Released on February 12, 2014 Robin Gatto - L’Ecran fantastique Christophe Gans is a kind of national treasure, a technical genius gifted with a profound belief in the language of images. Not for a single moment does Gans try to reclaim the poet’s masterpiece; rather, in a soft and gentle atmosphere reminiscent of a waking dream, he attempts to recreate its inherent magic through scenes of breathtaking, celestial beauty, the likes of which have never been seen before in a French production […] The generosity displayed by Gans blows away everything in its path, and the novelistic ambitions of Beauty and the Beast raise French filmmaking to nobler heights. Over the course of 2014, 262 films from the Pathé library were broadcast on French television channels. 25 PATHE 2014 FILMS LIVING WORKS In 2014, Pathé took part in commemoration events to mark the Centenary of WWI. WOODEN CROSSES by Raymond Bernard Wooden Crosses is a film adapted from the novel by Roland Dorgelès, inspired by the author’s personal experiences during WWI. Raymond Bernard (1891-1977) has made it a testimonial film whose realism, both visual and sound, is unprecedented. Produced by Pathé-Natan and presented on its release in 1932 as an event of national importance, the film met with resounding success. In 2014, Pathé carried out restoration works on the film returning it to its former glory. The film’s A negative, discovered in the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) archives, was digitalized and restored in 4K. The entire restoration process was entrusted to the laboratory Immagine Ritrovata in Bologne, and took 14 months to complete. This restored version was released in theaters on November 12, 2014. The film was also released for the first time on DVD and Blu-ray, winning the 2014 Syndicat de la critique’s award for Best Historical DVD/Blu-ray. We no longer felt we were simply doing our job as filmmakers, with fervor and heart, but rather, we had the impression – perhaps the slightly naïve impression – that each of us, in his own small way, was participating in something sacred, in a great work for peace. Raymond Bernard FOUR FILM CENTENNIALS Four silent short films from the Pathé library, shot in 1915 and 1916, were also restored and released on DVD. These works of fiction – For The Homeland, The Bridge of the Yser, A Wartime Christmas and The Little Toy Soldiers – were made during the WWI as part of propaganda campaigns. They were restored by Pathé, who entrusted the work to Digimage, and given new soundtracks composed by Stephen Horne. 27 PATHE 2014 CINEMAS INEM AS Pathé is one of Europe’s leading cinema companies thanks to its subsidiary Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé, totaling 995 screens in three countries, in each of which it is the market leader: France, the Netherlands and Switzerland. In terms of sporting results, at the end of 2014, the men’s team was ranked 2nd in the French National Championships, and the women’s team was the top-ranked team in their league, with the aim to win the 9th consecutive title of this competition. 47 PATHE 2014 CORPORATE GOVERNANCE* EXECUTIVE BOARD Jérôme Seydoux Co-Chairman Eduardo Malone Co-Chairman Marc Lacan Managing Director Lisa Azuelos Bruno Bonnell Dany Boon François Letaconnoux Michel Seydoux Sophie Seydoux ASSOCIATE FILM PRODUCERS Lisa Azuelos Philip Boëffard and Christophe Rossignon Dany Boon Richard Grandpierre Jacques Perrin Dimitri Rassam Paul Rassam Alain Sarde Anne-Dominique Toussaint FUNCTIONAL DEPARTMENTS Florence Fayet Finance Director Chantale Pajot Human Resources Director PATHE QUINCONCES IN LE MANS OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION France Vivien Aslanian Managing Director Romain Le Grand Managing Director Olivier Cottet-Puinel Senior Vice President, Business Affairs and Head of Legal Christine Hayet Senior Vice President, TV Sales France INTERNATIONAL SALES Muriel Sauzay Senior Vice President, International Sales PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION The United Kingdom Cameron McCracken Managing Director Lee Bye Head of Theatrical Distribution and Technical James Clarke Finance Director Pierre du Plessis Deputy Managing Director, Production Fiona McGuire Head of Physical Production Colleen Woodcock Director of Creative Affairs THEATER OPERATIONS THEATERS The Netherlands Jérôme Seydoux Chairman Jean-Pierre Decrette Development Director Lauge Nielsen Managing Director Barry de Bruin Information Technology Director Tina Elewaut Human Resources Director Daniella Koot Director of Programming Bram van den Broek Operations Director Nico Vertommen Facility Director THEATERS France Xavier Orsel Managing Director Beatriz Berian Director of Buildings and Facilities François Bertaux Operations Director Jean-Christophe Désire Information Technology Director Isabelle Dupuy General Counsel Olivier Grandjean Director of Programming Frédéric Krebs Marketing Director Marie-Luce Sensi Human Resources Director THEATERS Switzerland Thierry Hatier Managing Director Patrick Nussbaumer Information Technology Director Umberto Tedeschi Director of Programming Teodor Teodorescu Operations Director PATHE LIVE Olivier Grandjean Chairman Thierry Fontaine Managing Director DISTRIBUTION Switzerland Hélène Cardis Managing Director *May 2015 49 PATHE 2014 CONTACTS /PATHEDISTRIBUTION @PATHEFILMS @PATHEINTSALES /INSTAPATHE /PATHE Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé /LESCINEMASGAUMONTPATHE @GAUMONTPATHE /CINEMASGAUMONTPATHE Pathé Live /PATHELIVE @PATHELIVE /PATHELIVE Pathé 2, rue Lamennais 75008 Paris CINEMAS Pathé Films 2, rue Lamennais 75008 Paris www.cinemasgaumontpathe.com www.cinemapathe.com www.cinemagaumont.com Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé 2, rue Lamennais 75008 Paris FILMS The Netherlands Film distribution news in France www.pathefilms.com Pathé Live 2, rue Lamennais 75008 Paris Switzerland www.pathe.com Pathé Films France France Film distribution news on video releases www.dvdnews.fr www.boutique-pathe.com International sales and catalogue www.patheinternational.com Film distribution news in the United Kingdom www.pathe.co.uk Film distribution news in Switzerland www.pathefilms.ch www.pathe.nl www.pathe.ch The Netherlands Pathé Theatres BV Barbara Strozzilaan 388 1083 HN Amsterdam The United Kingdom Pathé Productions Ltd 6 Ramillies Street London W1F 7TY Switzerland Pathé Films AG Neugasse 6 8005 Zürich Pathé Schweiz AG Rue du Petit-Chêne 27 1003 Lausanne PATHE PLAN DE CAMPAGNE IN MARSEILLES 51 PATHE 2014 PATHE Corporate Headquarters 2, rue Lamennais 75008 Paris Tel. : +33 (0) 1 71 72 30 00 Fax : +33 (0) 1 71 72 31 00 Email : contact@pathe.com Pathé Communications Anne-Sophie Gérardin Tel. : +33 (0) 1 71 72 33 26 Les Cinémas Gaumont Pathé Communications Claudine Félix Tel. : +33 (0) 1 71 72 30 56 Design and production PHOTO CREDITS FILMS DE TOUTES NOS FORCES (THE FINISHERS): P.4: PHOTO : GUY FERRANDIS © 2014 NORD-OUEST FILMS - PATHE PRODUCTION - RHONE-ALPES CINEMA PRIDE : P.13: POSTER: YOLK © PATHE PRODUCTIONS LIMITED, BRITISH BROADCASTING CORPORATION AND THE BRITISH FILM INSTITUTE 2014.
