News In Brief ...
Community
shows support for
firefighters
The Mountain Top commu-
nity once again has shown its
support for our volunteer firefighters.
When Mountain Top Hose
Company No. 1 launched its
2016 annual fund drive titled
“Turn It Around,” its goal was to
increase the number of donors
to the campaign. Since 2008,
the number of residents and
business owners contributing
to the campaign has dropped
slowly but steadily. In 2008,
over 1,000 donors contributed
to the drive. That number had
fallen to just over 800 in 2015.
“We are pleased to report that
our community has responded
to our message,” hose company president David Hourigan
reported. The fire department
already has received 51 more
donations that it did last year
totaling, $28,770 in contributions. “We are hoping this
trend continues and we can
achieve over 1,000 donors
again,” Hourigan offered.
Hourigan recognized the
generous support of longtime fire company supporter
Anneliese Moghul, who donated $2,000 to the fund drive.
“Anneliese has been a most
generous supporter of the fire
company, generously helping
us with our annual fund drive
and also as a major bazaar
sponsor,” Hourigan pointed
out.
The fire company president
also noted that in addition
to support of its annual fund
drive, the Mountain Top business community has been a
strong supporter of its annual
bazaar. “Nearly every business
in Mountain Top contributes to
the bazaar in some fashion,”
he related. “We appreciate the
business community’s support
of the bazaar.”

New this year was a team
competition. There were seven
teams of seven players each
vying for the bragging rights
of being the Team Champions.
Special privileges during summer football camp will also
be the “trophies” for the team
champs. A good ol’ Tug-O-War
decided the winning team.
Lance Blass was the Individual winner and will have
a second nameplate on the
Jeff Langin Memorial Ironman
Trophy.
Kyle Frisbie was named the
Top Lineman. Team Frisbie was
crowned the 2016 Team Champions. The grueling athletic
competition was held on June
3 on the Crestwood football
field.
On their way to becoming the Team Champions, Team Frisbie worked together to get the
job done. From back to front are Luis Castro,
Kyle Frisbie, Shane O’Rourke, Mark Snyder,

Crestwood changes
bus companies
The Mountain Top Bus Co.
has been awarded the contract
to transport students to and
from school for the next five
years. The switch will amount
to $460,000 in savings over
five years.
The current carrier, Rinehimer Bus Lines of Slocum
Crestwood Honor Roll

two years of the contract.
Testa named
wrestling coach at
Crestwood
At Crestwood’s recent school
board meeting, the board
appointed Darren Testa head
coach for the wrestling program. Testa replaces Gary Siegel.
Siegel’s reasons for leaving
the position include his long
drive from Tunkhannock every
day and seeing Testa’s willingness to coach. Siegel made his
decision in April.
Testa was head coach for the
team from 1995 to 2010 when
he stepped down.

St. Mary’s bazaar
St. Mary’s Catholic Church
in Dorrance held its annual
bazaar on Saturday, June 25
and Sunday, June 26. It featured homemade pierogi,
potato pancakes, pigs in a
blanket, funnel cakes and
much more. A bake sale was
held in the Parish hall both
days as well.
There were all sorts of fun
games for the children to
play. The adults had plenty
of baskets plus a John Deere
tractor and a pickup truck
filled with groceries to try
and win.

Hands-Only CPR class a must to learn
The Lehigh Valley Health
Center in Mountain Top hosted a hands-on CPR class on
Wednesday, June 22 beginning at 6 p.m. There were
approximately 15 adults and
young adults age 12 and up
who attended the class in order
to be prepared if the need ever
comes up.

to act during a cardiac emergency because they either do
not know how to administer
CPR or their training has significantly lapsed. Performing

suddenly collapse can more
than double their chance of
survival, the association said.
The class was taught by certified CPR instructors Laura
Jones, RN, MS, CNM and occu-
