

Shiretoko World Natural Heritage
Shiretoko was registered as a world natural heritage in 2005. When it was registered, it was praised for the interrelationship
between its marine ecosystems that gives rise to drift ice and its highly primitive terrestrial ecosystem. It was also praised as
an important ecosystem for rare species such as Blakiston's fish owl and viola kitamiana, as well as fish from the salmon
family and marine mammals.

This morning market at the Abashiri Port is only held for a limited period. Visitors can enjoy purchasing local marine,

Abashiri Okhotsk Summer Festival
The Abashiri Okhotsk Summer Festival is a delightful summer festival in Abashiri. The central shopping district becomes a
pedestrian mall. 1,000 people every year perform the RyuhyoOdori dance, and elementary and junior/senior high school
students from the city perform in a big music parade. The highlight is the fireworks display. You can feel the force of the
fireworks shells at the port as the beautiful, huge fireworks color the skies and seas of Okhotsk.
