Our Mission
Benefit Program
To support, give comfort and ease the burden for parents carrying
and caring for seriously ill newborns.
Michael’s Feat fulfills its mission through three separate benefit programs:
In addition, the fund seeks to educate and raise awareness about
chromosome disorders, specifically Trisomy 13 and other serious
illnesses that affect newborns.
About Michael’s Feat
In his loving memory, the MICHAEL GERARD PUHARIC MEMORIAL
FUND, INC. is established to support and give comfort to parents
carrying, delivering, and caring for seriously ill newborns. When a
parent is told that their newborn is ill, it becomes difficult to worry
about material items, and that’s where Michael’s Feat intends
to help. Donations collected are used to purchase and supply
Neo-Natal Intensive Care Units at community hospitals, as well as
support individual families in Monmouth County
What the Fund Provides
Overnight Bags Stuffed with Supplies
Material Items, such as Furniture and Medical Equipment
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)/Special Care Nursery Program.
A Michael’s Feat hospital liaison responds directly to the needs of family and
staff at the NICU. When a family in need, carrying and caring for a
seriously ill newborn, is identified by this NICU liaison member, they
are asked to complete a request form. The Michael’s Feat Board then
determines the appropriate financial, material or other support needs.
Overnight Bags Program. Under the supervision of a Michael’s Feat
Board member, families who have infants admitted to any of the
Monmouth County NICUs receive a free canvas “overnight” bag stocked
with toothbrushes, shampoo, socks, razors, prepaid calling cards, disposable camera, a homemade baby blanket and other “creature comforts.” In
line with the mission of Michael’s Feat, this program enables parents to
spend more time with their ill newborns and not worry about shopping for
personal hygiene items. The program is available at many local hospitals.
Michael’s Feat has delivered hundreds of bags to local families in need.
Michael’s Feat Rooms. Improving the quality of life is a major goal of
Michael’s Feat. Towards that end, thanks to the fundraising efforts of the
Amerigo Vespucci Society, Michael’s Feat was able to establish the FAMILY
RESOURCE CENTER ROOM for parents with seriously ill newborns in the
NICU at Monmouth Medical Center. The room includes a resource
library, computer with email access and tools to create care pages, a play
area for the siblings, periodicals, snacks and coffee machine. All of this
designed to provide families with a “living room” away from home.
Michael’s Feat Family Rooms offer the comforts of home
in a hospital setting
On September 26, 2012, Michael’s Feat opened its second family room at
CENTRASTATE MEDICAL CENTER outside of their Special Care Nursery.
Soft furniture, war m wood flooring, decorative molding and granite countertops set the scene for a relaxing environment for parents caring for their
sick babies. Parents at CENTRASTATE can now take a break, have a meal and
regroup in the Family Room and still be within an earshot of their baby.
In 12 years, Michael’s Feat has provided numerous benefits to local
Monmouth and Ocean County families.
Giving families that are going through one of the most, if not THE most,
stressful times of their life a place to regroup and relax, is something that
Michael’s Feat feels very strongly about as an organization.

MICHAEL’S FEAT ROOMS
at Monmouth Medical Center and
CentraState Medical Center
MONMOUTH MEDICAL CENTER
The purpose of the Michael’s Feat
Resource Room is to provide a dedicated
space for the families and friends of the
babies in the NICU. The room is not only an
ideal waiting room — because of the proximity
to the unit — but it also offers much more!
The space has been carefully designed to
function as a “living room” away from home,
providing the comforts of home to the
families while they spend so much time in
the hospital.
Inside the room, families will find:
Soft seating options • Refrigerator
Dining table • Private bathroom
Computer access • Children’s toys
Coffee service • Flat screen TV
The décor of the room is reminiscent of
beach dunes on a sunny day. The goal is that
the cheery and warm feeling will help ease
the stresses of the parents with seriously ill
newborns and provide an escape from the
intense atmosphere of the NICU.
One prominent feature of the Resource
Room is the beautiful 8’x 5’ mural on which
butterflies are placed to honor or remember
the babies that hold a special place in the
hearts of many. Engraved butterflies can be
purchased from Michael’s Feat. The profits from
the sale will be reinvested into the Michael’s
Feat Resource Room.
The room is open 24 hours a day ~ 7 days a
week. Parents can access the room using a
security code provided by their nurse. The
room is equipped with a sleeper sofa that
can be used as needed.
Michael’s Feat would like to thank all of the
generous donors that helped make this
room possible. Special thanks to the Amerigo
Vespucci Society of Long Branch for their
fundraising efforts and generous donations
that were instrumental in making the project
a reality.
CENTRASTATE MEDICAL CENTER
On September 26, 2012, Michael’s Feat opened
its second family room at CENTRASTATE MEDICAL
CENTER outside of their Special Care Nursery.

molding and granite countertops set the scene

Giving families that are going through one of
the most, if not THE most, stressful times of
their life a place to regroup and relax, is
something that Michael’s Feat feels very
strongly about as an organization.
