FLA Role Architect of Record Key Architect Fernando Lugo Client P.R. Public Building Authority Contact Lilliam Almeyda Design Director T.787.721.3145 Location Las Cunetas, Arecibo, PR Project Size 97,700 sf Construction Cost Bid $11,977,000 Final $12, 236,899 Completion 2007 The Central Patio Background The idea of an “open school” for the community required that the Library, the auditorium, the refectory and the indoor sports court to be accessible to the community without having to enter the school. The “Las Cunetas” community would also have a space for their association and activity management. Design Features The creation of a central patio with direct contact to an entrance plaza generates a scheme that brakes from the traditional enclosed and isolated patio crating a direct link from the inside of the school to the outside . The entrance Plaza is surrounded by the administrative building, the library, the community center and the auditorium in such a way that all are accessible from both inside and outside the school.
