A Lifetime of Art Begins Here
2015 sp A Lifetime of Art Begins Here ri g n 1 mission The of BAYarts is to provide a welcoming lakeside environment to stimulate, encourage and support professional and aspiring artists of all ages through collaboration, education & exhibition. The dream becomes a reality. Open for Business! F unny how things fall into place. A few years ago, just as BAYarts was completing the renovation of the Fuller House, the 120-year old basement pottery studio started showing its age: flooding in spring and freezing in the winter. But the thing about potters is, they never let small things like floods and frosty fingertips get in the way of their love of clay or the long-lasting friendships and camaraderie within their community. In spite of the conditions, classes for all ages went on and masterpieces were created. Then one day, an angel was sent to us, the daughter of beloved friend and fellow potter, Karen Ryel. Looking for a way to honor her mother’s memory at the place that had meant so much to her, she made a commitment then and there to help us build a new one. And we did. And it’s finished. And it seems like a miracle. Needless to say, the gratitude for Gretchen Colleran and her husband Brian runs deep. In addition, it couldn’t have been completed without a team of talented people who were equally passionate about this project including Andy Simons and our partners at Cleveland Metroparks; Senator Tom Patton, Representative Nan Baker, Mayor Debbie Sutherland and The Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. On the ground: thanks to BAYarts board president Peter “Zen” Winzig, Norris McClure and Alabaster Construction, Michael Christoff of Vocon, Inc and Brian Stack of Stack Heating & Cooling. …and to everyone in the BAYarts ceramics community for years of patience and continually good vibes, especially Joe Morris and BAYarts pottery goddess Moira Beale for her leadership, vision and inspiration. Purchase a special limited edition ceramic tile to be part of a mural in the new studio. All tiles will be created by advanced students; each one unique. Visit: nois.com Opening Reception Friday, March 6 from 7-9 pm APR {10-25} ROB ROTH HIGH TIDE Roth approaches his work by inventing from nature, and being spontaneous. “By abstracting the forms, I try to create a sense of mood and atmosphere. I combine a variety of textures and shapes blended with quick brush strokes to achieve a sense of lost and found. My landscapes are built through abstraction, composing them with a break up of a low horizon line juxtaposed against the reflection and movement of the open sky. I try to treat them almost as an intimate still life bringing the viewer to eye level as if it were set on a stage.” Visit: robertrothpaintings.blogspot.com Opening Reception Friday, April 10 from 7-9 pm “LANDSCAPE # 301” / Acrylic, oil stick on canvas adultclasses DRAWING Drawing Portraits - Loren Naji Students will capture the likeness of the model using the best characteristics of charcoal. Often we paint what we think, or remember what an object looks like. Our mind gets in the way of our eyes. One of the most difficult aspects of painting is seeing a color, and accurately mixing the color before applying it to the canvas. In this course we will look at ways to objectively identify colors and accurately mix them in oil paint. We will work from direct observation. Subject matter will include still-life, portrait, and the figure. Student should have a solid grasp on basic drawing skills. ______________________________________________ Tuesdays 10:00 am-1:00 pm Apr 7, 14, 28, May 5, 19, 26, Jun 2, 9 (8 wks) $200 ______________________________________________ Figure Studies in Oil & Acrylic - Timothy Callaghan Intermediate to Advanced - Discover the secrets to painting what we see, getting a likeness through layers of paint laid on the canvas and how to begin in a general way.
