of commerce
Due to space constraints and a profound desire to provide a complementary service to the independent, local businesses that power this
energetic and thriving community (and which may not have the best means by which to effectively publicize on their own), we were unable to
include every single business in the Montevallo area on this town map.
However, if you wish to request inclusion on future editions of the ValloCycle map or copies of this map for distribution at your place of
business, please contact us at vallocycle@gmail.com. A digital copy of this map can also be obtained at www.ValloCycle.com.

Unbeknownst to many, the forced enslavement
of African-Americans in the South existed
well into the 20th century, and is made
most apparent in the context of the former
practices and history of Alabama’s coal
industry. In a system of “slavery by another
name,” thousands of African-Americans were
convicted of crimes as ridiculous as public
unemployment, sold to mining companies,
and worked forcibly until death. For a crash
course in this and many other forgotten
truths, come visit Alabama’s only monument
dedicated to coal miners everywhere!
