In order to be eligible you must be a non-profit group providing cultural, recreation, or sport services to residents of The City of North Battleford. The grant provides assistance with equipment purchases and program or workshop funding. Applications must be submitted at least 30 days in advance of the project. GRANT INFORMATION CREATIVE KIDS BATC COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION BATC Community Development Corporation provides grants, through an application and review process, to non-profit and charitable organizations for the following purposes: Economic, Educational, Cultural and Social Development. Community Infrastructure and Maintenance, Recreational Facilities Operation and Development, Senior and Youth Programs, and Justice and Health Initiatives. Canadian Tire Corporation recognizes that organized sports connect kids to their communities and makes sure that 100% of the money raised stays in the Battlefords. For more information call 1-844-YES-PLAY or email jumpstart@cantire.com LEISURE SERVICES 2016-2017 ACTIVITY GUIDE 5 LEISURE SERVICES PROGRAMS FITNESS Minimum registrations must be met or classes may be changed, postponed, or cancelled one week prior to the start date. Register early to avoid disappointment. * Winter session will begin January 16th, 2017 and follow a similar pattern to the Fall session. Please check the city website for details at www.cityofnb.ca RUN A 5K Focusing on a run/walk approach, you will gradually increase the amount of running each session. Join Natasha on a 9 week journey as you gradually progress to ensure success. (This program is designed for people new to running) TBC (TOTAL BODY CONDITIONING) Geared for all fitness levels, this moderate to high-intensity workout will focus on improving your overall fitness. Using a variety of equipment (weights, bands, steps and balls) you’ll work on strengthening, stretching, balance, and core exercises. TRX Kick start your fitness program with suspension training. Learn to use the TRX band, the correct body position, alignment and basic TRX movements. Emphasizing strength, range of motion and stretching, this class is fun and invigorating. All fitness levels are welcome PRE-NATAL FITNESS Regular exercise will aid with labour and delivery, while improving your strength and endurance. This class is safe and suitable for women in any stage of pregnancy. MUMMY & ME Bring your baby to your work out! Focusing on all aspects of fitness, this class will aid Moms in developing a work out routine including abdominal, core work, and stretching. BALANCE TRAINING This one on one training will help reduce the risk of falling by improving your balance and strengthening the stabilizer muscles in your body. Feel confident and safe when you walk with balance training. CARDIO COMBO Cover all your fitness needs in one class with this fun and challenging total body workout. CHI KUNG/T’AI CHI Benefits of these non impact slow meditative movements include: improvement with balance, posture, flexibility and lowering stress levels. Participants will also see an increase in energy stamina and mobility. YOGA Blending balance, strength, and flexibility improve your overall level of fitness with this centuries-old form of exercise. Holly’s practical, easy to follow style, is, understandable, and doable for individuals at any level of fitness. GROUP MEDITATION Experience the age old practise of mind - body connection with group meditation. Each session will leave you feeling relaxed, refreshed and replenished. Classes are held monthly and begin the first Tuesday of the month for 4 weeks. INSANITY LIVE A challenging, group-focused athletic training, cardio conditioning, and total-body strength drills, designed for people of all levels. Child care is available during the 10-11am time. NORTHLAND POWER CURLING CENTRE THE NATIONSWEST FIELD HOUSE In this 43,000 square foot facility you can enjoy the six lane pool, ride the tide in the Wave Pool, let two wild water slides test your nerves, float down the Lazy River, take a dip in the whirlpool, or enjoy the steam room! There are swimming opportunities all day long! This facility is managed by the Twin Rivers Curling Club, and is host to regular league curling, regional play downs, provincial bonspiels, and provincial championships. Curling starts in October and continues through the end of March. Junior and Adult Instructional programs are held throughout the year and Friday nights often feature Drop-In Curling. Twin Rivers Curling Club is available for rent for such things as weddings, holiday parties,and trade shows. For more information contact the TRCC manager at 306-937-2431. With an audience capacity of 385 (with not a bad seat in the house!) and sound quality unparalleled to any theatre, this facility is a destination spot for any live show. Exercise machines are available and equipment is available for loan. There are thousands of square feet for potential rental space for commercial trade shows, dances, and other events. February 18th - 24th, 2018 Representing nine sport districts throughout the province, over 2,000 athletes, coaches and managers will participate in the games. The fairways and greens are meticulously manicured and three tee-boxes on every hole make this course playable for all. Visit the NBGCC website for more information at www.northbattlefordgolf.com CENTENNIAL PARK 2001 106 Street Centennial Park is s a 90 acre park in the centre of the city, located at 18th Avenue and 104th Street. The North Battleford Civic Centre, three brand new tennis courts, and the North Battleford Rotary Skate Park are all located in this park which also features large open space, a track, splash pad, ball diamonds, horseshoe pits, and lawn bowling. For more information on the following Centennial Park Fields and Facilities, please call 306-445-1755. • BEAVER LIONS BASEBALL STADIUM: One of the best in Saskatchewan, Beaver Lions Baseball Stadium has seating for 1000 spectators and is a full senior baseball diamond complete with lights, grass infield, electronic scoreboard, concession and an irrigated outfield. In the fall the Stadium is converted to a full sized football field that is utilized by the North Battleford Comprehensive High School Vikings and JPII Crusaders as well as the local touch football teams. • LIONS BALL DIAMONDS: These four diamonds are on the north side of the Civic Centre. One diamond is full sized while the others vary from bantam to pee wee size. The diamonds all have shale infields, covered dugouts, irrigated outfields and are completely fenced. Washrooms are available adjacent to the diamonds. • SLO PITCH DIAMONDS: There are two slo-pitch diamonds located off Pearson Avenue at the east end of Centennial Park. • TRACK AND FIELD: Centennial Park has a 400 metre track and field facility. There is an electric hookup adjacent to the track that is next to a hill which serves as an excellent spot for spectators. Washroom and concession facilities are available. • SOCCER PITCHES: Centennial Park has three full size irrigated soccer pitches which offer an excellent playing surface. The pitches are utilized by the local minor soccer association as well as adult soccer leagues. • PLAYGROUND: This playground is located just north of Beaver Lions Stadium. It features a complete set of play apparatuses, a playground shelter, and a spray park. • TENNIS COURTS: There are three tennis courts in Centennial Park that are available for public use from April through October, weather permitting. • DISC GOLF: Enjoy the park setting through a game of disc golf; great for all ages and skill levels. All you need is a Frisbee. You will find Basket #1 just outside of Beaver Lions Stadium in the North East corner. • CENTENNIAL PARK ACTIVITY CENTRE: Located at 1841 - 106th Street this facility serves as a clubhouse for the horseshoe and lawn bowling clubs from May to September. During the winter season the facility is available for small group meetings and workshops. It can accommodate approx. 20-25 people. • WALKING AND SKI TRAILS: The city has developed a system of walking trails throughout Centennial Park. In the winter, the city grooms 1.8 kilometres of trails for cross country and skate skiing. DAVID LAIRD CAMPGROUND David Laird Campground is two kilometers east of the Western Development Museum between Highway 16 and Highway 40. The campground has 41 full service sites and 20 non-serviced sites. Many of the sites are “pull through” sites that can accommodate large trailers and RVs. Amenities include two shower / washroom facilities, a trailer disposal dump, playground, outdoor barbecues, firewood access, and a trout pond. The David Laird Campground is open from May to September. The playground has a handicap accessible play structure, swings, and a splash pad. This playground is supervised during July and August. GREENSPACE PARKS CENTRAL PARK at 13th Avenue and 101st Street surrounds the North Battleford Library and features mature elm and ash trees, making it a favorite summer spot to relax. H.D. MCPHAIL PARK is located at 13th Avenue and 100th Street and is where The City of North Battleford Cenotaph is located. The park is named after H. (Howdy) D. McPhail, a WWII bomber pilot. The park is also home to the city’s Geodetic Survey of Canada pin. PEACE PARK is at 13th Avenue and 112th Street and has enough open space to throw a ball around or just relax on the grass. The park has a memorial with a sundial - dedicated to WWII Veterans who made their homes in this area of North Battleford. COLLEGE HEIGHTS PARK is at St. Laurent Drive and Thompson Crescent on the northeast side of North Battleford. The park has some playground equipment and enough space for children to run and play. OUTDOOR OPPORTUNITIES KINSMEN PARK CONFEDERATION PARK is also located on the north side of the city between Gardiner Drive and Clark Drive. The park has plenty of open space and some playground equipment. ROTARY PARK is located behind the Boys and Girls Club of the Battlefords at 13th Avenue and 104th Street. The local Rotary Club sponsored the playground equipment, which is regularly enjoyed by neighbourhood children. KILLDEER PARK is located along Killdeer Drive in the northwest area of the city. The park has a playground, ample greenspace, and a small outdoor rink during the winter. RIVERVIEW PARK at 99th Street and 7th Avenue offers a scenic view of the Battlefords River Valley. Workshops are typically held over the weekend, and provide the opportunity to work in a studio environment with others that share similar interests to you. Started in Fall of 2012, it is a place where you can learn about our relationship with the land and gain cultural understanding of the traditional uses of native plants for medicinal purposes. A very easy flat trail for the beginner. 3. CENTENNIAL PARK Located behind the Civic Centre. Several kilometers of groomed trails can be found here. The area is fairly wide open. There is adequate light for the night skier. 4. NORTH SHORE TRAIL Located along the North Shore of the river, access is from Poundmaker Trail, please see map on page 2. The trail is a 5.5 km loop in a wooded area and is enjoyed by all levels of skiers. The City operates a summer playground program at: Kinsmen Park, Centennial Park, Fairview Park, and Connaught School. The island is laced with trails that are trimmed in the summer for nature lovers and groomed in the winter for cross country skiing and skate skiing. Sorry, no ski-dooing or any vehicle traffic allowed. There is a picnic site, parking lots, as well as benches on some trails. The Kiwanis Nature Trail highlights much of the flora and fauna to be found on the island. Please keep fires in the designated areas. For trail information, see Leisure Guide map on page 2. BATTLEFORD FLATS The Flats are a complete outdoor recreational site. This area includes a soccer field and a total of 8 ball diamonds designed for softball, slo-pitch, and minor ball (6 shaled and 2 not). EILING KRAMER CAMPGROUND TOWN OF BATTLEFORD PARKS & RECREATION BATTLEFORD ARENA Built in 1978, this facility has artificial ice from October to April and accommodates Minor Hockey, Figure Skating, Recreational Hockey, and many tournaments. From April to September, a variety of functions/ activities can be held on the concrete floor that measures 87’ x 189’. The total building is equipped with a fire prevention sprinkler system. To book ice and/or summer activities, call the Parks and Recreation Department at 306 - 937 - 6216. 74 camping sites make up the Eiling Kramer Campground. All sites are power sites with 17 full service sites. There is a picnic area with shelter, kitchen, showers, playgrounds, and campfires permitted. It is located next to the Battleford Historic Fort.
