cut his collegiate swimming career short.
After graduating in 2005, he spent two years coaching a small, dedicated group of masters swimmers in the Bahamas.
The Big Swim
“Those two years in the Bahamas really developed a lot
of my joy of coaching,” he said. “It made me love working with masters swimmers.”
He followed that with coaching jobs at Fort Belvoir Masters in Alexandria, Va., and Curl-Burke Masters in the
D.C. area.
His primary goal at AGUA is to create a more unifed
team through regular social events — like once-a-month
Thirsty Thursdays, bagel breakfasts after Saturday
morning workouts and post-open water swim barbecues
— and increased participation at local and travel meets.
Dominic Latella
His second goal, he said, is to host masters swim meets
at Asphalt Green, ideally a short course meet in the fall
or winter and a long course meet next summer.

The Big Swim
We would like for you to join us as a volunteer at our 17th Annual Big Swim on Saturday,
April 28. The Big Swim is a free competitive swim meet for New York youngsters aged 6 to 12.
Each child stands on a diving block, hears the starting gun, and swims a 25-yard lap, racing to
the fnish with the roar of the crowd urging them on. Every child experiences the fun, ca maraderie, and sense of accomplishment that swimming in a meet provides.
Last year participation was one of the highest ever and we hope to have another record-breaking Big Swim this year where every child leaves a winner and is awarded a medal. This year’s
Olympians and elite athletes will include Rowdy Gaines, Canadian Olympian Nikki Dryden,
US Olympic Diver Chris Colwill, members from the USA Diving National Team, and many
more.
