8th LE MANS CLASSIC
TRACK OPEN ON FRIDAY
GROUP C SETS THE BALL ROLLING!
In 2002 Peter Auto with the Automobile Club de l’Ouest created Le Mans Classic, an event which, for the first
time, offered an incredible retrospective of the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours to lovers of exceptional cars. Right
from the start it was a big popular success and each subsequent staging has added to its renown. It has become a
must-see event, held every two years, eagerly awaited by public and participants alike. Since its creation this
meeting, which is a not-to-be-missed historic racing rendezvous, has registered an increase in the number of
spectators, and in 2014 it broke the 110 000 barrier for the first time! The public flocks to the paddock and lines
the trackside to admire the cars that have written the history of the Le Mans 24 Hours and celebrate the glory of
the motor car.
Four hundred and ninety cars, carefully selected by Peter Auto to provide variety and historic coherence in the six
grids covering the period 1923-1981, follow one another over 24 hours on the 13,629-km circuit usually reserved
for the famous Le Mans 24 Hours. Many of the cars have outstanding pedigrees and they recall famous duels on
the track where the names Arnage, the Mulsanne straight, Indianapolis, Mulsanne and Tertre Rouge, are redolent
of the battlefields on which they were fought.
The 2016 Le Mans Classic sees a major innovation as the on-track action will begin on Friday morning starting
with the parade of clubs. Then the noise and the speed will undergo a mega increase as the Group C Racing grid
takes to the track, a Grande Première at Le Mans Classic. It will be followed by the other six grids which will take
part in their respective qualifying sessions followed later on by their free night-time practice. Another innovation
in the races is the adoption of the Slow Zones created to avoid excessively long safety car interventions and give
racing priority while ensuring the safety of technicians/marshals during race incidents (80 km/h maximum in the
neutralised zone).
Finally, a Jaguar Classic Challenge race regrouping XK,C, D, E-Type, Mk 1, Mk II and Mk VIII Jaguars will also be on the
programme. In this grid, Briton Andy Wallace (19 Le Mans 24-Hours starts including a victory in 1988 in a Jaguar XJR9LM) will drive the D-Type (chassis XKD 505), which, in the hands of Mike Hawthorn-Ivor Bueb, won the tragic 1955
Le Mans 24 Hours.
Once again the clubs that are welcomed in the very heart of the event will find themselves in a choice setting. In
the 2014 Le Mans Classic 8500 cars representing 180 clubs and 60 makes invaded the interior of the circuit. A
number of them took advantage of the occasion to do a lap of the track putting on an incredible parade
applauded by the crowd.
Among the other highlights of the meeting is the prestigious Concours Le Mans Heritage Club, which comprises
24 cars that have taken part in the Le Mans 24 Hours between 1923 and today, an homage to Ligier with several
JS1 and JS2s present, the FFVE Special Exhibition at Le Mans Classic 2016 : « The racing teams’ transporters » - a
first -, the Artcurial auction with 115 exceptional cars coming under the hammer, and Little Big Mans in which
around a hundred miniature cars in the hands of budding drivers aged between 6 and 10 do a lap of the Bugatti
circuit after a Le Mans-type start. And of course added to all this will be a raft of exhibitors and shows that will
plunge the paddock into another era.

ON TRACK
GROUP C RACING KICKS OFF THE 2016 EVENT!
This year’s Le Mans Classic will be the theatre of a grand première when almost 50 Group C Racing cars take to
the track for two qualifying sessions (Friday) and a 45-minute race on Saturday as a curtain-raiser to the 8th
event. Peter Auto and the ACO, organisers of the retrospective of the Le Mans 24 Hours, decided to add the
Group C era from 1982 to 1993 to the period 1923 – 1979 to complete the coverage of the history of this
legendary race.
The Group C regulations led to the production of fabulous cars which wrote some of the most glorious pages in
the history of the Le Mans 24 Hours and the World Endurance Championship. Early on, the Porsche 956s
dominated despite stiff opposition from the Lancia LC2s, and then in 962 configuration came up against much
tougher rivals with the arrival of Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Nissan and Mazda. Alongside the major
manufacturers small constructors like Cougar, Dome, Rondeau, Spice and WM could still pull off the odd coup
thanks to an intelligent interpretation of the regulations based essentially on fuel consumption. Group C was
abandoned in the early 90s after a brief cohabitation with the Sport 3.5s (Peugeot 905, Jaguar XJR-14, Toyota
TS010, etc.), but that era is still considered as the Golden Age of endurance racing by the majority of the
specialists of this branch of motor sport.
The Group C cars are modern looking with their rounded windscreens and their doors in elytron, and they exert
an incredible fascination on all generations of fans with performances that are not too far off those of the
current crop of LMP prototypes as their top speed was way north of 300 km/h! On Friday 8th and Saturday 9th
July, a grid comprising the most beautiful Group Cs will be back on their favourite playing field in front of their
dyed-in-the-wool aficionados, who are only too delighted to be able to see these endurance icons back in action
on the track.
The Group C Racing grid, which has recently come under the wing of Peter Auto, will feature in four other events
run by the organisation: the new Jarama-Classic (1-3 April), Spa-Classic (13-15 May), the Grand Prix de l’Age d’Or
(3-5 June), Silverstone Classic (29-31 July, not organised by Peter Auto) and the Dix Mille Tours (1-2 October).
Track time:
Qualifying: 2 x 45mn (Friday at 12:00 & 20h05)
Race: 1 x 45mn (Saturday at 11:45)

ON TRACK
SIX GRIDS FOR 24 HOURS OF ON-TRACK ACTION
As the aim is to offer spectators and entrants equally-matched fields in terms of performance and historic pertinence,
the 490 racing cars are divided up into six grids, each of which corresponds to a particular period. The cars selected
are those that have taken part in the Le Mans 24 Hours between 1923 and 1981. Priority is given to cars that have
actually raced in the event in their particular era. For each grid 10 reserves take part in the day and night-time
practice sessions to be ready to fill a place left vacant by the withdrawal or retirement of another car. A Le Mans-type
start as used between 1925 and 1969 will be given for grids 1-2-3-4. Flying starts will be used for the others.
GRID 1 (1923-1939) (65 cars)
Models representing famous makes which shone on the Le Mans circuit in the pre-war
era are back on the scene of their exploits. These include Alfa Romeo 8Cs, 2-litre Speed
Aston Martins, 4.5-l Bentleys, BMW 328s, Bugatti 35s, 37s and 51s, Invicta S and the LG
45 and V12 Le Mans Lagonda and several works Talbot 105s representing the make’s
entry for the race in successive years. Among the numerous models entered is an Ulster
Aston Martin that finished eighth in 1935, an ex-works 3-litre Speed Bentley from 1925,
the 1932 Citroën C4 Roadster, the make’s only entry in the Le Mans 24 Hours, the Delage
D6-70 Special, 4th overall and 1st in its category in 1937, an ex-offset single-seater Lago
Talbot, which raced in the 1941, 1946 and 1947 Indianapolis 500 Miles, and then went
on to finish second in the 1950 Le Mans 24 Hours. Over the years this grid has been
enriched by lesser-known cars that are very interesting from an historical point of view:
MG Magnette K3, Morgan 4/4, Brooklands Riley, Singer Le Mans, HRG 1500 and a 1938
Peugeot 402 Darl’mat. Overall, this grid presents a wide variety of makes and models
transforming it into an unprecedented retrospective of this period.
GRID 2 (1949-1956) (75 cars)
The post-war period marked a turning point in car technology with better developed engines and more attention
paid to aerodynamics. The result was faster cars entered by increasingly professional works teams. Henceforth, the
on-track battles between entrants were much closer. It’s this
epoch that the drivers in this grid at the wheel of Aston Martin
DBs, Jaguar C, D and XKs, Maserati 300 S and A6 GCSs, Austin
Healey 100 Ms, Lancia Aurelias, Lotus IX and XIs, Porsche 356s and
Triumph TR2s, are out to revive. Among the cars one in particular
stands out, the D-Type Jaguar that won the 1955 Le Mans 24
Hours in the hands of British drivers Mike Hawthorn and Ivor
Bueb. This year it will be driven by a real Le Mans 24-Hours
specialist, Andy Wallace victorious in the Sarthe in 1988 in a
Jaguar XJR-9LM. In 1951 and 1953 the race was won by C-Type
Jaguars, two of which will also be on the grid.
GRID 3 (1957-1961) (75 cars)
AC Ace Bristols, Aston Martin DB4 GTs, Austin
Healey 3000s, DB HBRs, Chevrolet Corvette C1s, a
Cooper Monaco T49, Ferrari 250 GT Berlinettas,
Lister Jaguars, a horde of Lotus XIs, XVs, Elite, a
Maserati 300 S, MGAs, Morgan+4, an Osca 1600
GT Zagato, Panhard CDs, Porsche 356 A, B and
550 Spyders, a Tojero Climax and a Triumph TR3
make up the core of grid 3. Among cars to watch
out for the spectators is the unique Lister Jaguar
‘‘Flat Iron’’ from 1958, the famous Ferrari 250 GT
Breadvan from 1961, a rare Peerless GT, which
won its class in 1958, a Deep Sanderson 301, an
ex-Le Mans 1958 MGA Twin Cam as well as a Triumph TR3S from 1959, only three of which were built by the
factory in this specific configuration.
GRID 4 (1962-1965) (75 cars)
This grid illustrates the increase in the number of America-built cars entered for the Sarthe event as it includes
several GT40s, Shelby Cobra 289s Shelby GT 350s and Chevrolet Corvette C1s & C2s. Among these are numerous
ex-Le Mans GT40s and the unique GT40 roadster. In the pack of Cobra 289s, Michel Lecourt’s car will be one to
follow as it has racked up an impressive set of results in endurance racing. Back in that era the main opposition to
the American cars came from European machines and it is again the case in 2016. Leading the charge is Ferrari
with a 250 LM, winner of the Sebring 12 Hours in 1964 and several 275 GTBs. There are also E-Type Jaguars
including chassis 49 FXN, the low-drag special built as part of the run of 12 lightweight cars produced in 1963.
Porsche will be represented by numerous
models including several 904/6 GTSs. Three
Alpines will also be present two of which are
M63s (the first car developed by the Dieppe
firm for sports car racing), plus an M65 for the
irrepressible Jean Ragnotti. Simca Abarths,
Alfa Romeo TZs, Mini Marcos GTs, a René
Bonnet Djet and a rare Elva GT 160 will add to
the variety of this grid.
GRID 5 (1966-1971) (75 cars)
Amateurs and specialists alike will be
delighted by the entry of numerous cars
having raced in the Le Mans 24 Hours. These
include two Alfa Romeo T33s, a T33/2
Daytona 1968 and T33/3, a model that
finished fourth in 1972 driven by Nino
Vaccarella-Andrea de Adamich. Also racing
is a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Spider NART 1972, an
ex-Le Mans 312 P from 1969 and a Daytona
Gr. IV. Representing the Alpine name is an
A210 (a model that won its category at Le
Mans from 1966 to 1969), and an A220 built to clinch outright victory, but which failed to do so. Other entries
include 906, 908 and 910 Porsches, plus B8, B16, B19 and B21 Chevrons and T70, T210 and T212 Lolas.
GRID 6 (1972-1981) (75 cars)
This is the most modern grid in Le Mans Classic and its period has been extended by two years from 1979 to
1981 to bridge the gap to Group C. It comprises a number of models that marked their epoch starting with the
A443 which was part of the last generation of prototypes designed by Renault in that era in its battle for victory
in the 24 Hours against its main rival, Porsche. The A443 will again be driven by Jean Ragnotti. The 1976 Inaltera,
the first prototype designed by Jean Rondeau, is also on the entry list with Henri Pescarolo and Julien Beltoise
(whose father was one of the team’s works drivers at the time) at the wheel. Rondeau will be represented by an
M378, which finished ninth overall in 1978 winning the GTP category. This car holds the record for the highest
number of starts in the Sarthe (10). Another car that will attract a lot of attention is the Gulf Mirage M6 that
won the Spa 1000 km in 1973. Former cars from the very popular NASCAR Championship a Ford Gran Torino and
a Dodge Charger as well as a Chevrolet Monza, Porsche’s great rival in IMSA, will add the distinctive thunder of
their big V8s to the music! Other entries include
five Ferrari 512 BB LMs, the Moynet LM 75 and
several Porsches including 924s and 935s plus
BMW M1s and 3.0 CSLs, B31, B36 Chevrons, T290,
T292, T298 Lolas and the De Cadenet T380.
ON TRACK
TEN FORMER WINNERS WILL BE COMPETING!
Le Mans Classic gives spectators a unique opportunity to see the cars that took
part in the Le Mans 24 Hours between 1923 and 1993. And not only that, as
many drivers use the event to get back behind the wheel.
Of the ten former winners down to race, the man with the highest number of
victories is Emanuele Pirro, five-time winner of the race with Audi (2000, 2001,
2002, 2006 and 2007). The popular Italian has been a regular member of the
Peter Auto grids and in the Sarthe he will be driving an Alfa Romeo T33/3
(1969), a Lola T290 (1972) and a Lancia Beta Gr.V (1979). Out on the track he
may come across his former team-mate, Marco Werner, three-time winner of
the Le Mans 24 Hours, who is also entered to drive three different cars: a Lotus
IX (1955), a Maserati T63 Birdcage (1961) and a Maserati A6 GCS Barchetta
(1954). Current works Porsche driver Romain Dumas, first in the 2010 race in an
Audi and first again in 2016 in a Porsche, will compete in Group C Racing with a
Porsche 962C.
In homage to his father Jean-Pierre who died last year, Julien Beltoise will race
in grid 6 with Henri Pescarolo who holds the record for the number of
participations (33) in the same Inaltera that he drove with Jean-Pierre in 1976.
Another driver who spearheaded the Matra attack in the early 70s, Gérard
Larrousse, the current president of the Drivers’ Club, is back at the wheel of a
Porsche 550 Spyder (1958). Eric Hélary, a hero of Peugeot’s historic triple in
1993 will share his time between a Chevrolet Corvette C3 (1970), a Lancia Beta
Gr.V (1979) and an Alfa Romeo T 33 TT (1971).
Andy Wallace, who won the race in 1988 in a Jaguar, remains faithful to the
Coventry make as he will be at the wheel of a D-Type (1955). The Englishman is
among the drivers who have raced in the event on multiple occasions with 19
starts. But his former team-mate in 1988 Jan Lammers from Holland, entered in
an Austin Healey 3000, has racked up more starts than Wallace as he has 22 to
his name, the same score as Emmanuel Collard who is racing in the Le Mans 24
Hours for the 22nd time this year. At Le Mans Classic he will be tackling the long
circuit in a Porsche 908/3 (1971) and a 911 Turbo RSR (1974).
Other outright winners Jochen Mass (1989) and Gijs van Lennep (1971 and
1976 are back in a De Tomaso Pantera Gr. IV (1971), a Porsche 911 RSR 3L
(1974) and a Porsche 908 LH (1968) respectively. A number of class winners will
also be on the grid including Casper Elgaard, first in the LM P2 category in 2009,
in a 1964 Porsche 904 as well as John Fitzpatrick, Ralf Kelleners and Uwe Alzen,
all victorious at the wheel of Porsche 911s (1975, 1996 and 1999 respectively),
who remain faithful to the Stuttgart make. Double Grand Touring winner,
Raymond Narac, is at the wheel of a prototype, a Group C Porsche 962 (1987).
Many other well-known figures who have raced in the Le Mans 24 Hours are
expected like David Halliday (BMW 3.0 CSL), Jean Ragnotti (Alpine M 65, Renault
Alpine A443), Paul Belmondo (Ford GT 40), Soheil Ayari, Chris Mac Allister, Eric
De Doncker, Gareth Evans, Roald Goethe, Lucien Guitteny, Stuart Hall, Sam
Hancock, David Hart, Hans Hugenholtz, Wolfgang Kaufmann, Patrice Lafargue,
Franck Lagorce, Michel Lecourt, Erik Maris, Jean-Marc Merlin, Jacques Nicolet,
Martin O'Connell, François Perrodo, Christian Pescatori, Frédéric Da Rocha,
Lucien Rossiaud, Alain Serpaggi, John Sheldon, Pierre de Thoisy, etc.
Emanuele Pirro, five victories
Romain Dumas, two victories
Henri Pescarolo, four victories
Gérard Larrousse, two victories
Paul Belmondo, ten participations

THE CLUBS
The many makes and multi-make clubs are key players and also guardians of the heritage of the motor car so
they enjoy a choice welcome at Le Mans Classic. This event held every two years is a unique gathering in Europe
and it welcomes more than 8500 cars from over 180 clubs representing some 60 makes. Pre-1966 vehicles in an
impeccable state are allowed into the Espace Clubs as well as some more recent models - The Happy Few – that
have already achieved classic status.
Among the anniversaries celebrated at Le Mans in 2016 is BMW’s centenary and 150 cars (pre-and post-war)
including 50 M models bearing the famous blue and white badge will take part in a Parade of Honour. It’s a
rendezvous that the BMW clubs (BMW Club de France, BMW M Club de France BMW Horizon 2002, BMW Z3
Club de Franc, BMW Z1 Club de France) will not miss.
The 50th anniversary of Ford’s first victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours with the GT40 will be celebrated with a big
exhibition devoted to this legendary car (50 Ford GT40s and 30 Ford GTs).
Among the clubs that have already confirmed their presence are the French Alfa Romeo Club, AC France,
l’Amicale XJ, Aston Martin Owners Club France, Great Britain and Luxembourg, the Bentley Drivers Club, Healey
Drivers Club, the Hotchkiss Club, the Jag Club, the Jaguar Drivers Club E-Type Register, the Jensen Owners Club,
the Porsche Clubs’ Federation, Renault Classic, the Talbot Owners Club and the French TVR Car Club, the Viper
Passion Club and the 289 Register. The multimarque clubs include Vincennes en Anciennes, l’Amicale des Vieux
Carbus, les Belles Mécaniques d’Autrefois and La Nostalgie des Vieux Volants.
Back again is the Super Car Club enclosure devoted to the most beautiful modern GTs, around 100 of which will be
on display. These include the One 77 Aston Martin, DB9, Bugatti Veyron, La Ferrari, Ferrari F12 TDF and the Ferrari
599 GTO, Lamborghini Adventador, McLaren MP4-12C, Mercedes SLS AMG, Nissan GT-R, Pagani Huayra, etc).
The parade for the clubs will give owners the opportunity to do a lap of the 13,629-km circuit and set off down
the famous Mulsanne straight, which they had dreamed of driving on one day.
Finally, the Retro Spirit Dress Code will be integrated into the Grand Prix des Clubs. It will count for up to 50% of
the marks awarded by the jury comprising in particular, the FFVE (French Historic Vehicles Federation) and the
FIVA (International Historic Vehicles Federation).
In 2014, 18 000 people and some 15 nationalities were in the Espace Clubs. Beating this figure in 2016 is Peter
Auto’s aim!
LE MANS HERITAGE CLUB
Another highlight of the event takes place in the most private of clubs, the prestigious Concours Le Mans
Heritage Club where 24 cars hand-picked from those having taken part in Le Mans from 1923 up till today, will
be on display. Among the selected cars is a Talbot 105 which raced in the event in 1931, an Aston Martin Ulster
entered for Le Mans in 1934, a Frazer Nash Sebring that competed in the Sarthe in 1955 and 1957, the Ford
GT40 which won the 1966 race, a Lola T600 (which, thanks to aerodynamicist Max Sardou, was one of the first
sports cars to use ground effect), the Porsche GT1 (Boutsen/Wollek/Stuck) that was battling for victory in the
1997 event before being forced to retire less than eight hours from the finish. The 24 cars will do a lap of honour
giving the crowd a glimpse of some of the most exceptional machines that have written the history of this event
over almost a century.

FFVE SPECIAL EXHIBITION
THE RACING TEAMS’ TRANSPORTERS
The French Historic Vehicles Federation (F.F.V.E.) and
Peter Auto are joining forces this year at Le Mans to pay
homage to race team transporters. It’s the first-ever
exhibition of this type at Le Mans Classic.
This exhibition, which follows the one devoted to French
coachbuilders in 2014, is the fruit of Le Mans Classic’s
aim to highlight these vehicles that have played a crucial
role in the history of motor sport, as they have been
overshadowed for far too long by great cars, great drivers
and great makes. Without these transporters no cars
would have arrived at the circuit and there would have
been no race, and no stories! To celebrate the homage paid to them all the transporters in the exhibition will do
a lap of the track and put on a parade on the big Sarthe circuit on Saturday 9th July.
Around 10 transporters are expected and eight have already confirmed their presence: Alpine, BRM, Ecurie
Ecosse, Ferrari, Ford Cobra, Gordini, Ligier and Porsche Gulf.
LITTLE BIG MANS
Little Big Mans was a great success when it was held at Le Mans Classic for the first time in 2008. It is on the
programme again this year with Alain Figaret providing clothing for all the budding drivers. On Saturday 9th July
in the early afternoon around 100 miniature cars in the hands of youngsters aged between 6 and 10 will set off
for a lap of the Bugatti circuit after a Le Mans-type start. On Sunday, the youngsters will get back behind the
wheel to do a tour of the Le Mans Classic village. This event, which is great fun for young and old alike, will end
with a prize giving ceremony in the village.
The cars, produced in limited numbers or as one-offs, are powered by
an internal combustion or electric engine and, for the most part, are
faithful replicas of cars that have raced in the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Among them are several Ferrari 330/P2s, Ford GT 40s, Gran Torinos
and Shelbys, Chevrolet Corvettes, BMW 328s, Type 35 and 55 Bugattis,
55, Porsche 550s and 936s, a D-Type Jaguar, an Aston Martin Volante
and Morgan Three-Wheelers.
THE VILLAGE
The village is at the heart of this huge long weekend meeting and it’s where all kinds of chance encounters take place.
There people meet up, say goodbye only to run into one another again later on. You can stroll around the different
exhibition areas and admire the beautiful cars in the Le Mans Heritage Club, the race team transporters,
manufacturers’ exhibitions, boutiques, etc. The Welcome in the centre of the village is the hub for those who have
decided to enjoy a VIP weekend at Le Mans Classic. At every moment there are new discoveries to be made and
various forms of entertainment to be enjoyed with parades, prize givings, etc. It’s the place to be!
ENTERTAINMENT
In 2016, Le Mans Classic has refined its selection of entertainment and has again installed a Drive-In cinema in
which several major classic films with the motor car as the main star will be shown. Many other forms of
entertainment will be on hand like the Demon Drome, sixties-style dancers, itinerant orchestras, retro
hairdressing salons, bowling pitches, a show by the Police & Patrimoine, Republican Garde brigades on their
period motorbikes, tours in old buses and the exhibition devoted to the Nationale 7.
OPEN-AIR CINEMA
THE DRIVE-IN
Who has never dreamed of going to a Drive-in, the famous open-air cinemas? The fashion from the United
States combined the two major national industries: the motor car and the cinema. Le Mans Classic, the huge
festival of the motor car in all its forms, revives this ambience!
The portable screen will be installed in a zone beside the
famous Dunlop Footbridge. Spectators can sit in Fiat 124
Spiders, Fiat Abarths, Fiat 500 Ss or on a comfortable deck
chair; they will be given an audio headset so as not to be
disturbed by the sound of the cars out on the circuit.
On Friday at 22:00: Fast and Furious, then Rush.
On Saturday at 22:00: Return to the Future, then The Man
and Le Mans.
DRESS CODE
Fans of the fifties, sixties and seventies, this is the ideal occasion to don your best outfits from the era that really
appeals to you. This way the spectators can also become actors in the event and participate in the ambience of
Le Mans Classic like the club members, the race teams, many regulars and the staff in the organisation.

driven by Auguste Veuillet and Edmond Mouche. It is the only example to retain its
original body! Aficionados will find themselves dreaming in front of the machine that was
raced by such distinguished names as Philippe Etancelin, Maurice Trintignant and Charles Pozzi, whose bravery

1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta #2917GT
Presented new at the 1961 Paris Motor Show, this has to be the last 250 GT SWB to have
been in the hands of the same owner for the last half century! Considered by many to be
the most beautiful Ferrari ever, this example is one of three fitted from new with Solex
carburettors ; it is a matching numbers car (chassis/engine/gearbox/axle). It has never left
France, and comes with continuous history and is presented in outstanding condition!
1977 Porsche 935 – Estimate: 1 100 000 – 1 500 000 €
This 935 is exceptional in more ways than one. It is a genuine racing Porsche in
outstanding original condition that has competed three times in the world’s greatest
motor race, Le Mans 24 Hours. Several great drivers took to the wheel to compete in the
World Endurance Championships in 1978 and 1979. In 1980 auctioneer Hervé Poulain
competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours Race in this car, finishing 20th. This outstanding provenance ensures the car is
eligible for Le Mans Classic.

COMPETITION
490 cars, which have in common the fact that they took part in the Le Mans 24 Hours between
1923 et 1981, divided into 6 grids according to the period.
New: Group C sets the ball rolling + the Jaguar Classic Challenge
The starting order of the grids remains unchanged. The first will be grid 1. The start of the event
will be given on Saturday at 16h with the finish on Sunday at 16h. A dummy Le Mans-type start
will precede the formation lap for grids 1, 2, 3 on Saturday, and for grid 4 on Sunday. As a full 24Hours endurance race would be too demanding on the older cars, the drivers compete in 3 heats
- day and night – for each grid in succession. As in the previous events the drivers form teams
with a car in each of the grids.
NATIONALITIES
Drivers from 20 different nationalities will take part in the 2014 Le Mans Classic.
CLUBS
The Clubs will again receive a privileged welcome at Le Mans Classic. The Makes’ Clubs’ enclosure
will host the cars gathered together by manufacturer while individual cars will be placed in the
Collection enclosure.
The Le Mans Heritage Club is reserved for 24 cars having raced in the Le Mans 24 Hours between
1923 and today. There will be a concours for them and they will do a lap of the track.

Over 120 exhibitors will be in the village including artists and Automobilia specialists. The Le
Mans Heritage Club will be in the centre of the village. Beside it will be the Supercars enclosure
with the most beautiful examples of our era on display.

LE MANS CLASSIC 2016 OFF TO A ROARING START JULY 8TH WITH
RICHARD MILLE
This 8th edition of the Le Mans Classic will take place July 8th through 10th on the renowned Bugatti circuit
under the colours of Maison Richard Mille, principal partner and official timekeeper for the competition.
The Le Mans Classic brings to life over 80 years of automobile racing history, welcoming the cars and
drivers responsible for the legendary standing of the world’s most famous race. The 2016 edition will begin
straight away on Friday, with the opening act: Group C Racing, a tremendous first for this competition.
This retrospective of past Le Mans 24 Hours, which attracted over 110,000 people for the 2014 edition,
is also an opportunity to attend one of the world’s largest gatherings of exceptional vehicles, bringing
together 60 carmakers represented by 160 automobile clubs for a total of 8,000 cars. These will all convene
around the circuit, and a few will take advantage of the occasion to go for a spin around the track for the
amazing parade, accompanied by cheers from the public.
A partner of the event since its inception in 2002, Richard Mille celebrates the Le Mans Classic by creating
a new watch for each edition of the race. This year, the brand will unveil the RM 11-02 Le Mans Classic, an
automatic calibre in grade 5 titanium incorporating a variable-geometry rotor, annual calendar, UTC display,
24-hour flyback chronograph and countdown feature. The RM 11-02 Le Mans Classic bears the colours of the
historic competition not only on the movement, but also on its white ATZ ceramic caseband and the rubber
collar of its NTPT carbon crown.
From the design of its pushers, whose grooves recall the surface of vintage pedals, to the meticulously
precision-machined crown reminiscent of a clutch mechanism by way of its baseplate, ribbed like an engine
crankcase, the RM 11-02, a limited edition of 150 pieces, is imbued with a passion for automobiles. As a
final reminder of the historic race, the Le Mans Classic logo appears on the dial at 12 o’clock along with the
number ‘16’, an allusion to the start time of the endurance race.
