Recycling ——–————————-——————-————————–———–———-——— Wes Hamilton
Recycling has become more popular as the concern for the environment has
grown. Recently the Indianapolis Recycling Program has made a change that replaces the small red recycling totes it previously used with much larger blue and
gold cans. These containers hold quite a bit more recycling and reduce the amount
of recycling that is blown out and into the street. This program is offered through
the city and Republic Waste Services at a modest cost. See the Sustain Indy website at http://www.sustainindy.org/curbside-recycling.cfm for more information.
If you prefer to avoid the service fee for having your recycling picked up, but would
still like to recycle, there are several “drop-off” locations where you can take the
items yourself. A list of locations can be found at http://www.sustainindy.org/
drop-off-locations.cfm. The nearest location to our neighborhood is Sahm Park,
6801 E. 91st St. The container is located in the farthest back parking lot.

Haunted House ——–————————-——————-———————–-—–——————— 9503 Falkirk
As you may have already noticed, one house in our neighborhood goes all out for Halloween. The house at 9503 Falkirk Drive has
been set up for a haunted house this year. Shane and Anna Fisher, who live at the house all year round, enjoy Halloween so
much, they decided they want to set up their own haunted house. So was born Falkirk Fearscape. They are using this opportunity
to help others as well. They will be collecting non-perishable food items for Gleaners Food Bank and cash donations for the Hamilton County Humane Society. Tour of their display is free.
Check them out on the web at www.wix.com/Batman917/Falkirk-Fearscape.

Financial Report —————–————————————--————–——————- Katyann DiSalvo
As of October 12th, we have received dues from 202 homeowners. Thank you
to each one of you! We have also received an extra $880.00 from 26 homeowners. Thanks to all of you, we have offset our very snowy winter expenses. As
you can see below, we were over budget for snow removal by $1,500.00.
Thankfully, we were also over budget in the dues we have received. This is
great news especially in the current economy. We have worked very hard to
keep our expenses down so that we can end the year in the positive. Thank you
for helping to make that happen! For a more detailed report, please visit our
website at www.geistlanding.net.

2010 Fall Festival GLNA Block Party —————————————––———— Wes Hamilton
The 2010 GLNA Block Party held on Saturday, September 25, 2010, was a great success. Once again, we had the very popular
Rock Wall supplied by Climb Time Towers. There was plenty of food including corndogs, snow cones, and caramel apples. Meijer donated a $50 gift card which was used to purchase food and supplies and Marsh donated a $25 gift card that was used to
purchase food. Donato’s donated an assortment of pizzas and United Artists Galaxy Theaters donated three huge bags of popcorn. We also had balloon animals, button making, an assortment of games, and science and astronomy exhibit. We even had a
small bouncy house for our littlest guests. Thank you to all the volunteers and neighbors along Applehorn Way. We could not be
successful without you! Soon I will post all the pictures from the party on the website.

2010 Yard of the Month Winners and Nominees ——–————————— Linda Sillery
The GLNA board members once again want to
acknowledge our neighbors who received
nominations for Yard of the Month. During
the spring to late summer, one residence was
given the award each month. This is in appreciation of those property owners who are able
to spend the extra time and effort to increase
the aesthetic value of our neighborhood. We
all benefit from their work.
Late in the summer of this year we increased
our monthly awards to three so that more
home owners could be acknowledged. Winners are not to be repeated within a three year
time period, so some of the yards that were
well tended were not eligible.
