The subject identified as Randall Mielcarek of Green Bay had traveled to his cabin on Babcock Rd. after making these comments. Forest County Deputies were able to confirm that Mielcarek's vehicle was at the cabin and the Forest County Special Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.) was dispatched to that location. Upon approaching the residence the team discovered Mielcarek deceased in the rear of his truck. Further investigation revealed that Mielcarek had taken his own life prior to the arrival of the officers. The second violent call came in at 8:25 p.m. in which a female had contacted a friend telling her that her husband had a gun and had fired shots in the residence. The friend contacted the Sheriff's Office and reported the information to them. Forest County Deputies along with Marinette County Deputies responded to the area of Dallman Road in the Town of Armstrong Creek. After a short time, Forest County Officials were able to make telephone contact with the suspect, Forrest S. Schaller, and negotiated a peaceful exit of the residence and Schaller was taken into custody. Once Schaller was in custody, Deputies entered the house and found the female victim and a minor child to be safe. Further investigation, revealed a confrontation that had occurred in which Schaller had pointed the gun at the female and fired a shot within the residence. Forest County Investigators are continuing the investigation. Schaller is currently being held in the Forest County Jail on Attempted 1st Degree Homicide charges as well as other Domestic Abuse related charges. 100 Mile Snow Safari Trail Dedications The 100 Mile Snow Safari has started to annually dedicate two-mile portions of the trail to people who were instrumental in the development of the 100 Mile trail system and are now deceased. This year we have memorialized Don Kilbury and Dirk Van Duzee. Shown below are Carie and Marge Kilbury and John Aschenbrenner. Also shown are Mona Van Duzee and Roger Mattern, as they accept the signs. John is the President of the Club and Roger is a groomer driver for the Wabeno area of the trail. Two signs will be placed at each end of the twomile stretch on each portion of the trail. The signs for Don Kilbury will be placed near the Lake Lucerne boat landing and Star Lake Road. The signs for Dirk Van Duzee will be placed near Ada Lake. Letter from Larry The Logroller Photo submitted by Jeff Kralovetz Larry is resting comfortably in his room By Boyd Monte By now, everyone that lives in the Northwoods, or has visited, have learned about Larry the Logroller in Wabeno. The Pioneer Express recently received a letter from Larry. He asked us to print it so that all the citizens of Forest County will be informed of his progress. Dear Citizens of Forest County, As you already know, I was in a logging accident this past January, I was fortunate that we have the best rescue squads around as they wasted no time in loading me up and getting me to the doctor. Since I am a rather large person, I had to go south to see a specialist. I was told that “Doctor” Ron Piontek, was the best fiberglass surgeon around. I immediately set up an appointment to see him and get a clear picture of what was a head of me. “Doctor Ron” informed me that I suffered a sprained neck, broken collar bone, dislocated my knee and sprains in both my ankles. Continued on pg 3 Single Stream Recycling has come to Forest County The Forest County Recycling Office has announced that residents using Eagle Waste's recycling containers will no longer have to keep recyclable items separated. As of February 1st, all recyclables can be comingled in the containers provided by the county's program at each township's recycling center. No longer will residents have to go down the row of containers and separate the cans from the plastic from the cardboard. All recyclable items, minus the bag you brought them in, can be deposited in one container. Residents must still follow the cleaning and preparation directions as before, but the work of separation is gone. Every item recycled is one less that has to be hauled to the landfill. Save your township money and recycle. It's much easier now. Chamber Announces Photo Contest Winner SokaogonAChippewa donate flying squirrel enjoys a $10,000 to meal Humane Society at a bird feeder The Sokaogon Chippewa Community has generously donated $10,000 to the City of Crandon to be given exclusively to the Forest County Humane Society. He will be holding a Town Hall Meeting at Water’s Edge, Lake Lucerne, at 11:00 a.m. This is short notice, and many of you won't have this paper in time, but for those who do, it is your chance to make your voice heard to your congressman. Forest County Sheriff's Department website The Forest County Sheriff's Department now has a website and it is up and running. The site is a great tool for the public to access information, events, and other resources in an effort to keep our community safe. To access the website, visit www.forestcountysheriff.org COMMUNITY BILLBOARD Cont. from pg. 1 NIFTY, NIFTY, LOOK WHO'S FIFTY!! A little boy was born on February 12, 1963, He brightened the home of the DuFour Family. He was a chubby little guy, sort of wild and rough, But cute like a baby tiger, and just about as tough. They searched for a name that would show how much he meant, They thought and they thought, and their best choice was "Trent". Now, Gary, his dad, was Trent's special friend, Who taught his son everything from learning to talk, to knowing how to defend. Trent grew so quick and so fast, And the first thing you knew, he was a man at last. He graduated in '81 from good old Crandon High, Setting his many goals way up to the sky. He worked very hard with different woods he bought, He built and remodeled houses for anyone who sought. The most important role in his life, was to become a military sergeant, regardless of the strife. He accomplished this, and much more in many a way, So if you see this man, be sure to wish him a HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY. This special man would be our own, Trent DuFour, A sergeant from the United states Marine Corp. All our Love, Col. Ron calmed my nerves by informing me, “ Don’t worry lad, I have seen much worse in my days and I am 100% sure that we will have you feeling like new very soon.” The operation was long, but I awoke without feeling any pain. I even got my own room! I was worried that there would not be a place big enough to keep me, but, the good doctor, had a place all set up by the time I woke. I would have enjoyed cable t.v. though. I have a new neck, shoulder and knees. My waist is still a little bruised and I will need a minor operation to fix that, I will also have to have my boots resoled, but that will be done at a later date. “Doctor” Ron and his staff have treated me with the best possible care and recovery should be complete this spring. I am eager to resume my post and seeing all of the residents of Wabeno and the guests that visit the town. Sincerely, Larry the Logroller PIONEER EXPRESS PAGE 3, FEBRUARY 11, 2013 Area Events Fish Registration Ends at 4 p.m. For more information, call 275-3881 BONUS RAFFLE: Jiffy Ice Auger & 275-4610 MarCum Fish Flasher • Tickets $5 each Come Join the Fun, Food & Games Raffle Drawing & Awards at 4:30 p.m. Thank Yous & Personals "SEMPER FI" HAPPY BIRTHDAY SGT. Madison Phone Lines Interrupted Voicemail Operating Madison … Representative Jeff Mursau (R–Crivitz) has been notified that State Capitol telephone service was interrupted on Monday when nearby lines were damaged. “Service may not be regained for as long as three weeks, but citizens need to know they can still reach me,” Mursau said. “When people call, they will hear a ring, but I won’t hear it. Rest assured though, that I can still remotely retrieve my voicemail and I encourage people to leave a message and I’ll call them back as soon as I can.” Capitol technology is still working, though, and Mursau continues to receive Email and Internet communication. “As soon as the lines are restored, I’ll make sure to notify local media outlets so they can pass on the information to their viewers, listeners, and readers.” Put that Tax Refund to good use from now until April 15th All in-stock carpet, vinyl, laminate and remnants will be 20% off and all Special Orders will be 10% off. Winners from each class in grades three through eight faced off trying to spell a variety of words from the 2013 National Spelling Bee list. While Aidan battled some stiff competition, he edged them out for a victory and will travel to Wausaukee School District on Monday, February 11, to compete against other district winners. From there, the winner of that contest will travel to Madison to compete at the state level. Good luck, Aidan, and congratulations to all of the competitors. Give Us A Call Today! 715-478-2009 The ArtsPower National Touring Theatre will present the story of Laura Ingalls Wilder, America’s most beloved young pioneer. The musical, geared to children in grades 2 through 6, will take place Saturday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. in the Nicolet College Theatre. Tickets are $5 for children and $7 for adults, and are available in advance at nicoletlive.com. In song and dance, Laura Ingalls Wilder tells the exciting story of young, tomboyish Laura as she and her family travel into the unsettled frontier of the late-1800s American Midwest, in search of a place they can call home. Children will feel the suspense and wonder of the perilous journey in which the Ingalls face the challenges of Indian attacks, disease, and devastating crop losses. Powered by their devotion to one another and an unwavering pioneering spirit, the Ingalls overcome all obstacles. Family bonds may be tested, but they are never broken. “ArtsPower does a wonderful job bringing literature and history to life for children,” said Nicolet Theatre Director Jim Nuttall. “Mom and Dad as well as the kids will appreciate the energy, musical talent, and the uplifting message about family love that ArtsPower delivers in telling the story of Laura Ingalls Wilder.” The 55-minute show features a lush musical score with five original songs, including the memorable Move On, which captures the restlessness and excitement of loading up the covered wagon, and Fishin’, a duet in which Laura and Pa laugh and share tall tales at their favorite fishing hole. For more information or to purchase tickets online, visit nicoletlive.com. Tickets also may be purchased by calling the box office at (715) 365-4646.
