This sounds almost like a cliché anymore. But when you think about it, who do we ask to help us with poker runs and other fundraisers? We ask them for monetary contributions, merchandise donations, or the use of their business establishments. My experience has been 9 times out of 10 these folks dig deep into their pockets and help in whatever way they can. So, readers, please help keep biker money in the biker community by visiting the businesses advertised in this Ragazine. 5 Anyone planning a party or fundraiser should contact the new KICKSTART ENTERTAINMENT for planning assistance. KICKSTART ENTERTAINMENT can handle all of the details of your event from advertising to booking entertainment to providing prizes and food. Their inaugural event will take place on April 5th at Lucky’s 3.5 miles east of Pryor on Highway 20. (Lucky’s is located 11.5 miles east of Claremore on Highway 20.) If you are planning an event, booking bands, or maybe just curious as to what KICKSTART ENTERTAINMENT is about, you should attend this event. Not only will you hear some great music, and eat some good food; you might also win some cool prizes (pg 8). I wish to thank each and every one of you, both readers and advertisers, for your continued readership and support. Without you folks OKLAHOMA BIKER would have remained just a dream of mine. I look forward to seeing you at all the events this year. May you always ride with Angels. Our Calendar incorrectly states the address for Sandite Billiards. The 28-year-old Oklahoma native is a musician’s musician. His interests in sound perked at age five when he started singing in the church. And it was his voice that took him to study music at Oklahoma State University and to places faraway in Europe, though nowadays Joe is known for his outlandish guitar playing, real-time phrase sampling and good ole Okie demeanor that has charmed audiences from Eugene, Oregon to Savannah, Georgia, and at major festivals like The Great Unknown (2003), SXSW (2004) and Zoe Jam (2005). Most recently, Mack won the 2007 Red Dirt Harvest Festival’s Singer/Songwriter Open-Mic Competition at the Grape Ranch Winery in Okemah, Oklahoma against 35 other song slingers in Woody Guthrie’s hometown. The round mound of sound has also shared bills and stages with some of the top talent from across the state and nation, including Ryan Adams, Tim Reynolds, George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Drew Emmitt & Vince Herman (formerly of Leftover Salmon,) the Mike Hosty Duo, The Burtschi Brothers, Randy Crouch, Split Lip Rayfield, Umphrey’s McGee, Carter Sampson, Speakeasy and the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. He’s currently playing guitar and singing backup vocals in singer/ songwriter Bill Erickson’s latest project, The New Migrant Workers, and performing as many solo gigs per month as his beautiful wife and animal family will let him. Mack is also in the process of co-producing his first full blown studio album with Travis Linville, which is set for release in the fall of 2008. The Democrats are riding high with two groundbreaking candidates — a woman and an African-American — while the conservative Republicans are in a quandary about their party’s nod to a quasi-liberal maverick, John McCain. Each candidate is carefully pandering to a smorgasbord of special-interest groups, ranging from gay, lesbian and transgender people to children of illegal immigrants to working mothers to evangelical Christians. There is one group no one has recognized, and it is the group that will decide the election: the Angry White Man. The Angry White Man comes from all economic backgrounds, from dirt-poor to filthy rich. He represents all geographic areas in America, from urban sophisticate to rural redneck, deep South to mountain West, left Coast to Eastern Seaboard. His common traits are that he isn’t looking for anything from anyone — just the promise to be able to make his own way on a level playing field. In many cases, he is an independent businessman and employs several people. He pays more than his share of taxes and works hard. The victimhood syndrome buzzwords — “disenfranchised,” “marginalized” and “voiceless” — don’t resonate with him. “Press ‘one’ for English” is a curseword to him. He’s used to picking up the OKLAHOMA BIKER RAG tab, whether it’s the company Christmas party, three sets of braces, three college educations or a beautiful wedding. He believes the Constitution is to be interpreted literally, not as a “living document” open to the whims and vagaries of a panel of judges who have never worked an honest day in their lives. The Angry White Man owns firearms, and he’s willing to pick up a gun to defend his home and his country. He is willing to lay down his life to defend the freedom and safety of others, and the thought of killing someone who needs killing really doesn’t bother him. The Angry White Man is not a metrosexual, a homosexual or a victim. Nobody like him drowned in Hurricane Katrina — he got his people together and got the hell out, then went back in to rescue those too helpless and stupid to help themselves, often as a police officer, a National Guard soldier or a volunteer firefighter. His last name and religion don’t matter. His background might be Italian, English, Polish, German, Slavic, Irish, or Russian, and he might have Cherokee, Mexican, or Puerto Rican mixed in, but he considers himself a white American. He’s a man’s man, the kind of guy who likes to play poker, watch football, hunt white-tailed deer, call turkeys, play golf, spend a few bucks at a strip club once in a blue moon, change his own oil and build things. He coaches baseball, soccer and football teams and doesn’t ask for a penny. He’s the kind of guy who can put an addition on his house OKLAHOMA BIKER RAG with a couple of friends, drill an oil well, weld a new bumper for his truck, design a factory and publish books. He can fill a train with 100,000 tons of coal and get it to the power plant on time so that you keep the lights on and never know what it took to flip that light switch. 31 is pissed off. When his job site becomes flooded with illegal workers who don’t pay taxes and his wages drop like a stone, he gets righteously angry. When his job gets shipped overseas, and he has to speak to some incomprehensible idiot in India for tech support, he simmers. When Al Sharpton comes on TV, leading Women either love him or hate him, but some rally for reparations for slavery they know he’s a man, not a dishrag. or some such nonsense, he bites his If they’re looking for someone to walk tongue and he remembers. When a child all over, they’ve got the wrong guy. He gets charged with carrying a concealed stands up straight, opens doors for weapon for mistakenly bringing a women and says “Yes, sir” and “No, penknife to school, he takes note of who ma’am.” the local idiots are in education and law enforcement. He might be a Republican and he might be a Democrat; he might be a Libertarian He also votes, and the Angry White Man or a Green. He knows that his wife is loathes anyone who cannot give him a more emotional than rational, and he straight answer to an honest question, guides the family in a rational manner. or gives his hard earned tax dollars to people who refuse to do anything for He’s not a racist, but he is annoyed and themselves. There are many millions of disappointed when people of certain Angry White Men. Four million Angry backgrounds exhibit behavior that White Men are members of the National typifies the worst stereotypes of their Rifle Association, and all of them will race. He’s willing to give everybody a vote against crazy-assed Liberalism. Gary Hubbell fair chance if they work hard, play by the rules and learn English. We decided to grab a bite at the food court. I noticed he was watching a teenager sitting next to him. The teenager had spiked hair in all different colors: green, red, orange, and blue. My dad kept staring at him. The teenager would look and find him staring every time. When the teenager had enough, he sarcastically asked, ‘What’s the matter old man, never done anything wild in your life?’ Knowing my Dad, I quickly swallowed my food so that I would not choke on his response; knowing he would have a good one.
