February - Prairie Trails Public Library
FEBRUARY, 2015
A PRIZE WINNER EACH DAY!
JOIN IN THE FUN!
This February join us in celebrating the role that your public library plays as
‘the heart of the community’. We are hosting a MONTH LONG CONTEST
with DAILY WINNERS – everyone is eligible to participate! Here is how it will
work….
For every 5 items a patron checks out at our circulation desk….two things will
occur….
They will receive a ‘DUCK OF THE WEEK’ again, for every 5 items/single circ
They also will receive a free ticket opportunity for a DAILY RAFFLE of a gift
certificate to use at a local restaurant within the City of Burbank.
At the end of each business day, a ticket will be drawn from that day’s entries; and the winner will be called.
All prizes will be placed in a container. When the winner returns to the library to claim their reward they will
then have an opportunity to draw their prize from the container. In total the library will provide 24 prizes/
winning opportunities.
Prairie Trails Public Library District (PTPLD) has begun its 46th year of service to the communities of Burbank
and Nottingham Park. This contest is our way of thanking each of you for your show of support in making us
‘the heart of the community’.
U.S. President J. Carter Display
Ricardo A. Fernandez and his wife developed an extensive friendship with former
President Jimmy Carter. As their relationship developed over the years, Mr. Fernandez began to accumulate items related to President and Mrs. Carter that
amassed into a collection. The library
wishes to thank Mr. and Mrs. Fernandez
for displaying a portion of their collection
during January at Prairie Trails for our patrons to see first hand. Photographs, autographed items, political cartoons, Habitat for Humanity items, political pins and
many more items were on display.

Along the Prairie Path…..
I reached a milestone this January of having served the Prairie Trails Public Library District for 25 years as its Director. During
those years there have been hundreds of thousands of checked-out materials, hundreds of thousands of reference questions
answered, hundreds of thousands of materials purchased for patron use, thousands of programs for youngsters and adults,
visiting celebrities like Chicago Bears’ players Dan Jiggets and Gary Fencik, the first Trump Apprentice – Bill Rancic, Governor
Quinn and Gold Star family members, numerous authors, magicians, acrobats and performers. Support has been in abundance
from Stickney Township and Supervisor Viverito, the City of Burbank and Mayor Klein and City Council members, the Burbank
Park District, local schools, the Burbank Art League and numerous organizations. Forty years of my professional life has been
dedicated to intellectual freedom and providing information to the public. I continue to enjoy serving with the Board of Trustees and staff in providing library services to our patrons. Thank you for your continued support of our library as I begin my
25th year of service as its Director.
