Al Majd Expressions Volume 3 Issue 1
THE AL MAJD EXPRESSIONS Page 1 Volume 3, Issue 1 Greetings from Al Majd International School!! In the current educational scenario, as students grow more autonomous, their pursuit of development and excellence becomes more interactive through a system comprising the learners and their chosen courses, their teachers, their peers and the environment. We at Al Majd strive to empower our learners to become engaged, responsible, productive adults sensitive to the rights and needs of others. Our school is filled with enthusiastic students willing to learn, supportive parents interested in their children's education, and a dedicated professional staff committed to providing quality education to our students. We are empowered by the unwavering trust that parents have in this institution, and in this knowledge lies our strength and inspiration. Together we are looking forward to meeting and working with you to improve our school and the positive educational experience. Mrs. Parveen Ali Principal We, the representatives of the Student Council have already begun working on establishing a proper system through which students can easily voice their concerns. We are also trying to come up with new ideas where school life would be enjoyable and beneficial to all members of the student body. I would be very grateful for your ideas, and would really appreciate your patience as we, the Council, work to creating interesting opportunities to showcase our interests and talents. As Ash Mcqueen once said, “I see a change looming on the horizon; it’s only a matter of time." I look forward to having a good year with all of you. Saad Sohail President Student Council First Issue: 2015—2016 To be honest I never expected myself to be elected as the school Captain. Initially I was reluctant to run for the post, for little did I know that all the magic happens outside our comfort zone. Do you ever get this feeling when you see something wrong and you think "why isn't somebody doing something about it?" And then you realize you're somebody. Well that's exactly the reason I signed up for presidency. If you want a change then be part of it. I am trying my best to live up to the position and to leave a good influence on the school. To quote Leonardo da Vinci: “I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do" I figured this year that my sense of worth is directly proportionate to what I learn and contribute to the school. We should know that we are the essence of what we do. Nadine Al Qarawi School Captain Interactive Counseling Session An interactive counseling session - ’Secrets to Success’ was presented by Mr. Reji Jacob, Counselor and Executive Director of AFFERM Foundation, on 30th November 2015, for students of Grades VIII to A’Levels. It was both an interesting and inspiring session where Mr. Reji Jacob discussed with students the importance of developing a positive attitude, accepting failures, enhancing social skills to build better relationships and also the importance of communication and discussing their problems with their teachers / parents. A session was also held for teachers on building and strengthening relationships and the use of effective communication both at home and work. Page 2 AL MAJD University Counselling For all of us high school students , the search for universities has commenced. An everlasting question raised by majority of us : “WHERE do I go?” or in other words : “What next?”. As IGCSE students , the possibilities are countless , making it even tougher to decide on the institute to join. So to aid us in setting a clear path for our future, our school recently welcomed university representatives from the United Kingdom , in collaboration with the British Council to encourage students to study abroad. We were honoured by the presence of representatives from the following universities and colleges: City London University Birmingham City University Alpha Omega College The counselling session was attended by students from 10th, 11th and 12th grades, who were very excited to get the opportunity to learn more about studying abroad. Indeed, the day was a grand success. The different undergraduate, PhD and masters courses offered by each university and college were presented to the students and the admission requirements, scholarships and bursaries were explained as well. Finally the interactive session left us with a much clearer picture of what it would be like to study abroad. Wishing you a bright future!! Sara Maher A1-A World Food Day The world food day is celebrated on the 10th of October every year, worldwide. At AMIS it was celebrated on the 16th of October. The world food day, is an opportunity for the Majd community to unite in an effort to help raise awareness on the global problems of hunger. On the special day, the teachers and students of the Kindergarten sections got together to prepare a variety of cuisines ranging from cup cakes to snowball candies. The tiny chefs in the making, looked extremely adorable whilst imitating their teachers in getting their goodies ready. The icing on the cake, was the presence of our Principal, Mrs. Parveen Ali who encouraged both the children and teachers on efforts taken. Past forward International Day Up coming Events: First Term Exam 20th Dec 2015 Half Yearly Holidays 10th -16th Jan 2016 ‘Variety is the spice of Life’ was the theme on International Day that was celebrated by our Kindergarten in the month of November 2015. Our tiny tots from diverse nationalities and culture came dressed in their national costumes. The day was celebrated at school together beginning with a special assembly where the students’ spoke about their countries. Students were actively involved in various activities like flag making, drawing and coloring throughout the day. A few of the students’ brought their national food which was shared among them adding, ‘spice and flavor’ to the International Day celebrations. I graduated in 2014. I was privileged to be a part of AMIS for 15 years. I am grateful to my school and my teachers for the opportunities given to me to nurture my skills. The arts and craft competition helped me to develop an interest in arts which eventually led me to The School Of Art Design and Architecture at NUST in I slamabad. I am really happy where I am and I wish everyone to believe in what they want to do and strive to make their dreams into realities. Syed Saad Shahid
