Business owner Wilson Lacy, president of BJL Construction, gave the opening remarks and the invocation. “We gathered to share information about the Fayetteville Regional Airport Expansion project with the underserved population in and around Fayetteville; there is a $30 million project they can be apart of,” Wilson Lacy said. BJL Construction partnered with Gordon Johnson, AIA. to help disseminate information to the underutilized population (DBE) who often discover contract bids and other assigned job opportunities long after the deadline has passed. “For that reason, we contact businesses well ahead of time by phone, email, direct mail, and informative publications, and through advertisements.” Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE)? What is the Disabled Business Enterprise (DBE) Program? The DBE program pertains to contracts for projects funded in any way by the US government and/or the NC DOT. The United States Department of Commerce DBE is defined as a business with at least 51 percent ownership and/or controlled by minority group members or women. A DBE is genuine ‘only’ if the groups of minorities or female ownership interests are real and ongoing…not created solely to meet DBE percentage goals. In addition, to fulfill the purpose of participation, the DBE must itself perform work or services or provide supplies under contract and not act as a mere conduit. In short, the contractual relationship must be bona fide. For purposes of the DBE Program, minority group members are Women, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Pacific Rim Asian Americans and American Indians. Recipients are primarily state highway, transit, and airport agencies that receive funds subject to Title 49 Code of Federal Regulations part 26 (49 CFR 26). The U.S. Department of Transportation’s DBE (disadvantaged business enterprise) program offers a means to increase participation in state and local procurement. In addition to establishing goals, state and local recipients also certify the eligibility of DBE firms to participate in DOT-assisted projects. To be certified as a DBE, a firm must be a small business owned and controlled by 51% socially and economically disadvantaged individuals. This is confirmed through (Photo JJ Jones) Back Row (L to R) Cleo Patrice Robinson, Eric Stumph, Wilson Lacy , Gordon Johnson & Toney Colemen Sitttng -Floyd Shorter on-site visits, personal interviews, reviews of licenses, equipment, work completed, resume of principal owners and financial capacity. “Many times, those who are unaware of how to take advantage of the available resources, we provide them with the website that offers the guidelines on how to become certified. If there is any reason they need further clarification, we assist them by meeting with them; if the numbers are great, we even hold seminars so they can gain a clearer understanding of what they need to become certified. “We help those in the construction business, (and vendors as well). This is great for the city, Cumberland County and surrounding areas,” said Wilson Lacy. In December, there is a follow up session that will be more detailed overview of the upcoming Fayetteville Regional Airport Expansion project. “DBEs will be notified of the exact date.” Further assistance and information can be obtained through the Fayetteville Business and Professional League, (877) 368-4968, and through the BJL Construction Company, (910) 988-1707. Today! What does today mean to you…? Today is a new day. This day is my world made new. I give thanks for it. I have lived all my life up to this very moment, just to come to this day. This moment… this day… is as good as any moment in all eternity. I shall make of this day… each moment of this day… a heaven on earth. This is my day of opportunity. I am aware that every good act of mine today moves on forever, that it has eternal significance. My smile cheered someone today, and since that person was cheered, he in turn cheered another and that one passed it on. Thousands will eventually feel the results of that smile. So, make someone smile today. I am thankful for every good thing I do; Generations to come will unconsciously feel the influence of my actions of today. Today, I have more experience to draw from than ever before in my life. I also have more mental strength for I have a better understanding of myself. For this I give thanks. I am never bitter, only better. Never has there been another with my mind, my heart, my eyes, ears, hands or mouth. None that came before, or none that live today, can walk, talk, move and think exactly like me. I am different and a unique creature for this day and time. You made me that way and I thank you for it. Today it’s time truth speaks. God is the health of his people. He is the infinite life. According to your faith, he is the Omnipresent of Johnny Robinson Fayetteville, NC - Senior Distributor, Dudley Products (910) 574-7035 the One Life. Last year today, on January 31st 2013, the Doctors at Cape Fear Hospital (Cancer Treatment Center of America) declared me Cancer Free. Today, one year later; thanks to the transforming and conviction that God is all goodness and everywhere present, I am free indeed of Cancer. In him are all health, strength, wisdom, and harmony; as his child all these become mine by recognition of the truth that God is all. I believe that good experiences are my Divine Right. I trust him and the Immutable Laws of God; I have no resistance against the past, nor do I fear the future. This is a good day; One in which great good can come to me. I expect it. I accept it and give many thanks for it. For, greater is he, within me. Since I am using the infinite Creative Laws to create better rather than struggle to take from someone else, I feel at peace, knowing that I am fulfilling my mission for today. Each step I take affords me a glorious vision of magnificent achievement. Having the right attitude not only change your life, but changes your world as well. “Oh creator of all things, help me. For this day I go out into the world naked and alone and without your hand to guide me, I will wander far from the path which leads to success and happiness. I asked not for gold or garments or even opportunities equal to my ability; instead, guide me so that I may acquire abilities equal to my opportunities. You have taught the Lion and the Eagle how to hunt and prosper with teeth and claw. Teach me how to hunt with words and prosper with love so that I may be a lion among men and an eagle in the marketplace. Help me to remain humble through obstacles and failures; yet hide not from mine eyes the prize that will come with victory. Assign me the tasks today which others have failed; yet guide me to pluck the seed of success from their failures. Spare me sufficient days to reach my goals: yet help me to live this day as though it be my last.” _OG MANDINO Hail To This Day: let me become all that you planned for me when my seed was planted and selected by you to sprout in the vineyards of the world. Verily, there must be a special place for me. Guide me. Help me. Please show me your way! Contact me and let’s talk about what you’re Today means to you. This Day Is Life’s Magnificent Gift To Me. While it repairs itself at night, during the day it works hard fending off environmental aggressors and oxidative stress. By evening, skin shows signs of age, fatigue, lines and dullness. In response, the chemistst Kiehl’s Since 1851 created a new facial oil that awakens, revitalizes and energizes fatigued skin so it looks and feels as fresh at the end of the day as it did at the beginning. Kiehl’s Daily Reviving Concentrate is designed to support the skin’s natural defenses by mirroring the way the skin defends itself. The chemists specifically selected a highly concentrated blend of 100 percent natural origin ingredients including gingerroot essential oil for UV ray protection, sunflower seed botanical oil to increase skin hydration, and tamanu oil to lock moisture in.
