Just Imagine… 2012 Tournament of Roses Parade
“Best Seats in the House” Tickets Now on Sale
Tournament of Roses Parade fans can
buy “the best seats in the house” without
camping out for days on the streets of Pasadena, Calif. in hopes of nabbing a great
parade-watching spot. That’s right. While
tickets last, reserved grandstand seats for
prime parade viewing are available through
Sharp Seating, the official seating company
of the Tournament of Roses Parade for
more than 85 years.
Due to its longstanding (since 1893)
“never on Sunday” policy, the 123rd Tournament of Roses Parade will roll through
the streets of Pasadena a day later than
usual – on Mon., Jan. 2, 2012. Nonetheless, the immensely popular event that attracts 40+ million TV viewers and more than
a million visitors from around the world to
Pasadena annually will be here in no time.
Parade fans wishing to secure reserved
grandstand seats are urged to place their
ticket orders now for the best selections.
Tickets are going fast for seating at what
is historically known as “TV Corner,” which
offers the same views seen on Rose Parade
television broadcasts. Prices range from
$45-$90 per seat, depending on location,
plus $30 for a parking permit.
“The Tournament of Roses is one of the
greatest spectacles in the world,” said
Sharp Seating President Sindee Riboli.
“Nothing else compares with its more than
40 floats, 25 bands and 20 equestrian units.
Musicians and equestrians from around the
globe compete to be in the Rose Parade,
so viewers really enjoy the best of the best.
While the floats look beautiful on television,
they are breathtaking to see live. It’s truly a
not-to-be missed, experience of a lifetime.”
Sharp Seating also provides tickets for
a variety of pre- and post-parade events.
Fans can purchase tickets for close-up
previews of the Rose Parade’s legendary
floats while the finishing touches are being
applied at three different Pasadena locations. Additionally, tickets are available to
view the floats on display after the parade.
Another crowd-pleaser, Bandfest will
feature bands from around the world showcasing their musical and marching talents
with performances at Pasadena City College’s football stadium Fri., Dec. 30, 2011,
2:00-4:30 p.m.; and two shows Sat., Dec.
31, 2011 - 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 2:00
– 4:30 p.m.
At EquestFest — happening Fri., Dec. 30,
2011, 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., at the Los
Angeles Equestrian center — horse-lovers
can stroll through the Rose Parade stable
area, meet many of the equestrians they
will see on the parade route Jan. 2, and
take photos with their beautiful horses.
Visitors will also enjoy riding demonstrations and equestrian drills, as well as ongoing exhibits, musical performances and
great food.
BandFest and EquestFest tickets are
$15.00. Sharp Seating recommends advance ticket purchases for all events as
they often sell out quickly.

Legendary vocalist Tony Bennett returns to Segerstrom Center
for a one-night-only performance
on Saturday May 12 at 8 p.m. This
will be Bennett’s fifth visit to the
Center, singing a program that
will include many of the beloved
songs that have made him an
American icon and an international treasure. With his recently
released number one CD, Duets
II, Bennett continues to thrill audiences with his heartfelt musical
interpretations and his signature
style. The New York Times wrote,
“Tony Bennett has not just bridged
the generation gap, he has demolished it. He has solidly connected
with a younger crowd…And there
have been no compromises.” This
performance is sure to be another
sold out Bennett event.
Tickets for Tony Bennett start at
$66 and will go on sale Sunday,
November 13 at 10 a.m. PST.
They will be available online at
SCFTA.org, at the Box Office at
600 Town Center Drive in Costa
Mesa or by calling (714) 5562787. For inquiries about group
ticket discounts for 15 or more,
call the Group Services office at
(714) 755-0236. The TTY number
is (714) 556-2746.
Frank Sinatra called Bennett
“the best singer in the business,”
and with a career that spans
more than six decades and includes multiple Platinum and
Gold albums, Grammy and Emmy
awards, a Kennedy Center Honor,
a Billboard Magazine Century
Award and a Citizen of the World
award from the United Nations,
he is also among the most ac-
claimed and enduring singers in
the business.
Tony Bennett celebrated his
85th birthday this year with a new
CD, Duets II, which was released
on September 20 on RPM/Columbia Records and made music
history by making him the oldest
artist to ever have a No. 1 CD
on the Billboard album charts.
Bennett began the recording process with several artists during
Grammy week in February 2011
at LA’s famed Capitol Studios.
Subsequent recording sessions
in New York, Nashville and Italy
rounded out the completion of the
CD. Featured with him on Duets
II are Lady Gaga, Michael Bublé,
Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey and
the late Amy Winehouse, whose
last recording session was for this
project. Duets II, produced by Phil
Ramone follows up Tony Bennett
Duets: An American Classic CD,
the 2006 Grammy winning CD
which became the singer’s bestselling CD to date.
Bennett has also received
critical acclaim for his television
appearances, including an Emmy
Award and Cable Ace Award
for his groundbreaking television special, Live By Request...
Tony Bennett, featuring a unique
interactive format in which the
viewing audience called in song
requests during the program.
This groundbreaking concept,
created by Bennett, eventually
evolved into a series on the A&E
network and was an on-air favorite
for nine years. Bennett was also
the subject of a major television
special, Tony Bennett: An Ameri-
can Classic, which aired on NBC
in Autumn 2006 and won seven
Emmy Awards.
Throughout his career, Bennett
has put his heart and time into
supporting humanitarian concerns. His many charitable works
include raising millions towards
diabetes and lending his artwork
to raise funds for the American
Cancer Society. In 2007, he was
honored by the United Nations
for his humanitarian efforts with
the Citizen of the World award.
Together with his wife, Susan,
Bennett established the charitable
organization, Exploring the Arts
(ETA) to support arts education in
public high schools. He founded
the Frank Sinatra School of the
Arts, a NYC public high school in
his hometown of Astoria, Queens
and ETA now supports 14 additional NYC public high schools
throughout New York City.

Orange County Celebrity STARS & STRIKES Bowling Tournament Seeks to Raise
Autism Awareness and Much Needed Funds to Help Children with Autism
ACT Today! (Autism Care and Treatment Today!) and The Eddie Guardado Foundation (EGF),
two national non-profit organizations based in
Southern California, announce a celebrity STARS
& STRIKES bowling tournament will be held on
Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 5 pm to 8:30 pm
at Bowlmor Lanes in Tustin, California. The event,
hosted by ACT Today! and EGF, which formed
an alliance in January 2011, will help provide
resources and grants to children with autism
whose families cannot afford the necessary care
and treatment their children need to reach their
full potential.
“Thanks to Eddie’s successful baseball career
we have felt financially blessed to be able to give
our daughter, Ava, all the therapies that she has
needed,” says Lisa Guardado, wife of retired
Major League Baseball (MLB) Pitcher Eddie Guardado and ACT Today! board member. “Through
fundraising events like STARS & STRIKES, we
hope to help other less fortunate families so that
they may achieve their goals and dreams for their
children affected by autism.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention, 1 in 110 children in America is
diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder
(ASD), making ASD more prevalent than juvenile
diabetes, pediatric cancer and childhood AIDS
combined. Guardado hopes the community will
come together to raise autism awareness and
much needed funds to help children with the
developmental disorder.
“This will be our first time organizing a
bowling tournament in Orange County,”
says Lisa Guardado. “In the past, we have
raised about $50,000 at a single event.
However, with the community’s help and
celebrity outreach, we are confident that
we can raise much more.”
Confirmed celebrities playing in the
tournament, include (as of November 4):
2-Time All-Star Pitcher “Everyday Eddie”
Guardado, LA Angels of Anaheim 4-Time
All-Star Torii Hunter, Texas Rangers 6-Time
All-Star Michael Young, Texas Rangers
2-Time All-Star Adrian Beltre, Texas Rangers Derek Holland, Hall-of-Famer Rod
Carew, LA Angels of Anaheim 3-Time AllStar Garret Anderson, Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star Pitcher J. J. Putz, Milwaukee
Brewers LaTroy Hawkins, Former MLB
Player and Radio Personality Rex Hudler,
All-Star Pitcher Jamie Moyer, Milwaukee
Brewers Brandon Kintzler, Cincinnati Reds Carlos Fisher, St. Louis Cardinals Brad Thompson,
Former MLB Player Adam Melhuse, 2-Time AllStar Pitcher Aaron Sele, All-Star Pitcher Chad
Cordero, and Texas Rangers Coach and Former
MLB Player Gary Pettis.
Events such as the STARS & STRIKES bowling
tournament allow ACT Today! to raise essential
funds to provide grants for families in desperate
Eddie Guardado
need of care and treatment. In the past year,
ACT Today! has distributed $340,000 in grants
to families.
For more information about the STARS &
STRIKES event, including sponsorship opportunities and tickets to attend the event, visit www.

FRIENDS OF DOROTHY GUILD
HALLOWEEN FUNDRAISER
RAISES RECORD $70K!
Clay Sadler, Dee W. IEYE and Geoff Laing
The Village Crean Costume Party held another extravagant Haunted Halloween for The Friends of Dorothy Guild that supports AIDS Services Foundation Orange County. They raised a record $70,000; the most the dynamic
volunteer support group has raised at any of its events since being founded in
2007. This brings the Dorothy’s’ total fundraising efforts for ASF to $622,782.
“This Halloween, we exceeded every goal – the décor was over the top.
Supporters were generous beyond our dreams and the costumes were fantastic. The event was sold out, we felt badly we had to turn people away,”
said Guild Founder and Chair Barbara Venezia.
This Friends of Dorothy Guild event has become the most in-demand
Halloween party in Orange County. The legendary Crean estate was filled to
capacity with 250 party goers bedecked, bedazzled and ghoulishly costumed,
all opening their hearts and hands to support AIDS Services Foundation.
Pat Kennedy supervised the décor – which must have covered at least an
acre of ground from the front lawns of the Village Crean, through the house,
patio where dinner was held, dance floor and onto the greens and into the
trees. Everywhere you looked there was a spooky face, hand, ghoul or
giant spider! And the costumes? They were truly over the top! There can’t Danny and Lydia Conley
be another Halloween party in Orange County to top the extravagance and
creativity of the costumes at The Friends of Dorothy’s event, seriously!
Venezia said, “Even as we laugh and cheer each amazing costume, we’re
always deeply aware of our purpose: to raise money and make it possible for
ASF to continue its important services it provides.”
These services include food, transportation, housing, emergency financial
assistance, family support programs, mental health counseling, support
groups, and HIV education and prevention.“The Dorothy’s continue to prove
that generosity is alive and well in our community and that you can keep the
“fun” in fundraising,” said Venezi.
Dorothy Guild Member Mark Eskander was among the generous donors
and presented Venezia with a check for $10,000 from the Louise Mandel
Charitable Trust. Other underwriters who offered in-kind support so the
maximum gift could be made to ASF were: Barefoot Wine & Bubbly; Billy’s
Naked Chicken for the dinner; D.J. Golden Mike and his pal Elvis Presley,
AKA Gary Anderson. Ellie Shoes provided the signature shoe awards and
Pat Kennedy led the decorating team. The Newport Beach Explorers, Spirit Judy and Ron Gold
Halloween Store and Classic Party Rentals all donated time and services.
Desserts were donated by Caroline Soaks, Diva Cakes and Everything
Bundt Cakes in Costa Mesa.
The live auction items of the night, garnering the most dollars, were dinner
and a Duffy rides at Venezia’s waterfront home with her fellow OC Register
columnist Frank Mickadeit, who will be offering up his famous Tri-tip Santa
Maria BBQ for dinner. As a bidding war ensued, Venezia and Mickadeit donated the package twice raising a total of $8000 for the charity.
ASF Board President Maria Marquez and Executive Director Phil Yaeger
and were also on hand to welcome the colorful throng. They introduced the
Dorothys’ signature Shoe Awards presentation, where donors and in-kind
supporters receive sparkling high-heeled shoes in various colors to recognize
their commitment to ASF and, in particular, the Friends of Dorothy Guild.
Founded in 1985, AIDS Services Foundation is the largest non-profit provider of care and services to people with HIV/AIDS in Orange County, helping
1,600 clients across the county. For more information www.friendsofdorothy.

THE SOCIETY PRESENTS FIESTA NAVIDAD: an annual holiday
celebration with mariachi los camperos de nati cano
The Philharmonic Society of Orange County presents Fiesta Navidad, an annual holiday tradition
featuring Grammy Award-winning
Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano
on Tuesday, December 13, 2011,
7:30pm, at Segerstrom Center for the
Arts, Renée and Henry Segerstrom
Concert Hall.
Under the direction of Nati Cano,
Mariachi Los Camperos will take audiences on a musical journey through
the various regions of Mexico with a
“mariachi-style” holiday celebration.
The night begins with the traditional
petition for lodging (La Posada),
followed by various mariachi music
selections and a sing-along of holiday
classics such as “Feliz Navidad,”
“Noche de Paz,” and many more.
Born into a family of day laborers,
Nati Cano’s love for music started
at a very young age when his father
taught him how to play thevihuela, a
guitar-like instrument, to help support
the family by performing at various
cafes and cantinas. By age 14, he
was given the opportunity to join the
Chamber Orchestra and tour the
Mexican Republic, where he grew
to understand the European roots of
Mexican music and gained a greater
appreciation of his culture. By his midtwenties, Nati Cano found himself in
Los Angeles where he founded Los
Camperos.
A traditionalist and a visionary,
Nati Cano has both mirrored and
shaped the history of mariachi music
through his leadership of Mariachi
Los Camperos, making it a fixture in
the Los Angeles area. He has taken
this street-style music and brought it
into prestigious concert halls throughout the United States.Mariachi Los
Camperos de Nati Cano blend the
older, traditional rhythms of mariachi
music with the complex harmonies
of American and Mexican popular
music, making it one of the finest
mariachi bands in the world. In its
50 years of existence, Mariachi Los
Camperos has continued to raise
the mariachi tradition to new heights,
gaining an audience of both Latino
and non-Latino admirers.
In December 2006, Nati Cano’s
contributions to the American music
landscape were recognized when
he became one of the first artists
nationwide to win a U.S. Fellowship
from United States Artists. Nati Cano
was one of only five musicians to be
named a U.S. Fellow in the inaugural year. He has also been awarded
Mexico’s coveted Sylvestre Vargas
Award for Artistic Excellence.
Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati
Cano is noted for demanding musical arrangements that highlight the
individual skills and voices of the
players. The ensemble has recorded
ten albums, including Sounds of Mariachi (1996), Fiesta Navidad (1997)
andViva el Mariachi (2003).
Segerstrom Center for the Arts,
Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, is located at 615 Town
Center Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626.

BOB BAKER’S HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR
November 12-December 31, 2011
The Bob Baker Marionette Theater continues
its 51st season with “Bob Baker’s Holiday Spectacular” playing November 12-December 31, 2011.
One of the theater’s most requested shows,
“Bob Baker’s Holiday Spectacular” has charmed
audiences for generations. Join the Wizard of
Fantasy and his side kick Demi Star as they
embark on a magical journey with a fantastical cast of over 100 exquisitely designed marionettes, celebrating everything from the eight
days of Chanukah to a trip to Santa’s Workshop.
These celebrated marionettes are presented in
Bob Baker’s now famous “In the Round” cabaret
style, with the puppeteers not only exposed to the
audience, but serving as an integral part of the
proceedings . . . and also making the audience part
of the show. “Bob Baker’s Holiday Spectacular” is
guaranteed to bring out the holiday spirit in children
of all ages. After the performance, guests are invited
to visit with the Puppeteers and have refreshments
in the Party Room.
The Bob Baker Marionette Theater in downtown Los Angeles is the oldest of its kind in the
United States and has been entertaining children
of all ages since its inception in 1960. At that
time, Bob Baker and his business partner Alton
Wood turned a scene shop in Los Angeles into
the family entertainment landmark that it is today.
Jennifer Steinhauer of The New York Times has
described Baker’s shows as “a staple of a Los Angeleno childhood. It is the cultural equivalent of the
annual march by the nation’s third graders to the
neighborhood firehouse.” On June 3, 2009, The Bob
Baker Marionette Theater was declared an historic
cultural monument by the city of Los Angeles.
Bob Baker first became interested in puppetry at the age of five, and has since become
an innovator, artist, puppet master, and topnotch animator with credits in television and film.
His marionettes have entertained thousands of
children and adults worldwide over the years. Mr.
Baker has a current inventory of over three thousand
puppets, with just about everything from robots that
light up, to dancing frogs, to egg laying chickens.
Bob began to learn the magic of puppetry at the early
age of eight. He trained with several different local
companies and put his skills to work with his first
professional performance for director Mervyn Leroy.
After graduating from Hollywood High School, he began his extensive career in animation at the George
Pal Studios. He began as an apprentice and soon
became a top animator of “Puppetoons” a year later.
After WWII, Bob began manufacturing toy marionettes
that sold both in Europe and the United States. Fifty of
the finest department stores in the country carried his
line including Bullocks Wilshire, Saks Fifth Avenue,
Niemen Marcus, FAO Schwarz, and Marshall Fields.
Bob also served as an animation advisor at many
film studios including Walt Disney. As a puppeteer
his prestigious credits include the films: “A Star Is
Born”, “G.I. Blues,” “Close Encounters of the Third
Kind”, “Escape to Witch Mountain,” and “Bedknobs
and Broomsticks”, as well as work on countless
television series and projects. Baker has performed
with the likes of Judy Garland, Elvis Presley, and
Angela Lansbury.
Aside from running the theater, Baker maintains
an active role in the company’s traveling shows. Bob
has taken his marionettes
to countless fairs, puppet
festivals, and of course,
birthday parties. The Bob
Baker Marionettes have
entertained audiences in
Las Vegas, Toronto, New
York, Germany, and have
even performed on Navy
ships and submarines.
Mr. Baker is the former
president of the Los Angeles Puppet Guild and Governor of the Television Arts
& Sciences Animation
Branch and currently sits
on the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences.
Bob’s dream of establishing a school began
with the formation of the
Academy of Puppetry
and Allied Arts, a nonprofit organization. The
Academy’s mission is to
educate the public about
puppet arts and to encourage and foster puppetry
presentations. The Academy of Puppetry provides
funding to subsidize tickets for students from local
area schools to attend
performances at the Bob
Baker Marionette Theater
and distributes literacy
and language development resources that bring the
experiences at the Theater back to the classrooms.
The Academy of Puppetry provides students and
teachers in the Los Angeles area the opportunity
to attend puppetry presentations and learn about
the integration of puppetry arts with language arts,
music, art, sculpture and crafts. The program also
fulfills the Academy of Puppetry and Allied Arts’ mis-
sion of preserving puppetry arts and creative live
entertainment for future generations of children and
adults. Bob’s goal of a refurbished theater complex
complete with training facilities is still a long way off.
However, Bob hopes that, with the aid of civic leaders
and corporate sponsors, his Academy will one day
be a reality and housed in buildings adjacent to the
historic Theater.
