Be sure to mark your calendars for these events. All the schools in the Bend-La Pine Schools are currently working on our long range school design plans (next 3-5 years), with the focus on preparing our students for their future, thriving in all aspects of life, and achieving academic success. We are excited about the direction we will be taking with Service Project Based Learning, mathematics, and building community connections within the school family to name a few things on which we will be focusing our work. In early spring, we will be giving parents an opportunity to be involved in the process as well. Look for more information about this great opportunity. We want to remind parents how important school attendance is for your child. If a child is here less than 90% of the time, h/she is considered chronically absent. At this time of the year, chronically absent students have missed about 9 days of school. Currently, 14% of our students are chronically absent. When they are not here, they are missing out on important class discussions, questions, and opportunities for practice. I know that illness play a factor, but many absences do not. Please support your child’s education and seeing that they are here on time every day. Thank you for your support! Important Contact Information Cheers! If your phone number, address, place of employment or emergency contacts has changed, please let us know. Accurate information helps us contact you if your child is sick or injured or if the teacher needs to get a hold of you quickly. Call 541-355-2900 or stop by the office to update your information! As of the end of 2015 our volunteers have logged a total of 615 hours assisting in our school! Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you! From the classroom to the office, from the book fair to classroom parties you have helped so much! The staff at Silver Rail wants to express our gratitude to all of you that have logged hours so far this year! We appreciate you! If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the background check at https://volunteer.bend.k12.or.us/. We LOVE the support! If your student is attending Silver Rail on an area change request, you will need to complete a new area change request for next school year to remain at Silver Rail. Please stop by the office and complete this prior to March 1st. If you have any questions regarding boundaries, or area change requests, please see Angie in the front office. Speaking of next school year. Kindergarten registration is right around the corner. To register for kindergarten, children must be 5 years old on or before Sept 1, 2016. Parents will need child’s birth certificate, proof of address and immunization information to enroll their student. If you are planning on having your kindergartener attend a school outside of their boundary area, again you will need to complete an area change request prior to March 1st. Additional Resources Our school has a new website that is mobile-friendly and easy to search. We will be using this new tool to highlight events and celebrate our students. The site features handy tools for parents on a Parent Dashboard and a Student Dashboard for students.
