DIAGNOSTICS We offer and have access to full diagnostic services including: • Digital radiography • Ultrasonography • Endoscopy for disease diagnosis and surgical sexing. • Comprehensive in-house laboratory to assist in making a rapid and specific diagnosis (eg Psittacosis testing), which allows us to have results within an hour so as to optimise prognosis. ANAESTHESIA As you are aware exotic species require specialised equipment (precise pressure cycle ventilators) and facilities in order to safely anaesthetise and monitor exotic species during their surgery. We routinely use sevoflurane to anaesthetise all species, this enables a smoother and more rapid induction, and recovery; greatly reducing the anaesthetic time and this ultimately reduces the risk to these delicate creatures. LASER MICROSURGERY We are fortunate to be one of the few practices in the UK to offer laser surgery to our exotic patients. Bloods vessels of up to 2mm in diameter may be incised in the absence of any haemorrhage. The main advantages are the reduction of oedema, postoperative swelling, lateral damage, reduced healing times and less postoperative pain, enabling more extensive surgeries to be performed. Such as; orchidectomy and choanal opening in avian species. Coeliotomy, ovariectomy, salpingectomy / salpingotomy, fibriscess / abscess / neoplasm resection, haemostasis and lesion ablation in Chelonia and other reptiles. HOSPITALISATION Hospitalisation and medical treatment facilities include thermostatically controlled vivaria, full spectrum (including UV) lights, nebulisation and dietary provision appropriate to the species treated - all in a minimal stress environment.
