The simple and durable Pivot Bolt design provides years of service Durable Yet Simple Trip Design with low maintenance. Should maintenance be required, the trip assembly can be refitted easily, safely, and economically using common hand tools. No Other Tyne Penetrates Like Bourgault’s The sweep tip is located just behind the tyne pivot. If the sweep angle attack increases slightly, depth is not significantly affected; however, penetration capability is greatly enhanced. Increasing Force Spring Trip Assemblies The design of Bourgault’s spring tyne assembly allows our tillage units to work soil where competitors’ cultivators just ride on top of the ground. Bourgault's tyne assembly design utilizes INCREASING FORCE geometry. As the soil gets tougher, the tyne and sweep may begin to tip back slightly. This slightly increases the angle of attack of the sweeps and greatly increases their ability to penetrate the tough soil. The trips will never tip enough to adversely affect seedbed quality. The C style tyne allows the straw to roll off. Straight tynes tend to suffer from straw wrapping. Superior Hydraulic System Bourgault’s tillage units feature the Master-Slave Hydraulic System to control the operating depth. The simple yet effective design makes this system virtually maintenance free due to less wearing parts as compared to single cylinder, mechanically actuated designs. Superior Penetration Characteristics Single Series Depth Control Cylinders TILLAGE A standard in-line filter located on the master cylinder protects the depth control system from damage due to harmful contamination. Precise Depth Control A precision line lock valve complements the exactness of the single master, series hydraulic depth control system. Bourgault's Patented Line Lock Valve patented valve prevents oil transfer between the tractor and cultivator and keeps the hydraulic pressure low in the return line when lowering the unit into the ground. The valve ensures that the tillage unit will maintain an even depth across the entire width without creeping or rebounding when not working using the depth stop. The patented Quick Shift Depth Control makes setting the bar’s working depth easy and effective. This construction technique creates a frame with unmatched strength and durability. Bourgault’s tillage units can handle heavy tillage operations, the extra weight of Mid Row Banders®, and mounted, on-row press wheels. Farmers have reported logging more than two decades of service on their Bourgault tillage units without producing a single frame crack. As a Bourgault owner, you can be confident that this Durable Solid Frame Construction unit will go the distance. Handle Residue with Ease Bourgault's designers have made residue clearance a top priority. Each unit’s trip layout is designed to achieve unmatched residue clearance. The distance between adjacent tynes is a minimum of 810 mm on 203 mm (8”) spacing and 1 m on 254 mm (10”) spacing. The minimum distance between adjacent rows is .64 m and the frame to ground clearance is .69 m, with sweeps. Research has proven that the ability to follow field contours is primarily related to frame depth and wheel positioning. Both the 8810 and 9400 have the shortest contouring depth in the industry. The front castor wheels are positioned close to the frame, and the in-frame walking axles are centred in the frame. The result is a more even seeding depth through the peaks and valleys. The 9400 & 9800 Chisel Ploughs incorporate a four row frame with layouts designed to provide unmatched residue clearance. Distance between rows is a minimum .81 m for the 9400 and a minimum .79 m on the 9800. On the 305 mm (12”) spacing, units equipped with the 272 kg (600 lb) trips and 32 mm x 51 mm tynes have .76 m of frame to ground clearance and .64 m of obstacle clearance. In-frame walking axles will reduce the effects of rough ground by 50%, ensuring even depth during seeding. Rear wheels carry slightly more load, preventing the front wheels, on the walking axles, from diving in wet spots. Castor Wheels The front mount castor wheels provide a critical function to the proper operation of the floating hitch unit. The castor wheels eliminate the “nosing in” rotation of the bar, created by the draft loads of the soil placed on the openers. The front castor wheels keep the tillage unit's depth on target. TILLAGE Low Maintenance Bourgault tillage units require less maintenance! Bourgault utilizes high performance, composite bushings, pivoting on chrome pins. This has allowed Bourgault to minimize greasing locations and stretch greasing intervals. Adjust screw jacks for uniform depth from front to back of the frame. High Quality parts require less maintenance time and cost. Quick and Easy Levelling On all three models, side-to-side depth adjustment is done by adjusting the screws on top of each depth control cylinder with the spanners that are provided. For the 8810 and 9400 floating hitch units, frontto-back adjustment is performed by adjusting the Strong & accessible castor legs. Leg style castor wheels are used, rather than fork type. This feature greatly lessens the effort required in changing a tyre. Leg type castors will not build up with mud and field residue as is often experienced with fork type castors. Dependable Running Gear Bourgault’s tillage units are equipped with 2720 kg (6000 lb) wheel hubs. A triple lip seal system that includes a steel wear sleeve pressed into the hub, (rather than onto the spindle) makes the seal immune to damage from twine, wire and vines. Triple lip seals allow fresh grease to be pumped into the hub without worrying about the seal popping out. Attach the mounted press wheels to your Bourgault cultivator, or chisel plough; mount narrow openers and you have an effective direct seeding unit. The same arm can also be used to attach 4-bar harrows. and you can seed as a conventional air seeding system as well as do your tillage operations and chemical incorporation. You control your machine for the varying soil and moisture conditions you face from year to year. These options provide an economical solution for farmers who require the ability to easily switch over to any of the following operations: • • • The unique quick-attach bracket on this arm allows a quick and easy • transition between the harrows or press wheels. Simply by removing one pin, it takes only minutes to switch. Put sweeps and harrows back on • • Two Stage Spring Arrangement 8 Switching from mounted press wheels to harrows? No Problem! The patented Titan Quick Detach arm design uses two springs of different stiffness to provide the correct down force regardless of the device on the mounting arm. With the harrows in place, the lighter spring allows for a reduced down-force to avoid straw bunching. When packing force is required, the heavier spring takes over. Adjustable & Versatile Reconfigure the attachments on your 8810 in a matter of minutes! The Titan Quick Detach arms accommodates change from press wheels to harrows with one retaining pin. The Titan arm also allows you to quickly adjust the down force on the harrows or press wheels. Both styles are fully adjustable to properly match any soil conditions you may encounter. Quickly Set Desired Down Pressure Mounted Press Wheel System The Bourgault Gang Style Mounted Press Wheel System is available in a 508 mm (20”) poly-wheel style. These systems will provide packing pressures from 7 kg (15 lbs) to 23 kg (50 lbs) per wheel on 203 mm (8”) spacing and 7 kg (15 lbs) to 27 kg (60lbs) per wheel on 254 mm (10”) spacing. This system uses heavy duty pillow block bearings mounted on a rugged hollow structural steel frame. This rugged press wheel system is designed to clear any obstacle without damage. Tines are 13 x 508 mm on 203 mm centres (½” x 20” on 8” centres). Section widths are 1.63 m (64”) & 2.03 m (80”) wide. Independent Mounted Press Wheel System With this system, each wheel provides an equal amount of pressure on every row; 7 kg (15 lbs) to 23 kg (50 lbs) per wheel on 203 mm (8”) spacing and 7 kg (15 lbs) to 27 kg (60lbs) per wheel on 254 mm (10”) spacing. This may prove to be quite important in conditions where packing uniformity is adversely affected by windrowing. Windrowing, a characteristic of all tyne machines, is more noticeable at higher field speeds because openers located in the rearward rows have a tendency to throw soil sideways over the front seeded rows. This results in more soil being deposited over the front seeded rows by the rearward openers. The Bourgault Independent Mounted Press Wheel System compensates for this by allowing each wheel to pack its seed row separately. With this, you have 102 mm (4”) of independent movement on each wheel, plus each press wheel gang has approximately 230 mm (9") of vertical movement to clear larger obstacles. Economical, double contact, sealed ball bearings are used in each wheel. These are permanently sealed to never require greasing. 9 The same Titan Quick-Detach arms used for the regular 4-bar mounted harrows and mounted press wheels are used for the mounted heavy harrows. Mounted Tyne Harrow System The Bourgault 4-bar Tyne Harrows are mounted on quick attach brackets and come in 1.5 m & 2 m (5 ft. & 6½ ft.) sections (for use with poly press wheels) and 1.2 m (4 ft.) sections (for use with the heavy duty press wheels) and utilize 9.5 mm x 406 mm (3/8” x 16”) tynes which provide an excellent field finish. With the Culti-Drill, you can have a unit that will operate as a stateof-the-art low disturbance one-pass seeding system. If tillage is required, you can quickly convert the unit into a conventional seeding system or straight tillage implement. Adjustable Mounted Press Wheel System The Bourgault mounted press wheel system uses a heavy-duty steel press wheel with a semi-pneumatic rubber cap. Available are 51 mm (2”), 76 mm (3”) & 102 mm (4”) wide semi-pneu- matic rubber style wheels. Press wheel gangs have only 4 or 5 wheels each, which provides good land following characteristics. The packing force is adjustable from 14 kg (30 lbs) to 40 kg (90 lbs) per wheel on 254 mm (10”) spacing. This ability to vary the packing pressure allows producers to adjust to a wide variety of seeding conditions. For straw management, exchange the mounted press wheel gangs for optional mounted harrow sections. The harrow sections can be adjusted for tyne angle and down pressure, depending on your soil and straw conditions. Match the Opener to the Application For a low disturbance seeding operation, equip the 8810 Culti-Drill with narrow 14mm (½") knife openers. For conventional seeding or straight tillage, mount a wider sweep opener to provide good soil aeration and weed kill. Transpo Weights 20 25 Mid Row Banders® & One Pass Seeding MRBs® are highly recommended for applying dry, liquid, or NH3 while seeding. Nitrogen placed too close to the seed causes seed burn, which leads to emergence delays, seedling population reductions, maturity delays and ultimately significant yield loss. MRBs® give you the flexibility to place the bulk of the fertilizer between the seed rows. You now have the ability to sow in one pass, eliminating the need to band fertilizer ahead of the seeding unit. The 491 monitor is economical for smaller systems, yet is capable of working with larger tanks with more involved configurations. Model 491 Monitor The 491 is capable of monitoring: • up to two radial fans • up to four product applications (shaft speed & rate) • up to four bin volumes (four levels each bin) • ground speed • case drain pressure • field and total area (each metering auger) Buttons are sealed to protect the monitor from dust, and back-lit for night-time operation. A clear beep is emitted to signify when seeding operation begins, ends, or when any problem occurs. The Deluxe 491 features a large, well lit display that can be set to display one, three, or four values at one time. When compared to seed placed nitrogen, more bushels of grain are produced, with the same amount of nitrogen and the crops generally mature sooner. This can be explained in three parts: • Seed is not subjected to the toxicity of inrow nitrogen. The seed can emerge faster and more vigorously than plants damaged by fertilizer burn. The result is a stronger, better yielding stand. • Access to nitrogen is delayed until the plant is established. This tends to create a stand that produces less straw and more grain. 24 Protein levels in wheat also tend to be 1½ to 2 points higher with crops seeded with MRBs®. • Plants roots develop right to the centre of the fertilizer row. The plant will access not only the nitrogen, but also all of the available nutrients and moisture in a greater area. Minimize Soil Disturbance Many double shoot openers and other higher disturbance openers extensively fracture the soil. The churning action of the soil mixes the seed and fertilizer within the furrow. Poor placement will result in uneven germination. With the MRB® system, a narrow, low disturbance seed opener can be used. Less disturbance will result in better seed depth control. Germinating seeds will access the nitrogen placed in the mid-row band, resulting in a strong and even catch in the field. Versatile The MRBs® perform well in all moisture and soil conditions. In hard pan or moist ground, the MRB® coulter can cut open the soil and place product at a consistent depth. Field residue can be easily managed, as the coulters cut through the straw. The tripping action allows the coulters to ride over the rocks, yet penetrate even the hardest soils. By comparison, double shoot openers tend to work well only in specific soil conditions. Series 20 Mid Row Banders® The test plot on the left was seeded by an MRB® system, whereas the plot on the right was seeded with a double shoot boot. The MRB® plot has an excellent field finish with no open fractures or large lumps. Quite typical of double shoot boots, the plot on the right is rough. The difference in germination is also noticeable. The Bourgault Series 20 MRB® is designed for years of work in all seeding conditions. An 457mm (18”) coulter disc set at a 5° angle cuts open a furrow in the soil. The inside floating scraper ensures the soil remains out of the fur- row & cleans the inside of the coulter. Scrapers are available in standard or carbide options. The MRB® is capable of 25mm (1") increments for height adjustment. The tension spring gives the MRB® 170 kg (375lbs) of force for penetrating field residue and soil, yet allow the coulters to roll over rocks. Series 25 Mid Row Banders® A new quick height adjust system allows the operator to quickly move the depth of the MRBs®. Height adjustments are made by turning the plated acme threaded rod from the top of the upright. The coulter assembly moves up or down on two chrome shafts. Height can be easily gauged on the indicator bar. A larger 508mm (20”) coulter disc set at a 5° angle cuts field residue better and extends coulter life. A new user friendly slide adjust scraper/boot system allows for more adjustment as the disc wears. A heavy duty arm with a 102mm (4”) wide pivot with a greaseless composite bushing, protected with urethane seals and plastic thrust washers pivots on a chrome pin. Initial trip force is set at 204 kg (400 lbs). Fiberglide® bushings in the cast height adjustment mount provide a solid low friction fit on the chrome shafts.
