Here you can walk everywhere to enjoy a wide variety of museums and monuments, events and shows. Murcia is usually described as one of the Mediterranean’s Baroque capital cities: it counts on many different monuments from the 18th Century. One of the best examples is Santa María Cathedral, which is more than 600 years old and has an impressive baroque facade. Cultural visits Santa María Cathedral Real Casino in Murcia This Cathedral is tremendously beautiful and has different architectural styles, from the Renaissance facade with its bell tower, and the Puerta de los Apóstoles and the Flamboyant Gothic Vélez Chapel, to the impressive baroque facade. This building has been recently restored and is placed in Trapería street, in the centre of the city. It has a mixture of the different art styles which coexisted during the second half of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th Century. It has been declared a national historic and artistic monument, and it is considered to be a cultural asset. You shouldn’t miss the Arabic Courtyard, the Ballroom, the Ladies’ Restroom, the Tearoom or the Pool Hall. Pza. Tapas At the Region of Murcia, you will find out that heaven lies on your palate. Thanks to a wonderful climate, you will have the opportunity to have ‘tapas’ at any of its squares throughout the year. Among these squares, Plaza de San Juan and Plaza de las Flores stand out. Some musts around here are having a ‘marinera’, a ‘matrimonio’, a ‘tomate partío’ or a ‘zarangollo’. Brochure: Other options Cuisine http://drdm.es?50U76 Ecotourism at El Valle y Carrascoy Nature Park It is a natural setting, located 10 minutes away from the city centre, where you will be able to breathe clean air, enjoy an appetizer or a picnic in the middle of nature and, in addition, visit Virgen de la Fuensanta Sanctuary, an example of baroque architecture. In the same area, you can walk through the ‘cultural path’ that links two visitor centres: El Valle and San Antonio el Pobre. Murcia Tel.: +34 968 37 96 53 Festivities which Have Been Declared of Tourist Interest Holy Week There are 15 brotherhoods: fifteen associations, each one with thousands of moved processionists that turn into estantes, penitents or musicians responsible for the sound that accompanies and characterises certain parts of the processions -the long sound of the tubas, instruments that are as huge as the groans they produce. Moros y Cristianos –Moors and Christians- (September) The Moor and Christian Camps and the popular parades of their respective armies and musical groups give a historical colour to these festivities, completed with the Feria Taurina –Bullfighting Festival-. During the Feria Taurina, and thanks to the best Spanish matadors, the Condomina bullring sells out. Fiestas de Primavera –Spring FestivitiesDuring the Fiestas de Primavera, Murcia celebrates the Bando de la Huerta and the Entierro de la Sardina; both festivities have been declared to be of International Tourist Interest. In the Bando de la Huerta –Orchard Parade-, Murcian people as well as visitors, dressed with the ‘huertano’ typical costume, enjoy a festive day that comes to an end in the evening, when a great parade goes through the city’s streets. The Entierro de la Sardina –Burial of the Sardine- takes place at the end of the spring festivities. It is a spectacular parade with about twenty floats –one for each ‘agrupación sardinera’, from which hundreds of thousands of toys are thrown to the audience. This festivity finishes in the early morning, when the sardine, amidst the revelry, is burnt at Plano de San Francisco. Festivals Murcia Tres Culturas (May) SOS 4.8 (May) Murcia Tres Culturas, the International Festival for Tolerance, shows that it is possible for different peoples, having different beliefs and coming from different cultures, to live together in peace. It benefits from excellent weather conditions, soil and human resources for grapegrowing and producing quality wines. The variety of different soils and climate conditions allows the production of an extensive range of red, rosé and white wines for all tastes and palates. Three PDO wine areas stand out: Bullas, Jumilla and Yecla. The grape type which is mostly used to produce wine is Monastrell, a red variety with small, compact bunches, which is perfectly adapted to the environmental conditions in this area. Monastrell wines are deeply coloured and full-bodied and come in a very extensive, high quality range. Other varieties which are selected to produce wine are Teinturier Grenache, Cencibel, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Grenache, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot for red and rosé; in addition, Macabeo, Airen, Pedro Ximenez, Malvasia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat varieties. BULLAS PDO REGULATORY BOARD T.: +34 968 652 601 consejoregulador@vinosdebullas.es www.vinosdebullas.es If the district of Bullas is known for something, it is for its wine-growing tradition. In Bullas, wine is the ultimate expression of a town devoted to tending vines since its very origins, both defining it and filling it with pride. A traditional craft that has matured over time, lovingly nurtured by its people in the hope of a rich reward: full-bodied wines abounding in character that linger not only on the palate but also in the memory. Granted in 1994, the Bullas Protected Denomination of Origin takes in the districts of Bullas, Mula, Ricote, Cehegín, Lorca, Pliego, Caravaca, Moratalla and Calasparra. A stroll along its streets full of history or a chat with the local people will reveal how the town has been linked to the delicious fruit of the vine since the remotest of times. Eleven wineries have been registered in the Regulatory Board, which everyday works hard for these PDO wines to be well situated and renowned as they deserve at both national and international markets. With this aim, they attend the industry’s most important events and fairs with the different wines, and communicate part of their wine culture and tradition to the public. Bullas Wine Route Association is the entity in charge of the regulation, promotion and administration of ‘Bullas Wine Route’ tourist destination. It promotes the organisation of different activities so that they contribute to the development of wine tourism. ASSOCIATED ESTABLISHMENTS One of its main aims is to guarantee maintenance of quality levels in the Wine Route’s services and products. It is on the southeast of Spain, and is characterised by wide valleys and plains, marked by mountains. It is a transition area between the Mediterranean Levante coast and the Castilla-La Mancha plateau. The wine production covers two wide areas: the municipality of Jumilla, from the Region of Murcia, where the Regulatory Board has its head office, and the municipalities of Montealegre del Castillo, Fuente Álamo, Ontur, Hellín, Albatana and Tobarra, from the province of Albacete. The wines being produced in Jumilla are of exquisite quality, thanks to the diversity of grape varieties that can be found in the area, with Monastrell as the queen of them all. Jumilla is somewhere you can immerse yourself in the culture, tradition and customs of a wine-growing area with deep roots. Explore its vineyards, visit its numerous wineries and find out all about wine-making, step by step. Stay in rural surroundings, enjoy the local cuisine... And, of course, take advantage of the opportunities it offers to get to know its historical, cultural and natural heritage. As well as being famous for its wines, Jumilla is also home to many other treasures that are well worth discovering. Centuries ago, the town was famous for being a geographical and cultural crossroads and, as such, you will find historical and artistic vestiges of all the Mediterranean civilizations. It is not without reason that this is a prosperous area full of contrasts, which the Arabs called 'the beautiful'. Thanks to its monuments, museums and other visitor and cultural attractions, in 1981 the town was declared a site of historical and artistic interest. By following the Wine Route, visitors will be able to dive into Jumilla’s culture, tradition and custom. Jumilla and its Wine Route offer experiences such as walking among its vineyards, visiting a winery and finding out all about wine-making, staying in rural surroundings, enjoying a good wine and the local cuisine at a restaurant... And, of course, taking advantage of the opportunities it offers to get to know its Historical, Cultural and Natural Heritage. ASSOCIATED ESTABLISHMENTS WINERIES Bodega artesanal Viña Campanero, S.L. Its wines are pronounced and at the same time creative in character, revealing noble, complex and rich nuances in the glass. Set in the middle of the highlands, between the coastal mountain ranges and the La Mancha plateau, Yecla paints its visitors a picture of exceptional beauty, where arid stone landscapes contrast with fields of olive trees, cereals and vineyards. The different grape varieties show the personality of the land where they were grown, and offer flavours and tastes which hide the secrets of wine artists. The Yecla PDO Regulatory Board tests both the grapes and the wines produced endorsing their quality in order to ensure that every bottle offers a genuine flavour experience. This demanding mission involves the monitoring of vineyards and wineries by the qualified control board team, which also periodically analyses the wines in order to guarantee their authenticity, distinguished by the seal on the back label. The Yecla Wine Route is an entity leaded by the Yecla City Council, the Yecla PDO Regulatory Board, several local institutions and a group of members interested in the development of wine tourism, agro-industry, culture, industrial heritage, the creation of instruments for local promotion and diversification of the economic activity. ASSOCIATED ESTABLISHMENTS The Yecla Wine Route makes it possible for visitors to explore the municipality of Yecla and its tourist resources through the wine culture. Thanks to the Wine Route, visitors will discover the cultural diversity which has been developed through time in this locality: vineyards, old and new wineries, wine tasting, cuisine, selling points, natural and monumental resources, festivities… T.: +34 968 754 104 turismo@yecla.es www.rutadelvinoyecla.es WINERIES RESTAURANTS wine bars Bodega Castaño Restaurante Aurora Bar La Bodega T.: +34 968 791 115 info@bodegascastano.com www.bodegascastano.com T.: +34 968 751 215 picohermanos@terra.es www.hotelavenidayecla.com T.: +34 968 796 981 Bodega La Purísima Restaurante Señorío de Barahonda T.: +34 968 791 986 / +34 676 652 341 piscuaponiente@hotmail.com T.: +34 968 751 257 info@bodegaslapurisima.com www.bodegaslapurisima.com T.: +34 968 753 604 restaurante@barahonda.com www.barahonda.com El Viñedo Café Bar Bodegas Evine Candilejas Restaurante Tapas T.: +34 639 209 556 info@bodegasevine.com www.bodegasevine.com T.: +34 968 958 299 facampaco@hotmail.com Señorío de Barahonda T.: +34 690 845 233 / +34 626 730 360 picalastres@gmail.com T.: +34 968 718 696 info@barahonda.com www.barahonda.com Bodegas Lázaro del Corso T.: +34 968 718 489 bodegaslazarodelcorse@gmail.com Club de Tenis Sport Restaurant Restaurante Los Chispos T.: +34 968 752 064 info@restauranteloschispos.com www.restauranteloschispos.com Restaurante El Olivo de Jaén T.: +34 968 753 061 olivodejaen@hotmail.com Restaurante Pachamama T.: +34 968 794 178 asadorpachamama@hotmail.com Pecarás Sitio de Tapas T.: +34 626 730 360 / +34 968 796 318 picalastres@gmail.com Picalastrés Cosmopolitan Bar T.: +34 675 864 238 picalastres@gmail.com Restaurante Ródenas T.: +34 968 751 350 / +34 968 751 392 info@lapaz-hotel.com www.lapaz-hotel.com Bar Poniente T.: +34 626 965 284 elvinedocafe@hotmail.com Cafetería Tejota T.: +34 649 627 000 Cervecería La Caña T.: +34 635 632 883 rociofrances2003@hotmail.com ESTABLECIMIENTOS ASOCIADOS ACCOMMODATION TRAVEL AGENCIES TOURIST OFFICES Casa rural LLANO - QUINTANILLA Haya Travel Viajes Oficina de turismo de Yecla T.: +34 625 206 328 / +34 625 206 329 adelabernabeu@hotmail.com T.: +34 968 753 512 yecla@hayatravel.com www.hayatravel.com T.: +34 968 754 104 turismo@yecla.es www.yecla.es HOTEL AVENIDA * Neverland Tours T.: +34 968 751 215 / +34 968 751 216 picohermanos@terra.es www.hotelavenidayecla.com HOTEL LA PAZ * T.: +34 968 795 124 wine@neverlandtours.com www.neverlandtours.com Viayec Viajes T.: +34 968 751 350 / +34 968 751 392 info@lapaz-hotel.com www.lapaz-hotel.com T.: +34 968 752 100 / +34 968 718 032 viayec@grupostar.com www.viajesviayec.grupostar.com WINE SHOPS THEME LEISURE OFFER La Tienda de Bodegas Castaño Consejo Regulador De La D.O.
