also have other services and free time activities at their disposal
such as visiting the dormitory gym, playing table tennis, playing
board games or using footballs or basketballs and playing on

In summer they can also borrow grill.

If you are staying in the Czech Republic over the summer, the
dormitory council is allowing students to use a summer storage
room, where you can store your belongings which you don’t wish
to take home and have no use for over the course of summer.
They can be stored at dorm and used in the next semester for a
small fee of 20 CZK/piece over the whole summer.

Trash
What to do with trash?
Differently to dormitories in Jižní Město everyone must take their
trash out themselves. There were collective, separate bins for
plastics, paper and glass in every hallway, they were against
the safety regulations. Now days everyone must take their trash
outside to the big trash containers.
Where are the containers?
They are by the main entrance of dormitory Jarov I.D.
Considering the effects that recycling has on the environment
we would like to urge everyone to sort their trash and put it in
respective trash containers.
How to recycle?
For those of you who have not experienced recycling. There are
five basic containers, for each type of trash. They are usually
easily discernible by color as shown below.
Each color represents the type of trash:
Plastics
Paper
Glass
Drink containers (special type of paper)
Communal waste (other trash)
More details can be found online.
18
Free time
What to do in free time?
Sport - outside
Playfield behind the dormitories
Three playfields are open at all times unless there is a special
training. Thanks to the installed lights it’s possible to play from
08:00am to 10:00pm. Field reservation is made at reception in
the nearby VŠE building. Few basketballs and footballs can be
borrowed at the reception of dormitory Jarov I.D. The field can
be used for other sport related activities also.
Inline skating
In case you are a fan roller-skating there are a lot of options to
choose from. One which is very close to the dormitory is at the
station Krejcárek, where you can go to inline designated trail.
In case you want to experience more scenic, longer and more
difficult trail, go and visit the trail close to the Prague Zoo. You
can start in Trója or Podolí in direction of Zbraslav.
Jogging
If jogging is what you like there are several options you can
choose from. Many students choose to run in the parks close
to school such as Vítkovský park (very nice view of Prague) or
Malešický park. In case you want to go farther and into bigger
parks try Stromovka, Letná or Ladronka.
19
Walking
If walking is what you like and prefer, there are even more
options. You can of course pick from any of the above locations.
If you prefer something more romantic visit Petřín and the close
by areas with small waterfall. Or visit the Prague Zoo or Botanical
garden and their surroundings, which are very nice in all seasons
of the year (winter included).
Sport - inside
Courts
Closes courts to Jarov are Na Balkáně, in case you don’t have
a car you have to walk, its not very far though. You can play
badminton or tennis. Other courts can be found on the way to
school on Olšanské náměstí (square) in hotel Olšanka, it is right
across the public transport station. Other courts are close to the
Malešický Park.
Fitness
If fitness and going to gym is what you prefer, you are in luck.
There is a large amount of gyms around the dormitories.
For these I would suggest using Google and looking through the
websites / pictures until you find something you like.
The closest gym is http://www.energyfitnesspraha.cz/.
If you wish to work out in a group we would suggest going to the
studio Euforia, which is by the O2 building on the way to school.
20
Swimming
There aren’t many swimming pools in the area. Well to be exact
only one. It is on Pražačka (http://www.prazacka.cz/). If you really
enjoy swimming we would suggest visiting Podolí, Šutka or the
swimming pool in Výstaviště Holešovice (Expo Holešovice), which
is cheapest.
Culture
Czech Republic has rich cultural history and Prague being
its center is possible the best place to experience the Czech
culture, although mixed with others.
Saying this there is not many options near to the dormitories,
not counting the nearby restaurants, which there are many of.
Nonetheless we have to mention among students very popular
cinema Aero, located close to the station Biskupcova, it is not
your usual cinema, but i suggest you try it at least once. There is
a lot of modern multiplex cinemas around Prague, closest one is
probably the cinema Flora.
There is countless amount of other things you can do in Prague.
Visiting one of the many theaters, expos, concerts, parties,
museums or just going sightseeing is great way of spending some
of your time here in Prague.
There are few websites that will help you find out what you can
do in Prague.
http://www.cokdyvpraze.cz/
http://goout.cz/cs/
http://www.zakulturou.cz
21
You can also experience the culture thanks to the cultural
program of VŠE and its students. There are few clubs for example
the VŠE Film club, group Musica Oeconomica Pragensis, ESN VŠE
PRAHA Buddy System or Business IT club.
22
Restaurants, bars, clubs
Club restaurant Juve
Juve is bar located in the area of Jarov I. In block B. Clientele
of this club given the location are mostly students Czech and
foreign. Bar is very loud, so if you want to have a beer & some
food this is not a great place to go to. Nonetheless if loud
environments and a lot of students is what you like than this
place is the place for you. In warm weather there is also an
outside area.
Entrance is from the street Koněvova.
Opening hours:
Sunday – Friday:
3:00pm – 2:00am
Saturday:
5:00pm – 2:00am
Restaurant U Študáka
If you enjoy restaurants and bars that are not so loud as Juve, this
is great place to visit, you can also have reasonably priced lunch
menu, in case you don’t want to cook.
The name (u študáka = students restaurant) suggests that it’s
mainly a student’s bar, it is not. You won’t find many students
here. Most of the guests are locals, some people might find that
enjoyable. There is also, much like in Juve an outside part of this
restaurant (in warm weather).
23
Restaurace se nachází v blízkosti tramvajové zastávky Strážní.
Restaurant is close to the tram station Strážní.
Opening hours:
Monday – Friday:
10:00am – 11:00pm
Saturday - Sunday: 11:00am – 11:00pm
Restaurant U Lampiček
This restaurant is very quiet; it is easily recognizable by the 1000l
aquarium inside the restaurant. It is much quieter than both
previously mentioned places. It is great place for a date or just
for an quiet enjoyable dinner.
Restaurant is close to the tram station Strážní, opposite to the
restaurant U Študáka.

this is the place.
Music club Nová Chmelnice is not regularly open, its dependent
on the scheduled events. List of events is announced on their
website. Most of the events is rock, metal or punk themed.
Occasionally there is proper, student’s favorite party called
Nation 2 Nation (which as name suggest is meant to have
24
students from different countries meet up and have fun).
Website: http://www.novachmelnice.cz/
School canteen Jarov
If you want to eat as cheap as possible, but you also don’t want
to eat just a sandwich, you can visit the school canteens. School
canteens are not limited to the main VŠE building. There are
many others, one is even in the Jarov school area. Quick food
(in Czech minutky) is served also.
School canteen is located in a building close to the dormitory
entrance of Jarov III. G.

25
Grocery Shopping
Kaufland
For a normal shopping / smart price wise shopping and you don’t
mind traveling few tram stops, shopping in this store is suggested.
Its similar to Walmart / Tesco and other stores.
Kaufland is closeby to the bus / tram station Spojovací.

Lidl
Lidl is alternative to Kaufland. It is smaller, similarly priced shop.

smaller shopping (smaller choice of goods and higher prices)

various spreads (cheese, garlic etc.) here and some finger food.
Fresh everyday as advertised.
Deli is close to the station Strážní, opposite of the dormitory
buildings.
Open:
Monday - Sunday: 07:00am - 10:00pm
Vietnamese deli
Few buildings down from the Deli is a Vietnamese deli.
Compared to the previously mentioned Deli they don’t sell
spreads and finger food. Instead they have a lot of fresh
vegetables and other various groceries. Prices are similar to deli,
maybe a bit higher.
Open:
Monday - Sunday: 07:00am - 10:00pm
Dormitory store
Dormitories have own store that supplies basic groceries and
hygiene products. On the other hand, when you are hungry or in
need of toothpaste or other basic things and don’t have much
time, or don’t want to travel far, this is the place to go to. Prices
are similar to both Delis. Although you can buy discounted
27
sandwiches and baguettes, much like in any part of the school.
