May 30, 2015 - Little League
Baseball Kicks off the 2015
Season
The Stoney Creek Optimist Little League kicked off the 2015 season on May 30th
by recognizing members of the 1962 and 1965 Little League Ontario and
Canadian champions from Stoney Creek. These teams represented Canada at the
World Little League Championships in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The 1965 team
represented Canada in great fashion, getting all the way to the final game, only
to lose in a very close game.
This League started in 1957. Since 1961, this League has had a series of
successes - Major District 1 Champions 12 times; Major Provincial Champions 5
times; Major Canadian Champions 2 times (1962 and 1965); Major District 1
House League Champions once; and Minor District 1 House League once.
This year, the League is off to a great season with over 280 kids registered.
There are 8 T-Ball teams split into two divisions, 6 Rookie Ball teams (ages 7/8),
4 Minor teams (ages 9/10), 5 Major teams (ages 11/12), and 2 Girls softball
teams.
In addition, there are 4 Rep teams - Major, Minor, Under 8 and Under 7.
The League also provides a comprehensive training program for young people
who wish to take up umpiring.
The Optimist Club of Stoney Creek is proud to be associated with the League.
Hats off to the organizers and all the volunteers who provide the opportunity for
the many kids to participate!

August 28-30, 2015
It’s that time again! Activities are underway to put together the Optimist Deli. New
City Health requirements has resulted in many changes on how we deliver and use
water for utensil and hand washing. We are watching grocery store sales to stock up
on supplies. Orders are being prepared for major quantities of sausages, deli meats,
drinks, buns, wraps, regular fries, sweet potato fries. Assembly of the Deli takes place
Thursday evening and Friday morning, with sales starting around noon, but officially
not until 4:00pm. For manpower, it requires about 200 shifts of 4 hrs each to run the
‘store’.

The Optimist Creed
Promise Yourself…
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
