tomakeourPlantSaleagreatsuccess.Fromthosewho

donatedplants.WedidnotselloutandtheremainingplantswillbedonatedtotheAllanBrooks
NatureReserveplantsale.
Iwouldliketohearfrommemberswhohavesuggestionsforimprovementsfornextyearor

photosynthesis.Invariegatedleaves,thecellsthataregeneticallyunabletoproducethispigment
appearwhite:somepigmentsinthemutatedcellscanproducepinkoryellow.Theseinteresting
andattractiveplantsareprizedbymostgardenersandhighlycultivatedbynurseries.Avariegated
plantwillgrowmoreslowlybecauseofitsreducedabilitytoproducefoodenergy.

Theyalsohoverandflybackwards.Theseinsect-devouringhuntersshould
beawelcomesightinanygarden,consuminggnats,midges,beetles,moths,

Composting:JanetStollgavepointersinmakingcompost.Briefly,keepthecompostinasunny
area,addsoiltocompostingmaterial.turnitoftentoaerateit,addcrushedeggshells,addwater
andnitrogenfertilizer,havemorethanonegoingatthesametime,useassoonasitlooks‘ready’.If
addinggrassclippings,mixwithsoiltopreventclumping.Agoodruleisalternategreenwith
brown.MasonBeeHouses-Buildthemtoencouragemorebeestoyourgarden.
