Headteacher’s Message
Welcome to this week’s newsletter. It has been
an incredibly busy half term. The children have
worked very hard and had some exciting
experiences. They all deserve a break!
Well done to Year 2 children for working so hard
on their SATs this week.
The Year 3 children looked amazing today
dressed up for their Roman Day.
Well done to all of the children who received
sports medals and certificates in assembly
today.
After half term we will be introducing Values
Badges that will be awarded in Friday assembly.
Children can be nominated for a Values badge if
they demonstrate a particular value. The aim will
be to collect all of the badges by the time they
reach Year 6 and to receive the star badge.

We will not be accepting cash in the office at
Priory after Friday 27th May. We have tried to be
flexible regarding this for parents, but cash is
reaching a level that is not sustainable and also
not in line with our cashless policy. You will be
able to make payment for services by:
 Paying on line (request an activation letter
from the office in order to do this, we can help
you with this if necessary).
 Call the school and we can take a telephone
payment using your bank card
 Request a barcoded letter to pay in cash at a
PayPoint store for trips
 Request a PayPoint card to pay for school
lunches at a PayPoint store in cash minimum payment £10

Sainsbury’s Active Vouchers
Last call for Sainsbury’s active vouchers! Please
check your bags/purses/wallets to see if you
have any more to bring in. We will be doing our
final count on 17th June, so do please send any
vouchers in before then. Our total so far is
14,200. Thanks to all the parents who have
supported this fundraiser, it will help the school
enormously.

They each receive a cash prize to be collected from the office
We would like to remind parents that we are a
nut free school and that children should not have
any nut ingredients in their lunch boxes – this
includes peanut butter and chocolate spread
with nuts in. This is for the safety of children
and staff with nut allergies who can react even to
tiny traces of peanut or nut dust in the air, or to
peanut or nut residue on a lunch table. In the
worst-case scenario, these reactions can be lifethreatening.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

PE News
Young Writers competition
On Tuesday the athletics team participated in the
Sainsbury’s School Games Athletics competition
at Langley Grammar. Please see below for a
report from Simran Tiwana.
We are delighted to announce that some of our
Year 5 and 6 children’s writing has been selected
to be published in a book called Ancient
Adventures. Recently, the children entered the
Young Writers’ national writing competition with
mini sagas that were inspired by history – from
dinosaurs and Romans, to Victorians, pirates
and everything in-between!

selected. Letters have been sent to individuals
asking permission to publish the writing and
those that agree will be included in the book
which is due to be published at the end of
August.
Meeting regarding Halal implementation
Athletics Competition Sainsbury’s School
Games
On Tuesday 24th of May, the Athletics team
went to a competition held at Langley Grammar
School. We arrived at 12:15pm and were told our
groups: girls 2 and boys 2. First, the girls started
with howler throw and then moved onto the very
tiring 600m long distance run. We had to
remember that it was our personal best and we
had to try our hardest. Afterwards the girls went
on to standing long jump and finally the 75m
sprint. The boys started with the standing long
jump and then went onto sprints. Next was the
howler throw and finally the long distance run.
We all tried our best and didn’t mind whether or
not we won. Mr. Molland wanted us to enjoy the
competition and be the best we can be.
The boys and girls points were added together
to create the overall score. We only received the
boys’ score as the girls’ score wasn’t recorded
properly. Out of 18 schools Priory came 10th in
the competition which was a fantastic
achievement for us. We would like to thank the
school for this amazing opportunity.

The meeting that was scheduled for June 6th has
been postponed due to lack of registered interest
and is now going to be held on Monday, July
11th at 4pm in the school hall. We do hope that
those who registered an interest in the school
providing halal meat will be able to attend. We
will be unable to hold the meeting if we do not
receive a sufficient response. If you would like
to attend, please email Nicky Whitaker using
office@prioryschool.com in order to reserve a
place. It will be a chance to meet with Shabaz
Mohammed, CEO of Pelican Consortium, who is
supporting us through the implementation
process and have the opportunity to ask any
questions. We will be informing parents of the
details and background of the butchers who will
be supplying the school.

Resource News
OR2 have been learning about volcanos. We
made our very own dinosaurs and ‘land before
time’, complete with a volcano and waterfall.
Today we made our volcano erupt!

OR3 have been looking at life cycles as part of
their science lessons this term. To end the
project, we have enjoyed meeting the chicks that
have hatched from their eggs. In literacy we
have been writing recipes after cooking
scrambled egg. All the children loved tasting it!

Year 4 visit the British Museum
Year 3 Roman Day
This term Year 4 have been learning about the
ancient Egyptians and, to develop our learning,
we went on a trip to the British Museum in
London.
Optimistically, Mr Bond wanted to leave school
no later than 8:45am and so, in true school trip
style, we were on our way at 9:10am. Arriving at
the museum, the children were immediately
excited by the amount of pigeons gathering
outside the museum. However, this excitement
was overtaken by the
impressive facade of
the building, we felt
very
important
walking up the main
steps to the museum.
Once inside, we split
off into smaller groups so that we could go and
explore the treasures. A particular favourite was
the sculpture exhibit which was filled with
gigantic stone pharaohs and sarcophagi. The
hieroglyphic carvings covering many of the
figures captured the interest of the children who
couldn’t believe that they were still so clear after
thousands of years. On our way out, we noticed
a papyrus in a glass case that had a cursive
hieroglyphic font; “They would definitely have
been given a handwriting pen,” commented
Year 4. Equally impressive was the mummy
gallery. This was filled with coffins containing
mummies still wrapped in their bandages as well
as several skeletons. The children were
particularly interested by the mummified animals
such as an ibis bird, a crocodile and even a
baboon.
The children were sad to leave and so the coach
on the way back was considerably quieter, it had
been a tiring but very enjoyable day. The Year 4
teachers are very impressed and pleased with
how well
the
children all
behaved.

Today Year 3 had a Roman Day, to consolidate
our learning about the Romans this half term.
The children took part in a battle formation, a
roman feast and made lots of exciting roman
artefacts.
They all looked fantastic too, thank you to
everyone that supported us.
