Learn to type with the Famous Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing program. July 11, 6-7pm Word 2013 Basics. Create the Table of Contents, insering index, adding captions. July 12, 3-4:30pm Excel-2013—Basics I. Learn the basics of Excel: the start screen, backstage view, Quick Access toolbar, the Ribbon, multiple types of cursors and what they are used for, worksheets and more. July 12, 6-7:30pm Word 2013 Advanced. Mass mailing using Word (the Mail Merge Ribbon). July 13, 3-4:30pm Excel 2013—Basics II. This is a continuation of Excel Basics I. July 18, 6-7:30pm PowerPoint 2013 Basics. Create and animate your slideshow. Save it as a Video file. Then take it home with you. You need to bring a memory stick to this class. July 19, 6-7:30pm Outlook 2013 Basics. Using Outlook and basic e-mail operations. July 20, 6-7:30pm Internet Basics. What is the Internet? What do I need to access the Internet? Review how to type in web addresses. Search the Internet and more. July 21, 3-4:30pm PowerPoint 2013 Basics. Learn the basics of PowerPoint. The start screen, backstage view, quick access toolbar, the Ribbon, creating a presentation, saving, slide basics, notes and more. July 25, 3-4:30pm Word 2013—Basics I. Learn the basics of Word: create a document, save, cut, copy, paste, using templates and more. July 26, 3-4:30pm Word 2013—Basics II. This is a continuation of Word 2013 Basics I. July 26, 6-7:30pm Excel 2013 Basics. The Function library, working with formulas in Excel. July 29, 9:30– 11am Keyboarding. Learn to type with the Famous Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing program. For further information about the content of the classes, call 856-453-2210, ext.107. Classes are held on the first floor of the library which is handicapped accessible via a ramp with railing at the main entrance to the library. Coming to the Luciano Theatre at the Guaracini Performing Arts Center in Vineland on September 18 is an exciting educational performance for families, Sonic Evolution, by the well-known musical ensemble Cello Fury! The Library is happy to once again be hosting performances by the talented actor/scholars from American Historical Theatre! Coming to the Library on Saturday, August 27 at 2pm will be the program Madame C.J. Walker: A Self Made Woman, an hourlong, one-person play about the remarkable life of the famous entrepreneur, starring Dr. Daisy Century (pictured at right). Coming to the Library on Saturday, October 1 at 2pm will be Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton: Conflict and the Constitution, an hour-long two-person play (our first ever from AHT!) dramatizing the conflicting ideas of two of our Founding Fathers, starring Steve Edenbo (pictured at far left) as Jefferson and Eben Kuhns (pictured at near left) as Hamilton. Funding has been made possible in part by the New Jersey Historical Commission/Department of State, and the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders through the Cumberland County Cultural & Heritage Commission. Coming to the Library this November: The Epistle of Resiliency Travelling Haitian Children’s Art Exhibit! The exhibit will be in the gallery and exhibit case all November, and there will be an opening reception on Saturday, November 5 at 2pm. 5 On Purple Tie Dye Night, the Cumberland County Library’s Children’s Club celebrated the birthday of the recording artist Prince. They learned the art of tie-dyeing and different techniques for creating designs with purple fabric dye. Join the Cumberland County Library Li’l Listeners Club on Wednesdays for Story Time, 10:30-11:30am at the library. Each story read counts towards 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, a program for young readers. Call Miss Christina to inquire and register for the program at 856453-2210 x110. 6 The Cumberland County Anti-Bullying Youth Poetry Slam Showcase was a success! The group dedicated their performances in loving memory of Amy Joyner Francis who lost her life due to bullying. The performers did a great job reading the poems they wrote. Each performer made their voices heard with confidence in saying “no” to bullying. A musical performance was shared by Naomi Jones. Thank you to Bogart’s Bookstore and Café in Millville for welcoming our group and hosting us! The Cumberland County Library youth celebrated dads for Fathers Day weekend by creating a 3D wooden car. They learned how to create a 3D design, and in the afternoon they read to real heroes, our veterans. 7 On Wednesday, June 29, the Cumberland County Li’l Listeners Club read stories and learned about the first flag! They colored a Betsy Ross Flag picture to celebrate the Fourth of July! Here, from left to right, Lissy, Sinai, and Julian show off their pictures. On Wednesday, June 8, the Cumberland County Li’l Listeners had fun with reading and painting. Ms. Christina read This Book Just Ate My Dog! by Richard Byrne and the children enjoyed the picture book Flora and the Peacocks by Molly Idle.
