Life in the Alps
While studying in Switzerland, you will experience the very
best this incredible country has to offer. You will be living and
travelling in our stunning mountain landscapes and picturesque
rural settings. You will discover our unique French, German and
Italian cultural influences, and taste incredible flavors – from the
world’s finest chocolates to our unique cheeses.
There is plenty for your parents to appreciate about Switzerland too. With low crime rates and political
stability, fresh clean air and a reputation for reliability, they can rest assured that you will be safe and
comfortable.
Our excellent transport links make it easy for you to travel home or further afield. You can fly to almost
anywhere in western Europe in less than two hours from Geneva airport, and there are extensive
intercontinental connections via Zurich, Paris and London. We also have one of the most modern
railway systems in the world, connecting you quickly and easily to the rest of Europe.
Most importantly, the concept of hospitality has its roots in Switzerland. Our strong
work ethos, attention to detail, skill in managing a diverse workforce and genuine
affinity for service has given us an unrivalled reputation in the industry.
Studying in the heart of our country, you’ll be in the perfect place to grow
and develop into a young professional.

welcome
to the home of Les Roches
Crans-Montana, situated only 10 minutes from the Les Roches campus, is
known as the panoramic terrace of the Alps, providing breathtaking views
from the simplon across to the Matterhorn.
Nestled in the heart of the Alps at an altitude of 1,500m, Crans-Montana is a modern, fashionable
ski resort. It is located in the southwest of the country on a plateau high above the Rhone Valley and
French is the official language, although English is widely spoken. There are two neighboring villages
here: sophisticated Crans where you can shop in designer stores and relax in charming cafes, and
Montana where you can ski and trek.
If you are a fan of sports and the great outdoors, the area is perfect for hiking and mountain biking in
the summer. The Omega European Masters is held at the spectacular golf course, which was designed
by Seve Ballesteros and Jack Nicklaus. In winter, there are ski runs for every level of expertise, and
other sports activities include sledging, snow biking and paragliding.
You will find plenty of culture in Crans-Montana too: from the traditional crowning of the most
beautiful cow to mark the end of the summer, to the sensational Caprices Festival packed full of
well-known bands and fresh new talent. With a beautiful old quarter, museums, art, and gastronomy,
whatever the season, you will find there is a lot to do in Crans-Montana. All these activities are within
easy reach, as there is a funicular railway connecting Crans-Montana with the Bluche campus.
“Visit us if you can, spend a day here and the words and
pictures will come alive. You’ll soon understand what
makes Les Roches so unique."

Think outside the box
Academic
Learning
At the heart of every program is an academic education. Les Roches prides
itself on offering comprehensive, Swiss-quality programs that combine
rigorous academic study with hands-on leadership and business mentoring
by experienced faculty.
You will attend classes to learn key business management theory in areas such as marketing,
finance, accounting, human resources and economics. You will also receive an essential
education in general subjects such as politics and international affairs, language and drama.
While in the classroom, you will carry out research projects on your own and in groups, and will
make multimedia presentations in front of an audience – all of which will help you gain selfconfidence and teach you valuable business skills. If you would like to develop your leadership
qualities, get yourself elected as Class Delegate by your fellow students.
To further enhance your studies, you will also have the opportunity to learn and interact via
videoconference with our Les Roches branch campuses, enabling you to share best practices
and experiences with Les Roches students and faculty around the world. The overall aim of a Les
Roches education is to give you the skills and experience to launch a successful, global career.
“At Les Roches, specific emphasis is placed upon working in a team and regular retrospective
peer and tutor reviews are used to analyze and improve team work. Our programs stress
independent and creative work by the students either as part of a team or on an individual
base. Students are asked to identify current and developing trends, and by the application
of theoretical knowledge of strategies, are requested to develop business plans that can
be used as a good reference for future, real projects.”

Experiential
Learning
THE KITCHEN - WHERE YOU WILL LEARN MORE THAN HOW TO COOK
You may not be planning a career as a chef, but working in a kitchen will teach you how to handle hot and
stressful situations as you gain knowledge about all the operational processes of a food and beverage
establishment. You will work closely with our chefs to prepare meals each day and, in doing so, gain a practical
understanding of how a professional kitchen works. Important skills such as behavior, presentation, efficiency
and teamwork will be learned in this hands-on part of your education. You will also work in the stewarding
department, as you understand the importance of back of house operations to help the whole operation to run
smoothly. You will understand the principle of ‘learning by doing’ as you attend theory classes about the origins
of ingredients and plate presentation, and then put into practice in the kitchen what you have just learned. You
will have the support of our professionals teaching and supervising you, but you will do all the work – which is
assessed by your professor afterwards. This is experiential learning at its best and will give you leadership
skills and confidence.
THE SERVICE - LEARN TO STAND IN SOMEONE ELSE’S SHOES
It is important to understand every job in hospitality before you can learn how to manage a team. You
will work in all of our restaurants on campus – from formal dining to fast food - giving you a variety of
experiences. Mixology and wine classes will teach you about the principles of bar and beverage, and you
will have the opportunity to mix up cocktails in the sports bar. You may find it challenging at first, but
faculty members and fellow students will support you. You will soon gain confidence and learn the style
that will make you a polished manager in a 5-star establishment.
THE ROOMS - WHERE YOU WILL DISCOVER WHAT 5-STAR SERVICE IS
To understand great service, it is critical to learn the art of making guests feel welcome. Our rooms
division classes let you simulate the role of a front office clerk and manager, a guest and a cashier at our
purpose-built front office counter. You will learn specific industry computer software programs as well
as planning tools and yield management techniques.

INTERNSHIPS PLAY AN IMPORTANT PART IN OUR PROGRAMS.
EXPERIENCE IN A PROFESSIONAL WORKING ENVIRONMENT GIVES YOU
THE CHANCE TO PUT INTO PRACTICE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE LEARNED
DURING YOUR STUDIES. THIS INVALUABLE OPPORTUNITY WILL ALSO HELP YOUR
EMPLOYABILITY WHEN YOU GRADUATE.
Your dream is to work internationally, so we help to arrange internships anywhere in the world. We
encourage travel – it is an excellent opportunity to develop your language skills and get to know a
new country. Depending on your program, your internships usually cover kitchen, food service or room
division and business administration. Of course, your nationality and visa requirements may have an
impact on where you can work.
Our Career Development and Industry Placement Office will help you find internships that suit you
during your studies and as you begin your career. With our global reputation, we have a long list of
international establishments eager to take interns from Les Roches and you will be exposed
to a variety of opportunities from your very first week:

nationalities in a swimming pool. In 2013, they held a Master Chef
competition and Les Roches’ Got Talent.
A highlight each semester is Cultural Night. Twice a year, you will have
the opportunity to celebrate your country – in song, dance, comedy,

Studying finance and accounting develops a wide range of essential business skills needed
by leaders and managers, including financial analysis, problem solving, communication and

to senior management positions.

Financial Management for Decision Making
We place emphasis on the concept, effect and the study of leverage in structuring a company. You will study different models of
operating and financial leverage in conjunction with various micro and macro economic conditions, which will then be applied in
your Capstone Project. Our finance course is designed to fully prepare you to move into the business-oriented aspects of the
hospitality industry. There are a number of roles within the hospitality business that demand advanced financial experience.
Revenue managers, for example, determine the ideal price for a hotel room, airline seat, rental car etc. Our training will help you
predict consumer behavior by optimizing inventory availability and pricing. Another option could be to become a financial analysis
consultant. Working with multiple clients, you would be putting your problem-solving and negotiation skills into practice daily.

"The academic and practical mix that
you find at Les Roches is a great way
to learn. To top it off, I believe that the
internships completed as part of the

ahead of other candidates who have
only gone through theory. My recent
internship was as a management

internship into two - marketing, and
food and beverage. I was in charge

different

competitive checks, market research

Program Detail
MBA in hospitality management
with finance or marketing (1 year)
Finance specialization
There are a number of careers you could choose to pursue with this route and an MBA will get you to an executive
position even faster. One option could be a real estate investment analyst, in which case you’ll be responsible
for executing real estate transactions on behalf of the firm. You will collect data to understand future supply
and demand in the market, among other important responsibilities. Another option could be financial controller,
where you will produce reports to help forecast a company’s financial situation. This role is crucial in improving the
organization’s efficiency and often involves overseeing training programs for accounting staff.
Marketing specialization
An MBA will fast track your career in hospitality, and with this option you may plan to be a marketing director after
graduation. If so, you can expect to work closely with the CEO and other senior executives to determine a brand
positioning that reflects an organization’s values and objectives. In this specialization, you will formulate marketing
plans and, with your team, work with your creative agencies to produce communications. You will evaluate the
success of your campaigns and learn about cutting-edge developments in digital and social media marketing.
