October 2008 The Fayetteville Press Newspaper Page 3b Shop Talk Beauty News Change By Johnny Robinson “If a great change is to be made in human affairs, the minds of men (and women) will be fitted to it; the general opinions and feelings will be drawn that way. Every fear and hope will be forwarded to it; and they who persist in opposing this mighty current will appear to resist the decree of Providence itself, than the mere designs of men. They will not be so much resolute and firm as perverse and obstinate.” –Edmund Burke Day in and day out, this constant pounding of negative thoughts, ideas and conditioning were forced into me through my daily interactions with people from all walks of life. However, some of these actions were well intended. They simply did not want me to get hurt, by expecting more than they thought I deserved or was entitled. They felt (and I too sometimes,) that it is far better to be safe than to be sorry or disappointed in future actions. Whatever thoughts you’re thinking will attract to you similar thoughts in nature. If you think success thoughts, affirm them, and cling to them although you’re in an apparent defeating situation, you will attract to you, powerful inspiring thoughts that can lift you over your difficult situations to your blessings. The Law of Attraction says, “Unto him that hath shall be given, and from him that hath not, shall be taken away even that which he hath.” Think success thoughts and thousands of invisible forces will flock to your aid. Think failure, and an innumerable number of forces will help make it complete. To the average person a thought is an airy insignificance—a mere flash of consciousness- it comes, it goes, and there it ends. But the Law of Attraction (mental change) says, look around and all that you see is the result of thought. (Everything exists in the unseen before it is manifested in the seen.) I’m reminded of a story, I heard sometime ago of an Indian brave that found the egg of an eagle. Not being able to reach the nest of an eagle, he decided to put it in the nest of a prairie chicken. The hen sat on this egg alone with her eggs, not knowing or caring anything of the change, until all of the eggs hatched. All his life, thinking he was a prairie chicken, the eagle did just what all the other prairie chickens did; he scratched in the dirt for insects and seeds for food; he clucked and cackled; he flew in brief thrashing motions of his feathers, no more than a few feet above the ground and not very far at a time. After all, that’s how prairie chickens are supposed to fly. Years passed and the eagle grew very old. One day he looked up and saw a magnificent bird soaring in the sky. “Why! What Dreamweaver Johnny Robinson Fayetteville, NC Senior Distributor, Dudley Products (910) 574-7035 a beautiful bird, what is it?” He asked one of the older prairie chickens. “Oh, that’s an eagle, the chief of the birds,” was the reply, “but, don’t you give it a second thought; you can never be like him.” So the eagle never gave it another thought and died convinced he was a prairie chicken. How sad, born to soar into the heavens, made to be the chief among the birds— to settle for being just a prairie chicken, grubbing worms, scratching around in the dirt. In this day and time it’s easy to live like a prairie chicken. It’s okay because everybody else is doing it. I’m better off than he or she is; prairie chicken lifestyle, grubbing worms, scratching in the dirt. Flashing and fluttering about trying to make meaning out of my frustrations, when I know and I can see this bird flying above me and yelling, you can do it, you can do it, you can make it happen, when all around me - my friends, my relatives, and my associates are all saying don’t even bother, you’re just a prairie chicken. But I say unto you, mental changes can shift no’s to yes’s and denials to affirmations. The mind always acts- and it acts on our most predominant thoughts. Have you noticed, the longer you choose to think about something that you should be doing, the harder it is to do it? The longer you put off doing something that you should do, the more difficult it becomes to start. We can avoid much frustration and unhappiness if we’ll just choose to start doing what we know that we should do. Na tur all y! Just think about that each ant has a job to do and gives it his best. What would our communities reflect if each was giving it our best without a supervisor telling you what and how to do it? “A man only begins to be a man when he ceases to search for the hidden justice which regulates his life. And as he adapts his mind to that regulation factor, he ceases to accuse others as the cause of his conditions, and builds himself up in strong and noble thoughts; ceases to kick against circumstances, but begins to use them as aids to his more rapid progress and as a means of discovering the hidden powers and possibilities within himself.” -James Allen Mr. Allen was right. Thoughts are things and powerful things at that. When mixed with a definite purpose, persistence and a burning desire for its translations into the rewards of its objectives. The things that we think of most of the time become the things of reality. Remember, when circumstances bring disillusions, depression or discouragement knocking at your mental door; simply say these words, I expect something extraordinary to happen to me today. I expect it, I accept it, and I give thanks for it (keep repeating it.) The law still works and you can’t stop it from working! It will bring to you according to your most dominant desires. Both of our Presidential candidates are speaking of making changes. As we reach the final days of this campaign, it is my fondest wish that something special- the right to choose to be self inspired, to hold ourselves accountable, to choose to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem, the right to choose, to choose, to choose- has occurred in each of our lives. I sincerely hope that we have been helped in a number of positive ways to understand the value of finishing what you start and doing what we say. The way we approach our choices and our daily expectations should now be different. There is a magnificent bird soaring above; I can see it and I can hear it. Now is the time for choice. The choices we make determine the changes we get. “Sometimes we become enthusiastically engaged in building a beautiful bridge to the future, while other times we seem preoccupied with holding on to potholes from the past.” As long as we live, we’ll have to make choices. The greatest power that we have is the power to choose. Do I stay with the prairie chickens or fly with the eagles? What ever your choice “Don’t get upset just VOTE,” and vote early.
