This year’s MHCA Annual Convention
and Tradeshow held at the Pearl River
Resort in Choctaw, Mississippi was a
wonderful triumph for the Association!
Its success was made possible due to
the hard work of our outstanding
volunteers and attendance of the over
330 convention registrants and the
230 vendor representatives.
MHCA
staff would like to issue a special word
of thanks to David Flippin for once
again managing the convention golf
tournament! David’s hard work
organizing and implementing the
tournament at the Dancing Rabbit Golf
Course made this year’s tournament
one of the best to date.

session was kicked off with a
presentation by speaker Clint Maun.
Wednesday break out sessions were
led by Lou Burgess and Robin Bleier,
and before the Business Session on
Thursday, McCumber, Inclan, Daniels,
Valdez, Buntz & Ferrera, P.A. provided
a mock trial to educate administrators
on nursing home lawsuits. Lastly,
during the business session, special
recognition and plaques were given to
each administrator in the membership
who had been licensed for over 20
years, over 25 years and over 30
years and to each nurse who had been
a DON for 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 years.

care during his tenure made him a
worthy recipient of this award.

year’s convention!
On June 29, 2006, I gladly accepted the
nomination as President of the Mississippi
Heath Care Association. Those of you who
know me, understand that I have a
profound passion for the residents of long
term care facilities and the long term care
profession.
In 1996, I sat in the back corner of the
Grand Casino, and listened to a gentleman
stand where I stand today and speak
about his PASSION for our profession and
how much it meant to serve each of us.
And after hearing him speak and seeing
the emotion and pride that he had for the
association, I knew I to wanted do my
part one day in serving our association in
any way I could.
This association has been growing
stronger and stronger each year with the
support and efforts of each of you. This
year, Katrina, as we all know, hit our state
hard, but the teamwork and caring came
out in all of us. We had nurses and
facility staff staying in the facilities
affected taking care of residents, not even
knowing if their own homes and families
were ok.
They are truly remarkable
stewards of our profession.
My goal or promise to each of you as your
President is to continue what we have
started with our association in leading the
way in Quality of Care and Quality of Life
for those that we serve and to work with
your board and each of you to continue to
move our profession forward.

A brief hold will be placed on Medicare payments for all
claims during the last 9 days of the Federal fiscal year
(September 22 through September 30, 2006). These
payment delays are mandated by section 5203 of the Deficit
Reduction Act of 2005. No interest will be accrued and no
late penalties will be paid to an entity or individual by reason
of this one-time hold on payments. All claims held during this
time will be paid on October 2, 2006.
This policy only applies to claims subject to payment. It does
not apply to full denials, no-pay claims, and other non-claim
payments such as periodic interim payments, home health
requests for anticipated payments, and cost report
settlements.

National Provider Identifiers (NPIs) will be required on
electronic claims sent on and after May 23, 2007. Every
