It finished sixth at the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2009, losing
in the rankings play-off to the West Indies.
Recorded victories over Sri Lanka - its first-ever victory in 19
attempts - and the West Indies at that event in Australia.
The 2009 tournament was only the second time Pakistan
had played at an ICC Women’s World Cup - its only previous
appearance was in 1997 when it lost every game that it played.
Lost all of its matches at the ICC World Twenty20 2009,
putting in a series of disappointing performances, including
scoring just 60 all out against England.
The side is captained by Sana Mir, who was appointed skipper
in May 2009.

Bismah Maroof became the second Pakistan player to score a
Twenty20 International half-century, when she made 50 not
out against Sri Lanka at Taunton in 2009.
India (8 May)
Pakistan made just 75 all out against India at the ICC World
Twenty20 2009, following on from the ICC Women’s World Cup
2009 when it made 57 all out against the same opposition.
New Zealand (10 May)
Nain Abidi made a brilliant half century against New Zealand
when the sides met at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2009.

Took her first three-wicket haul in her ODI career against India in
December 2006. Player of the Tournament at the ICC Women’s World Cup

Enjoys watching movies and playing different sports.
Appointed Pakistan captain in May 2009.
Armaan Khan
DOB: 04/04/80 Born: Karachi
Batting/Bowling Style: RHB/WK
Impressed with 43 not out against the West Indies at the ICC Women’s
World Cup 2009. Had a disappointing ICC World Twenty20 2009, making
just two runs in the two matches that she played. Inspired to play the
game after watching Adam Gilchrist. She is also a taekwando coach.
Asmavia Iqbal
DOB: 01/01/88 Born: Multan
Batting/Bowling Style: RHB/RFM
Has become a regular member of the Pakistan side, opening the
bowling attack. Also a powerful striker of the ball and one of the few
Pakistan players capable of hitting the ball over the top. Has been
compared by her former captain, Urooj Mumtaz, to Shoaib Akhtar, who
is one of Asmavia’s favourite players. Other heroes include Brett Lee
and Andrew Flintoff. Enjoys listening to music.

Batting/Bowling style: RHB/WK
Pakistan’s wicket-keeper is one of the side’s most experienced players
- she is the second most capped player in her country’s history. Had a
disappointing 2009 with the bat, with a top score of one run at the ICC
Women’s World Cup and a highest score of eight not out at the ICC World
Twenty20 2009. Once took six dismissals in a match against the West
Indies in 2004. Her favourite cricketer is Adam Gilchrist. She enjoys
listening to music and reading in her spare time.
Bismah Maroof
DOB: 18/70/92 Born: Lahore
Batting/Bowling Style: LHB
Only Pakistan player to register a half-century at the ICC World
Twenty20 2009. Has represented Asia in the Afro-Asia Cup.
Adam Gilchrist is her cricketing hero and she pretends to be him
when she plays her beloved computer games. Loves dancing in the
gym in her spare time.
Javeria Wadood

Batting/Bowling Style: RHB/OB
A talented spinner, she once took 6-8 in the Women’s Asia Cup
against Bangladesh. Leading wicket-taker at the ICC World Twenty20
2009 for Pakistan, capturing three wickets. Her favourite player is
AB De Villiers, as she admires his fielding and batting. Her hobbies
include listening to music and using the internet.
Nain Abidi
DOB: 23/05/85 Born: Karachi
Batting/Bowling Style: RHB
A supremely confident opening batter, she will be relied upon for runs at
the top of the order. Scored a brilliant half-century against New Zealand at
the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2009. Appointed vice-captain ahead of the
ICC World Twenty20 2009. Had a disappointing tournament in England in
2009, scoring just 27 runs in her three innings. She was inspired to take
up the sport after watching Jonty Rhodes.

three matches at the ICC World Twenty20 2009, taking two wickets.

Made her debut at the age of just 12 years of age. Most capped
ODI player in the history of Pakistan’s women’s cricket. Once took
7-4 against Japan in Amsterdam in 2003. Took the decisive wicket
that sealed Pakistan’s qualification in 2008 to the ICC Women’s World
Cup, taking 3-14 in the game against the Netherlands. She enjoys
singing, even when she is batting!

Plays domestic cricket for Faisalabad. Took two wickets on her ODI
debut against Ireland. Favourite cricketer is Daniel Vettori, although
Imran Khan was her hero growing up. Enjoys playing badminton and
spending time with friends.
Urooj Mumtaz Khan

Batting/Bowling Style: RHB/LB
Captained Pakistan to qualification at the ICC Women’s World Cup
Qualifier in February 2008. Took a hat-trick at that qualifying event against
Zimbabwe, forming an integral part of Pakistan’s strong spin attack.
Lost the captaincy at the end of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2009.
She is a qualified dentist, just like her parents. Hobbies include deep
sea fishing and her dream is to swim with sharks.
