Medical Assistant, OA/CPP Coordinator, Residential Coordinator, Safety and Security Advisor, Counselor, CTT Instructor (Facilities), Bulldog Chatter– page 1 Residential Advisor, ACT/OCT Coordinator Irvin Williams Executive Chef/Owner of NOLA Catering held a meeting with the Culinary Arts and Business Office Administration Trade students. During the meeting Mr. Williams spoke to the students on proper work ethics, employability skills and employment do’s and don’ts on a job from an employer’s point-to-hire. Walgreens held a flu shot clinic on October 19, 2016 at the KJCC Wellness Center. Flu shots were provided to students and staff by Pharmacist, Mindy Watson. Ms. Watson was joined by the Walgreens Store Manager, Crickett Currin, and her Assistant Manager, Karen McDonald. Walgreens provided free flu shots to anyone that did not have insurance. The Center’s Nursing Trade students took advantage of this opportunity by obtaining their flu shot; which is required for them to enter into clinicals. Bulldog Chatter– page 2 Using the new national theme "Careers Begin Here", Women Empowered Network's (WEN) Raleigh-Durham Team held a Career Fair/Admissions Event on October 20, 2016 at the Tillery Place NCWorks location. Kittrell Job Corps Center partnered with the WEN to prepare students for the event by hosting a “Dress for Success” session, hosting mock interviews and preregistering students with NCWorks. Students from the NC Civilian Conservation Centers were also in attendance. The guest speaker for the event was Eric Haddock, an Acquisition Specialist with NCWorks. Students were also given portfolios to put their resume's and cover letters in as well as Hot Jobs listings, labor market overview and STAR jobs. A wide range of jobs were represented such as construction, security, manufacturing, health occupations, office administration, technology, culinary and transportation. Students left the event with information about various positions available within the employers that attended. Bulldog Chatter– page 3 October 17, 2016, In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Kittrell Job Corps Center hosted a Balloon Release Ceremony to honor those affected by breast cancer. Pink balloons were flying in the sky to attract attention to breast cancer awareness, survivors and the lives lost. The ceremony was held at the center’s flag pole during the students afternoon break. Prior to the balloon release, the Medical Administrative Assistant students provided the opportunity for both students and staff to write a personal message on the balloons acknowledging their lost. October 18, 2016 students distributed ribbons corsages and breast cancer awareness stickers to center students and staff. Prior to coming to Kittrell Ms. Terry was employed at the Warren County Correction Institution. Ms. Terry looks forward to working with the staff and students to secure their safety. Mr. McKinnon meets two new students from the Victory Dorm during the new students welcome breakfast. They had an opportunity to welcome one another. Bulldog Chatter– page 5 Please join Kittrell Job Corps Center to welcome Anthony McKinnon, Victory Dorm Counselor. Mr. McKinnon joined the Kittrell team on October 17, 2016. He holds a Bachelor Arts Degree in Social Psychology. Mr. McKinnon has 10 plus years of experience in Counseling and working with youth. He has worked as a Youth Program Assistant at The Murdoch Center and at Beyond Challenges as a Qualified Professional. Mr. McKinnon is married, has four girls and lives in Creedmoor, NC. He looks forward to working with the staff and preparing students for successful careers. He completed the Culinary Arts trade with ServSafe Certification. Kortney is relocating to Connecticut where is has obtained full time employment. Daisha Wilkerson Daisha enrolled at KJCC in November 2015. She completed the Nurse Assistant trade with a primary certification and will be attending Central Piedmont Community College in January 2017. Nekia Platt Nekia completed the Office Assistant Program after enrolling at KJCC in February 2016. She has obtained full time employment and will be enrolling in college to begin in January 2017.
