on’t be alarmed at the deafening
silence coming from Birmingham’s
concert halls. It’s an annual
occurrence. The mass exodus
of musicians, dancers and other arts
professionals and students every summer
is driven by the September-to-May season,
which comes to a screeching halt when
temperatures start climbing.
Where do they go? Mountains,
seasides, resort areas, wherever high-class
performance migrates each summer. Some
hold annual gigs, others are discovering new
and exotic locales. Still others are advancing
their careers and taking advantage of learning
opportunities. We’re keeping track of some of
them, while marking time until September.
Not to worry. They’ll be back, likely
refreshed and ready to tackle a new season for
Birmingham audiences.
