Welcome Macomb Athletic Alumni
Hello and Welcome to Macomb Community College!
The Macomb Monarchs are excited to enter their 48th year as a member of the National
Junior College Athletic Association, Region XII. During the past 48 years, Macomb has
been proud to produce over 5,000 athletic alumni that have won six National Team
Championships, 43 Regional Championships, and 66 Michigan Community College
Athletic Association Championships.
Macomb College offers a well-rounded athletic program for the benefit of both the
student body and the general public. Intercollegiate competition is available in cross
country, basketball, baseball, and track and field for men; and volleyball, basketball,
track and field, and softball for women.
Brent Biebuyck
Athletic Director
The goal of the Macomb College athletic program is to produce winners on and off the
playing surface. The athletic experience provides a dynamic growth process for learning
discipline, teamwork, leadership, loyalty, cooperation, and mutual respect. The student
athletes' preparation for life is more important than win/loss records and championships.
Student athletes at Macomb realize it is both a privilege and a responsibility to participate
in our athletic program. This responsibility places the student athlete in a year-round model citizenship role
where behavior and attitude counts in and out of school. We expect our student athletes to hold themselves to
higher standards, and to serve as leaders amongst their peers. An integral part of the future of Macomb Athletics
is to create and maintain ongoing relationships with our alumni, as they are an important part of the Macomb
Monarch family.
Through the years, 191 Macomb Community College athletes have earned All-American Honors and several
hundred more have been honored by the MCCAA and Region XII. But not only do these athletes succeed during
the season, they also succeed in the classroom. For eleven consecutive years, our student athletes have had a
higher GPA than the average student population.
I personally invite each and every one of you to come out and watch us play this season. We will make you proud.
Go Monarchs!
Brent Biebuyck

Joe Santilli—Head Coach
Santilli begins his fourth season as Head Baseball Coach here at Macomb. In 2012-13, Santilli led a young
Monarch team comprised of 20 freshmen on the 27-man roster to an 8th place finish in the MCCAA. It
was a trying season all around for the Monarchs, who saw 15 games either postponed or canceled due
to inclement weather.
The previous two seasons, Santilli led Macomb to back-to-back second-place finishes in the MCCAA. In
2010-11, his maiden campaign, Santilli hit the ground running and led a freshman-laden Monarch team to
a 30-24 overall record after a trying 4-13 start, helped by an outstanding 23-7 conference record. The Monarchs finished
just one game behind Conference Champions Glen Oaks CC. This earned them a berth in the NJCAA Region XII
tournament.
In 2011-12, his second season, Santilli led the veteran Monarchs to a 37-17 record aided by a 19-7 tilt in the MCCAA
Eastern Conference. Macomb finished one game away from the NJCAA Championships, losing in the Region XII
Championship game. For their efforts, the Monarchs finished just outside of the top-20 in the final NJCAA rankings.
Santilli played in the Detroit Men's Baseball League from 1997 until 2006. Prior to playing for the Detroit MSBL, Santilli
lettered at Clintondale High School and also was a member of the Central Michigan Baseball team, earning his bachelor's
degree in 1996.
Santilli began his coaching career as an assistant at Dakota High School in Macomb before heading to St. Mary's College
of Ave Maria for four years. Santilli got his start in the NJCAA as an assistant at Henry Ford CC for one year before
being named the Head Coach in 2008.
Santilli resides in Sterling Heights with his wife, Julie, and their two children, Giovanni and Mara.

You are part of an ever-growing group of talented Macomb Community College students who have enhanced
their learning experience by participating in competitive sports. The time you've spent on the court or on the

Keep those opportunities alive and well by keeping in touch with us. We are planning several athletic alumni
activities and look forward to having you take part!
Any alumni questions should be directed to Macomb's Athletic Director, Brent Biebuyck, at biebuyckb@macomb.edu
