That’s why I t“ld Alihan im”“rtance “f m“dern and ”ractical educati“n. After we discussed t“gether, I asked him t“ relect his “wn free th“ughts res”ecting human rights and in line with general ethics and share what c“uld be d“ne f“r A Better Sch““l in acc“rdance with the c“nditi“ns “f the ”r“ject. Ali Umutcan Kul 9 Serkan Kaya Amasya Technical and Industrial Vocational High School / Amasya Teacher I was aware “f the c“m”etiti“n by visiting the web ”age “f METEK when METEK l“g“ “n web site the Ministry caught my attenti“n. Quickly, I t“ld my student Ali ab“ut the c“m”etiti“n and he started to get prepared. We never th“ught ab“ut the award. I was very ha””y that my student’s w“rk was c“nsidered w“rthy t“ get an award when I was actually thinking that it was already an adequate success f“r my student t“ carry “ut a w“rk which is higher than the level “f his ”eers. Ab“ve all, I was ha””iest ab“ut the j“y of my student when he heard the results. I w“uld like t“ thank every“ne wh“ enabled all this ha””iness. I took the materials related to my project from internet and sha”ed them “n c“m”uter. I th“ught I w“uld get a ”rize when I c“m”leted the ”r“ject and I am really ha””y with the ”rize I was awarded. Şaith “f my teacher and family in me lies behind my success. Hülya Helvacıoğlu Arif Nihat Asya Technical and Vocational High School for Girls / Ordu Teacher I heard ab“ut the c“m”etiti“n in an “ficial letter sent t“ “ur sch““l. We started t“ w“rk with my tw“ students wh“ were willing t“ take ”art in the c“m”etiti“n. We ch“se the best subject am“ng the “nes they ”re”ared, c“m”iled the materials necessary f“r the subject and st“red them electr“nically. I was very happy that work of the student was awarded. Especially it is a good opportunity for my student that the ”rize is a visit abr“ad. Thanks f“r everything. Neşe Kıraç and Her Teacher Hülya Helvacıoğlu 11 FIFTH PRIZE “FROM DREAM TO REALITY” Selcan Kurtal Trabzon Trade Vocational High School / Trabzon Field of Public Relations and Organization Services– 11th Grade Student I heard this c“m”etiti“n fr“m my teacher. I th“ught Why w“uldn’t I take my chances? I was excited. Pre”arati“n stage “f the ”r“ject was tiring but als“ very amusing at the same time. While I was thinking H“w I wish I win inside, I th“ught that w“uld be dificult. Tw“ “ther iends in the class t““k ”art in the c“m”etiti“n like I did. We all wanted t“ win and g“ abr“ad t“gether. While getting ”re”ared f“r this ”r“ject, my v“ice rec“rd was taken f“r the very irst time and I decided t“ bec“me a ”resenter. We were l““king f“rward t“ the date when results “f the c“m”etiti“n w“uld be ann“unced. I g“t the news fr“m my friend. I cann“t tell h“w excited I was! When I gave the news t“ my teacher, he was als“ very ha””y. When I went t“ sch““l next day, all my friends c“ngratulated me. Ex”ressi“n “n their faces was identical t“ my feelings. That day, I really felt that I bel“nged t“ that class. Belgium br“ught nice ex”eriences f“r me. I als“ had the “””“rtunity t“ evaluate my sch““l during the visit t“ Belgium. Trabzon Trade Vocational High School, Field of Public Relations and Organisation Services, Students of 11th Grade 12 Sezgin Burma Trabzon Trade Vocational High School / Trabzon Radio-Television Department Chief I saw the ”r“ject “n web site “f Dş “f V“cati“nal Educati“n and Training and had an “”ini“n in my mind. When the letter was received in the school and principal assigned me for this, I considered it was an im”“rtant “””“rtunity that sh“uldn’t be underestimated. I ann“unced the letter t“ my friends. My faith in the ”r“ject increased, just like my excitement. We deinitely believed that “ur f“rmat w“uld be in t“” ive since we wr“te ab“ut the educati“nal envir“nment in which we lived. While preparing, support of our administrators and our foundation’s students and their faith in us was really high. The wh“le class waited f“r the result and had a slee”less night. Students seeing the result inf“rmed their teachers and friends in great enthusiasm. Everyone was hugging each other and sharing this happiness. We are a bundle “f l“ve c“nsisting “f beautiful hearts. Selcan Kurtal and Her Teacher Sezgin Burma 13 TOP 10 WORKS “VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL VILLAGE PROJECT” Gülsüm Yeşilyayla Güroymak Technical and Vocational High School for Girls / Bitlis Field of Information Technologies – 11th Grade Student Meltem Teacher had hung c“m”etiti“n ann“uncements “n the ”in b“ard as she always did. I made s“me research “n internet while ”re”aring f“r my c“nce”t. I examined the buildings with different characteristics in the w“rld. Buildings in Dubai were really ab“ve my imaginati“ns and they were magniicent. I es”ecially ad“red the trans”arent building in the f“rm “f a crescent. As a v“cati“nal high school student, my aim was to gather all vocational high schools in the form of a village and ensure they all shared their ex”erience and kn“wledge. Quality “f v“cati“nal educati“n – like it was stated in the ann“uncement “f the c“m”etiti“n – c“uld be enhanced this way. Of c“urse, my next g“al was t“ win the c“m”etiti“n and g“ abr“ad. I was very ha””y and excited when I learnt that I was in t“” 10 since it was g“ing t“ be my irst time abr“ad. Güroymak Vocational and Technical High School For Girls, Field of Information Technologies, Students of 11th Grade 14 Meltem Çoban Güroymak Technical and Vocational High School for Girls / Bitlis Deputy Principal When I irst received the “ficial letter with the ann“uncement “f c“m”etiti“n, I made an ann“uncement t“ my students. A few students came t“ me t“ ask the meaning “f the w“rd c“nce”t ; şülsüm, “n the “ther hand, requested detailed inf“rmati“n “n the c“m”etiti“n and she was the “nly student bringing a ”r“duct. It l““ked like a s“und w“rk and I became her guidance teacher. Then, I guided her “n h“w t“ d“ inal t“uches and we sent her w“rk t“ the c“m”etiti“n. When t“” 5 was ann“unced, şülsüm was very sad and I was sad t“ see her u”set t““. She must have ”rayed a l“t since later “n I received a call t“ hear that irst 10 c“nce”ts w“uld attend the study visit and then n“tiied her family. I can say we were bursting with ha””iness. This was a c“m”etiti“n at nati“nal level and I was ”r“ud “f şülsüm f“r making a name “f “ur sch““l. Then, “f c“urse, wh“le sch““l heard ab“ut the success “f şülsüm and that we w“uld g“ t“ Brussels t“gether. Ş“r s“me time, they admired her envi“usly. I saw l“ts “f students wh“ seemed t“ want being in her sh“es. As an educat“r, I believe such c“m”etiti“ns have an impact of motivating students and increasing competition among them. In a competition which was launched in 2011 at nati“nal level, 5 students in “ur sch““l had w“n the 4th ”rize and this made all “f their ”eers gather themselves u” and be excited. As the sch““l administrati“n, we had “bserved a signiicant increase in the number “f students ”laced in universities in the year these students entered Transiti“n t“ Higher Educati“n Examinati“n. I believe this success will create a similar im”act “n şülsüm’s friends t““. I think these results will increase faith “f y“ung hearts wh“ are shy, afraid “f breaking their shells, lack c“urage t“ believe in their success in es”ecially Eastern Anat“lia. Ş“r this reas“n, I w“uld like t“ thank “ur şeneral Direct“rate which “rganized this c“m”etiti“n. Gülsüm Yeşilyayla and Her Teacher Meltem Çoban 15 “LEARNING THROUGH ART” Duygu Bodur Espiye 75th Year Multi Program High School / Giresun Field of Child Development and Education – 12th Grade Student My Child Devel“”ment and Educati“n teacher intr“duced METEK Pr“ject t“ me. I was really excited t“ be able t“ share my views thr“ugh such a ”r“ject and describe my dream ab“ut a better sch““l as a v“cati“nal high sch““l student. I had fun while ”re”aring this ”r“ject; I br“ught f“rward different ideas; had the “””“rtunity t“ ex”ress myself and I was m“tivated with the su””“rt “f my c“unsell“r. I was incredibly ha””y when they called me t“ ann“unce the result. My dreams and “”ini“ns were valued. What is m“re, I was als“ given the chance t“ attend a study visit abr“ad with my teacher. I w“uld like t“ thank the Ministry “f Nati“nal Educati“n, METEK Pr“ject and every“ne exerting eff“rts t“ ”re”are this ”r“ject and giving us the chance t“ share “ur dreams. As a v“cati“nal high sch““l student, I’m ”r“ud and h“n“ured t“ be a daughter “f this c“untry. Duygu Bodur 16 Yasemin Demirkaya Espiye 75th Year Multi Program High School / Giresun Child Development and Education Teacher When we heard ab“ut the c“m”etiti“n under METEK Pr“ject, we were very ha””y that we w“uld be able t“ ex”ress “urselves and share “ur “”ini“ns ab“ut A Better Sch““l since a better sch““l can “nly be achieved by building “n “”ini“ns and dreams “f “ur students. Such ”r“jects that are im”lemented t“ increase quality “f v“cati“nal educati“n, create a qualiied lab“ur f“rce and train “”en-minded and skilled em”l“yees will always be useful. It is very useful that beautiful children “f my country taking part in the competition from pilot provinces are given the chance to attend a study visit in different countries with us, their teachers. This is a remarkable ”r“ject in that it ensures that “ur teachers and students get t“ kn“w different cultures, t“”-ranking students and teachers fr“m different ”r“vinces s“cialize with each “ther; v“cati“nal educati“n is ”“inted “ut; business w“rld and students are gathered and negative ”ers”ective “n v“cati“nal educati“n and training is eliminated with the success “f “ur students. As a Child Devel“”ment and Educati“n Teacher, I w“uld like t“ thank f“r ”“inting “ut t“ v“cati“nal educati“n and training and ”r“visi“n “f su””“rt with this c“m”etiti“n. H“”e every sch““l in my c“untry will be a l“t better… Duygu Bodur and Her Teacher Yasemin Demirkaya 17 “AGRICULTURAL VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL WITH ITS UNIQUE ARTCHITECTURE” Esra Kır Agricultural Anatolian Vocational High School and Agricultural Vocational High School / Samsun Field of Animal Health – 11th Grade Student I was inf“rmed ab“ut the c“m”etiti“n by “ur c““rdinat“r teacher Ya ar ahin. I was very excited and f“r the irst time, I had the “””“rtunity t“ turn my dreams, ideas and th“ughts int“ reality instead “f having them just in my dreams. I was g“ing t“ d“ s“mething ab“ut my sch““l. During every w“rk I was carrying “ut and everywhere I went, I was thinking what can I d“, h“w can it be? When I heard that we were in t“” 10, I had a feeling which is very hard t“ describe and I was ha””y and excited. Pride “f being successful and g“ing abr“ad…I still cann“t believe it! Yaşar Şahin Agricultural Anatolian Vocational High School and Agricultural Vocational High School / Samsun Animal Health Teacher I was inf“rmed ab“ut the c“m”etiti“n when “ur sch““l ”rinci”al n“tiied me ab“ut the ann“uncement “n web site “f şeneral Direct“rate “f V“cati“nal Educati“n and Training. Our sch““l “f 47 years was n“ l“nger ”hysically suficient. We were already dreaming ab“ut a new and better sch““l. This ”r“ject was a big “””“rtunity f“r use t“ realize “ur dreams. We are very ha””y that “ur w“rk which started with this feeling and excitement was in t“” 10. Being invited t“ a study visit abr“ad as a result “f the c“m”etiti“n made us really ha””y. Esra Kır and Her Teacher Yaşar Şahin 18 “MY HISTORICAL SCHOOL” Merve Alparslan Bekir Yazgan-Yaşar Çilsal Anatolian Health Vocational High School / Kayseri Nursing Department – 11th Grade Student “I received information on the project from school administration. I had some opinions in my mind ab“ut the subject “f the ”r“ject. I clariied the ”r“ject further by taking “”ini“ns “f my teachers and friends at school. I completed my charcoal drawing for the project and made my application after inalizing the w“rk. I was very ha””y when I learnt that I was in t“” 10 and w“uld g“ Belgium while I was waiting f“r the results in excitement. Actually, the m“st im”“rtant thing f“r me is that I felt my eff“rt was valued. Adem Gülhan Bekir Yazgan-Yaşar Çilsal Anatolian Health Vocational High School / Kayseri Deputy Principal Princi”al had read inf“rmati“n ab“ut the ”r“ject “n a news”a”er. Then, he shared his views “n the ”r“ject with us. We said Merve Al”arslan wh“se charc“al drawing skills are g““d c“uld make an a””licati“n if she als“ acce”ted it. When Merve acce”ted this, we received “”ini“ns “f irst “ur sch““l principal Mustafa Kutlu and then other teachers and students on what kind of a school they dreamed. Our student w“rked in the light “f “”ini“ns disc“vered. It was a g““d w“rk. I was very ha””y when I heard the result. It was an achievement b“th f“r “ur sch““l and “ur student t“ sh“w her skills and in return f“r this, we b“th w“n a tri” t“ Eur“”e that we c“uldn’t even dream “f bef“re. Merve Alparslan and Her Teacher Adem Gülhan 19 “REVIVE THE SCHOOL IN YOUR DREAMS” Büşra Önder Zübeyde Hanım Technical and Vocational High School for Girls / Tokat Field of Graphics and Photography – 12th Grade Student “I started my high school education in a general high school in Tokat- where I live. My grades were bad and I re”eated the class. I was “riented t“wards v“cati“nal high sch““l by my relatives. şra”hics and ”h“t“gra”hy was the ield I was m“st interested in am“ng the ields in “ur sch““l and I ”referred it. I have increased my success since 10th grade by receiving certiicate “f high achievement and appreciation continuously. I really like carrying out creative works and produce things and this makes my family happy too. This made me understand how important and advantageous vocational high schools are for students who cannot make good use of their educational life. I was very happy when I learnt that I was one of topranking students in this competition. It is a source of pride for me to get such a rank in Turkey. I would like t“ take ”art in ”r“fessi“nal and internati“nal w“rks by c“ntinuing t“ d“ similar w“rks in future. Büşra Önder and Her Classmates 20 Nurgül Şafak Kılıç Zübeyde Hanım Technical and Vocational High School for Girls / Tokat Department Chief of Graphics and Photography As a v“cati“nal teacher wh“ c“m”leted her high sch““l educati“n in v“cati“nal high sch““l f“r girls and undergraduate education in faculty of vocational education, meaning and implementation of the results “f My Perfect Sch““l C“m”etiti“n is really im”“rtant f“r me. I ”re”ared by students f“r this c“m”etiti“n since I knew that it w“uld “”en u” new h“riz“ns in v“cati“nal educati“n. My students started their designs with enthusiasm after they learnt the subject. Different “”ini“ns were ”r“duced, c“llage w“rks were d“ne “n c“m”uter and sh“rt ilms were sh“t. I was ”r“ud “f my students since they had creative ideas ab“ut the future “f v“cati“nal educati“n. When we learnt that we were entitled t“ win a ”rize in the c“m”etiti“n, my students and I were very ha””y. We started t“ be sh“wn as an exam”le by sch““l administrati“n all the time and this enc“uraged other teachers and students in the department to participate in competitions. In conclusion, I hope vocational education which aims to prepare a successful path to occupation for young people and educate qualiied em”l“yees f“r the ec“n“my will have m“re quality and all designs “f the students c“nsidered within the framew“rk “f the c“m”etiti“n are ”ut int“ ”ractice.
